To determine how plants change root anatomical traits to adapt to distinct environments, we measured four key root anatomical traits-stele diameter(SD), cortex thickness(CT), root diameter(RD), and the stele to root diameter ratio(SDRD)-of first-order roots of 82species collected from different vegetation zones along a 2000 m altitudinal gradient on the northern slope of Taibai Mountain. Compared with other altitudes, plants located in temperate birch and fir forests had thinner SD, CT, RD, and SDRD. We found that elevational variation in root anatomical traits could largely be explained by phylogenetic taxonomy(clade). In addition, changes in SD were driven by soil bulk density, whereas variations in CT and RD were influenced by soil available nitrogen. When phylogenetic factors were removed from our analysis, allometric relationships between RD and root anatomical traits(SD and CT) were observed across different altitudes. Our study reveals the influence of phylogeny and environment on the elevational variation in root anatomical traits and further supports the allometric relationship between root anatomical traits(SD and CT) and RD. These findings enhance our understanding of the evolutionary and adaptive mechanisms of root anatomical structures, providing a basis for predicting how root anatomical traits respond to global changes.展开更多

Traits associated with lodging resistance, such as plant height, stem strength, culm wall thickness, pith diameter, and stem diameter, were extensively investigated in earlier studies. However, the solid stem trait was rarely considered. In this study, we measured a range of anatomical and chemical characteristics on solid and hollow stemmed wheat cultivars. Significant correlations were detected between resistance to lodging and several anatomical features, including width of mechanical tissue, weight of low internodes, and width of stem walls. Morphological features that gave the best indication of improved lodging resistance were increased stem width, width of mechanical tissue layer, and stem density. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that 99% of the variation in lodging resistance could be explained by the width of the mechanical tissue layer, suggesting that solid stemmed wheat has several anatomical features for increasing resistance to lodging. In addition, microsatellite markers GWM247 and GWM340 were linked to a single solid stem QTL on chromosome 3BL in a population derived from the cross Xinongshixin(solid stem)/Line 3159(hollow stem). These markers should be valuable in breeding wheat for solid stem.展开更多

METHODS: One hundred and sixty-two consecutive patients (170 eyes) after primary operation for IMH were enrolled. Outcomes were classified as anatomical success when both IMH closure and restoration of the outer retinal structure were achieved. "Prospective" group included 108 patients (115 eyes) followed with optical coherence tomography (OCT) and microperimetry for ly after surgery. Potential prognostic criteria, except microperimetry data, were tested in "retrospective" group (54 patients, 55 eyes). Prognostic value of each parameter was determined using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. Combined predictive power of the best prognostic parameters was tested with the use of linear discriminant analysis. RESULTS: IMH closure was achieved in 106 eyes (92%) in the prospective group and 49 eyes (89%) in the retrospective group. Despite anatomical closure, the outer retinal structure was not restored in two eyes in the first group and in one eye in the second group. Preoperative central subfield retinal thickness demonstrated the best discriminatory capability between eyes with anatomical success and failure: area under the ROC-curve (AUC) 0.938 (95% Ch 0.881-0.995), sensitivity 64% at fixed specificity 95% (cut-off value 300um) in the prospective group; sensitivity 57% and specificity 90% in the retrospective group. Other continuous parameters except tractional hole index (AUC: 0.796, 95% Ch 0.591- 1.000) had significantly lower AUCs (P〈0.05). The best combination of the parameters, established by discriminant analysis in the prospective group, could not confirm its predictive value in the retrospective group. CONCLUSION: Preoperative central subfield retinal thickness is a strong and probably the best predictor of anatomical results of IMH surgical treatment.展开更多

Advances in preoperative assessment of HCC(e.g., imaging studies and liver function tests), surgical techniques, and postoperative care have improved the surgical outcomes and survival of patients who undergo hepatic resection for HCC. However, in the last 20 years, the long-term survival after hepatectomy has remained unsatisfactory owing to the high rates of local recurrence and multicentric occurrence. Anatomical liver resection(AR) was introduced in the 1980 s. Although several studies have revealed tangible benefits of AR for HCC, these benefits are still debated. Because most HCCs occur in patients with liver cirrhosis and poor hepatic function, there are many factors that affect survival, including the surgical method. Nevertheless, many studies have documented the perioperative and long-term benefits of AR in various conditions. In this article, we review the results of several recently published, well-designed comparative studies of AR, to investigate whether AR provides real benefits on survival outcomes. We also discuss the potential pitfalls associated with this approach.展开更多

