The Shatuo Turks played a pivotal role in late Tang and Five Dynasties China. However, similar to other Turkic groups, the genetic history and population origins of the Shatuo remain poorly understood. This study presents a genomic investigation of a Shatuo leader through the analysis of ancient DNA from Li Keyong(856 CE–908 CE),founder of the Later Tang dynasty, providing an opportunity to elucidate the genetic composition and origins of this pivotal group.Through comprehensive population genetic analyses, including PCA,ADMIXTURE analysis,f-statistics,and qpAdm modeling,we found that Li Keyong had a nearly balanced admixture, with 53.4%Ancient Northeast Asian and 46.6%Western Steppe ancestry.Additionally,he carried a Western Eurasian paternal lineage(R1a1a1b2∼AM01870)and an Eastern Steppe maternal lineage(C4a1a+195).This genetic profile contrasts sharply with the predominantly Northeast Asian ancestry observed in the Ashina royal clan, highlighting significant genetic heterogeneity within Turkic confederations. Our results suggest that the Shatuo emerged from complex cross-Eurasian interactions, consistent with the hypothesis of a multi-ethnic origin. 展开更多

The Qinghai-Xizang Plateau imposes severe environmental pressures that have driven extensive adaptive responses in both humans and animals.Among the domestic species that underpin high-altitude pastoral livelihoods, goats are of particular importance, yet their historical origins remain poorly resolved. In this study, ancient genomic data were generated from five goat remains recovered from the Lake Qinghai Basin and dated to approximately 3600 years ago. After stringent authentication and filtering, three individuals with genomic coverages ranging from 0.152×to 1.45×were retained for subsequent population genetic analysis. These data revealed a close genetic affinity between ancient goats from the Lake Qinghai Basin and goat populations from West Eurasia. In contrast, most present-day Chinese goats predominantly carried ancestry related to Neolithic Iran.Notably, modern Dazu black goats(Capra hircus)were found to derive primarily from a lineage closely related to the ancient Lake Qinghai Basin goats, indicating marked genetic continuity across time.In addition, modern Alpas cashmere goats and Qinghai-Xizang goats carried approximately 4%–8%ancestry from the Lake Qinghai Basin-related lineage.Collectively, these findings refine current understanding of early herd management on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau and provide new insight into the genetic history and population formation of Chinese goats. 展开更多

This study focuses on the protection and revitalization utilization of linear cultural heritage, selecting the Qi’ao Ancient Road in Southern China as a typical case study,a cultural route with both historical depth and practical significance. The paper first systematically reviews four theoretical foundations:“cultural route”,“cultural heritageelics”,“structural functionality and space”,and“e-commerce new media marketing”,constructing an integrated“function-culture-space”analytical framework.Guided by this framework, the research establishes the investigation path with the Ming and Qing Dynasties as the temporal scope and the Southern and Eastern Main Routes of the Qi’ao Ancient Road as the spatial scope. It comprehensively employs literature research, field surveys, and Geographic Information System(GIS)analysis methods to systematically screen and analyze the value of tangible and intangible cultural relics along the ancient road. The study shows that the Qi’ao Ancient Road was not only a vital land transportation artery between Guangdong and Macao during the Ming and Qing Dynasties and an important overland link for the Maritime Silk Road, but also a witness to the integration of Chinese and Western cultures, the spread of ideas, and social transformations. In response to the current state of its protection and utilization, this paper innovatively proposes an integrated e-commerce new media marketing strategy centered on the“Online Three-in-One”(cross-border e-commerce platforms, independent websites, overseas social media)and“Offline Six-in-One”(museums/cultural centers, culturalourism bureaus, scenic areas, universitiesesearch institutions, enterprises, and intangible cultural heritage experience shops). This strategy aims to transform and disseminate the value of the ancient road’s cultural relics through modernized, marketized, and experiential means, thereby providing a path reference with both theoretical foresight and practical operability for achieving holistic protection, sustainable utilization, and methodological innovation in linear cultural heritage. 展开更多

The Yunnan Provincial Museum has collected typical artifacts unearthed from tombs dating back to the“ancient Dian State”period. In particular, bronzes inlaid with gold and jade have attracted much attention for their shape, materials, techniques, aesthetics and cultural functions.Stone-jeweled bronze buckles with unique styles and exquisite craftmanship have become one of the most distinctive objects in this period. This study identifies the composition of green inlay fragments detached from a circular bronze buckle from Shizhaishan Tomb M13∶62 by laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy(LA-ICP-OES)and documents surface micro-features by super-depth-of-field microscopy. The results demonstrate that the inlay material is libethenite[Cu_2(PO_4)(OH)],a copper phosphate hydroxide previously misidentified as turquoise or malachite.Through technological archaeology,we can restore the Mosaic process, assess the technical level of metal refining technology at that time, and conduct a detailed cultural interaction through the material's source, development, and evolution. The technological, aesthetic, and cultural implications of these findings are discussed, emphasizing the role of stone-jeweled buckles as elite insignia. This research underscores the importance of scientific analysis in correcting visually based misidentifications and contributes to the archaeogeographical study of early gem utilization in southwestern China. 展开更多