In the present study, the rootstock of the dwarf-type pear (Pyrus betulaefolia)PY-9’ was identified and used as the material for anatomical analysis.PY-9’ grew to half the tree height of the normal cultivar Zhengdu’, along with fewer internodes and shorter length. Significant differences in growth rate betweenPY-9’ andZhengdu’ were detected at approximately 30 days after full bloom, which corresponded with the time of the greatest difference in water potential between the dwarf and normal cultivar.PY-9’ showed a higher photosynthetic rate thanZhengdu’. Anatomical analysis showed thatPY-9’ had higher area ratios of both phloem and xylem and more developed vascular tissues thanZhengdu’. The three-dimensional reconstructed skeleton of the xylem from X-ray computed tomography scanning revealed greater intervessel connectivity inZhengdu’ than inPY-9’, which could contribute to the more vigorous growth ofZhengdu’. This study thus provides the first comparison of the microstructural properties of xylem elements between a dwarfing-type and vigorous-type pear rootstock, providing new insights into the dwarfing mechanism in pear and facilitating breeding of dwarf pear rootstocks to increase crop productivity.展开更多

摘要Objective:In radiotherapy for cervical cancer, accurate delineation of the clinical target volume(CTV)is essential for ensuring prescription dose coverage while minimizing radiation exposure to organs at risk(OARs).In clinical practice, however,CTV boundaries are often poorly defined on standard medical images and exhibit substantial morphological variability.Consequently, automated methods based solely on image appearance or a single segmentation framework may fail to consistently capture the fine-grained anatomical structures and spatial coherence of the CTV.Existing methods are therefore prone to boundary displacement, morphological discontinuity, and inadequate generalizability across patients, which may compromise the reproducibility and clinical applicability of radiotherapy planning. This study aims to develop a hierarchical anatomical refinement network(HAR-Net)for automatic CTV delineation in cervical cancer.By explicitly integrating anatomical priors and spatial relationships in addition to image appearance information,HAR-Net was designed to improve segmentation accuracy and consistency. Methods:Computed tomography images and manual delineations of the CTV and 5 OARs,the bladder, rectum, bilateral femoral heads, and small bowel, were retrospectively collected from 132 patients with cervical cancer who received radiotherapy at Xiangya Hospital,Central South University, between May 2022 and May 2025.All patients had stage IB2-IVA disease according to the 2018 International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics(FIGO)staging system. The delineations were completed by experienced radiation oncologists.Patients were randomly divided into a training set(n=92),validation set(n=15),and test set(n=25).HAR-Net used nnU-Net as its backbone and incorporated 2 collaborative modules.First,multi-scale OAR-CTV cross-attention(MOCCA)dynamically integrated the anatomical context of OARs into the CTV segmentation pathway through window-based three-dimensional cross-attention.Second,tri-axial coordinate attention(TCA)encoded global positional information along the depth, height, and width axes and spatially refined the features through adaptive reweighting.Segmentation performance was evaluated using the Dice similarity coefficient(DSC),95th-percentile Hausdorff distance(HD95),and average symmetric surface distance(ASSD).HAR-Net was compared with several mainstream segmentation methods, including MultiResUNet,AMTA-Net,Swin UNETR,ResUNet-a,and nnU-Net.Results:HAR-Net outperformed multiple state-of-the-art segmentation methods. It achieved a mean DSC of 82.420%,an HD95 of 8.390 mm,and an ASSD of 1.920 mm.Compared to the nnU-Net baseline,HAR-Net improved the DSC by 3.260 percentage points and reduced the HD95 by 4.080 mm.Ablation experiments further demonstrated that both the MOCCA and TCA modules contributed significantly to the improvement in model performance. Conclusion:By hierarchically integrating multi-scale anatomical context from OARs with tri-axial spatial priors,HAR-Net effectively improves the accuracy and anatomical consistency of automatic CTV delineation for cervical cancer. This framework may reduce the need for repeated manual corrections during clinical delineation, decrease the risk of unnecessary radiation exposure to surrounding OARs,and enhance the overall quality and safety of radiotherapy planning.HAR-Net therefore represents a promising auxiliary tool for automated radiotherapy planning.