The analysis of ancient genomics provides opportunities to explore human population history across both temporal and geographic dimensions(Haak et al.,2015;Wang et al.,2021,2024)to enhance the accessibility and utility of these ancient genomic datasets,a range of databases and advanced statistical models have been developed, including the Allen Ancient DNA Resource(AADR)(Mallick et al.,2024)and AdmixTools(Patterson et al.,2012).While upstream processes such as sequencing and raw data processing have been streamlined by resources like the AADR,the downstream analysis of these datasets-encompassing population genetics inference and spatiotemporal interpretation-remains a significant challenge. The AADR provides a unified collection of published ancient DNA(aDNA)data, yet its file-based format and reliance on command-line tools, such as those in Admix-Tools(Patterson et al.,2012),require advanced computational expertise for effective exploration and analysis. These requirements can present significant challenges forresearchers lackingadvanced computational expertise, limiting the accessibility and broader application of these valuable genomic resources. 展开更多

This paper investigates the translation strategies of ancient Chinese poetry within the contemporary Thai cultural landscape.Situated against the deepening of the Belt and Road Initiative and the building of the China-ASEAN community with a shared future, the dissemination of Chinese classical poetry in Thailand has become a vital channel for cultural exchange.Drawing on real translation examples drawn from political addresses, tourism sites, and educational materials, the study adopts a qualitative textual analysis to examine how translators bridge linguistic and cultural gaps.Five key strategies are identified and illustrated:substitution, paraphrase, omission, addition, and generalization. The findings demonstrate that the flexible application of these strategies can effectively enhance Thai audiences’comprehension while preserving the cultural connotations and rhetorical force of the original poetry. The paper further discusses future prospects, including professional translator training, interdisciplinary research, and the integration of artificial intelligence and virtual reality technologies into poetic translation. It argues that context-sensitive translation strategies are essential for promoting Chinese cultural heritage and fostering deeper Sino-Thai mutual understanding. 展开更多

The Mesopotamian literary figure Gilgāmešhas long been known to have survived outside of cuneiform literature, but the extent and manner of his reception has been a source of controversy.Using“top-down”methodologies which generally presuppose intercultural literary transmission as a result of imperial processes such as ancient“globalisation,”one line of thought has argued for the widespread influence of works associated with Gilgāmešoutside of the cuneiform literary corpus.Noting issues of insufficient falsifiability in such approaches,a novel,“bottom-up”methodology is instead articulated in this study, constructing detailed“literary microhistories”of the individual extracuneiform attestations of Gilgāmeš-like figures, and conservatively positing their relationships both to the Akkadian literary corpus and to each other. This not only supplies a new basis for literary historical research into the extra-cuneiform dissemination of the character Gilgāmeš,but also posits overlooked routes of literary transmission within first-millennium BC empires. 展开更多

As the integration of culture and tourism advances,Langzhong Ancient City, with its profound historical and cultural heritage, faces an increasingly urgent demand for high-quality,interdisciplinary cultural tourism talents. However,a noticeable disconnect exists between the content of vocational college English curriculum and the actual needs of the industry. This study explores the reconstruction of vocational college English curriculum through a systematic analysis of the job requirements within the cultural tourism industry in Langzhong Ancient City.By investigating job types, role responsibilities, and English proficiency requirements in the cultural tourism sector, and examining the gap between the current English curriculum and industry needs, the study identifies issues such as insufficient integration of industry contexts, lack of relevance and practicality, and the absence of local cultural characteristics. To address these issues, this study proposes that the reconstruction of English curriculum should adhere to the principles of practicality, relevance, dynamism, cultural integration, and innovation.A three-tier progressive English curriculum system comprising a“Basic Module+Professional Module+Local Characteristics Module”is constructed.Implementation pathways are designed in terms of content selection and organization, teaching method selection and application, teaching resource development and utilization, dynamic adjustment mechanisms, and interdisciplinary integration. The study suggests that the reconstructed English curriculum system can effectively achieve the organic integration of general English proficiency development,English for Specific Purposes training in the industry, and the incorporation of local cultural characteristics, providing theoretical reference and practical guidance for the reform of vocational college English teaching. 展开更多

China's Northern and Southern Dynasties period(3rd–6th centuries AD)marked a significant era of ethnic integration in northern China. However, previous ancient DNA studies have primarily focused on northern ethnic groups, with limited research on the genetic formation of the hereditary elite family, especially considering their abundant archaeological record and clear material identity. In this study,we obtain the ancient genome of a hereditary elite family,Gao Bin(高宾,503 AD–572 AD),at 0.6473-fold coverage with 475,132 single-nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)on the 1240k panel. His mitochondrial haplogroup belongs to Z4 and Y-haplogroup to O1a1a2b-F2444∗.The genetic profile of Gao Bin is most similar to that of the northern Han Chinese. He can be modeled as deriving all his ancestry from Late Neolithic to Iron Age Yellow River farmers without influence from Northeast Asia,Korea,or the Mongolian Plateau. Our study sheds light on the genetic formation of hereditary elite families in the context of the Southern and Northern Dynasties ethnic integration. 展开更多