摘要Root anatomical traits play an important role in understanding the link between root physiological function and ecological process. 摘要The kidney is essential for maintaining fluid, electrolyte, and metabolite homeostasis, and for regulating blood pressure. The pig serves as a valuable biomedical model for human renal physiology, offering insights across different physiological states. In this study,single-cell RNA sequencing was used to profile 138469 cells from 12 pig kidney samples collected during the embryonic(E),fattening(F),and pregnancy(P)periods, identifying 29 cell types.Proximal tubule(PT)cells exhibited elevated expression of metabolism-related transcription factors(TFs),including GPD1,ACAA1,and AGMAT,with validation across multiple individuals, periods, and species.Fluorescence homologous double-labeling of paraffin sections further confirmed the expression of ACAA1 and AGMAT in PT cells.Comparative analysis of pig and human kidneys revealed a high degree of similarity among corresponding cell types.Analysis of cell-type heterogeneity highlighted the diversity of thick ascending limb(TAL)cells, identifying a TAL subpopulation related to immune function.Additionally, the functional heterogeneity of kidney-resident macrophages(KRM)was explored across different anatomical sites. In the renal medulla,KRM were implicated in phagocytosis and leukocyte activation, whereas in the renal pelvis, they functioned as ligands, recruiting neutrophils with bactericidal activity to the renal pelvis to combat urinary tract infections.

摘要This article comments on the study by Peng et al,published in the World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery, representing a notable advancement in hepatobiliary surgery. This article examines laparoscopic anatomical segment VIII resection,a challenging procedure due to the complex liver anatomy and difficulty in accessing deep-seated lesions.Peng and colleagues’experience with caudal and cranial approaches in 34 patients underscores the feasibility of these techniques while sparking debates about the optimal approach.Their study’s strengths lie in technique standardization and comprehensive analysis, although its limitations highlight the need for further research. As minimally invasive liver surgery progresses, larger, prospective trials and integration of advanced technologies are essential for establishing best practices.
摘要Diaphragmatic function is central to respiration, and its evaluation is critical in intensive care unit(ICU)settings.Ultrasonography is a reliable bedside tool to assess diaphragmatic excursion(DE).[1,2]The conventional M-mode(MM)offers high-resolution imaging but requires precise alignment, which can be diffi cult in ICU patients.[3-5]Anatomical M-mode(AMM)allows flexible line adjustment, enabling accurate DE measurements despite poor acoustic windows.[6]However,comparative data between MM and AMM are limited. This retrospective study evaluated the concordance between MM and AMM for assessing right DE.
摘要Background:The surgical management of patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)has considerably evolved through recent years.Nonetheless, benefits and harms of several laser procedures are still to be determined. The study aimed to report perioperative and early functional results of patients treated with anatomical photo vaporization of the prostate(aPVP).Methods:Data from consecutive patients treated with aPVP by using a 180-W XPS GreenLight laser were prospectively collected in a single tertiary center between 2020 and 2023.The surgical procedure was divided into a modular step-by-step fashion.Patients were asked to complete self-administered questionnaires at baseline and during follow-up visits.Results:Overall,176 consecutive patients were enrolled.Median age was 65[interquartile range(IQR)63–72]years.The baseline median prostate volume was 61.2(IQR 52.5–71.0)mL,and the median max flow rate(Qmax)was 9.3(IQR 7.8–11.5)mL/s.Median preoperative International Prostate Symptom Score(IPSS)was 25(IQR 22–29).Overall,the median operative time was 42(IQR 31–47)minutes with a median energy/mL of tissue delivered of 2447 kJ/mL.At 3 month-evaluation,significant improvements were observed, with a median Qmax of 28(IQR:24–32)mL/s and a median IPSS reduction of 15(IQR:11–18)points.A strong inverse correlation was identified between energy delivery during initial procedural steps and the severity of postoperative storage symptoms(all p<0.05),underscoring the importance of precise energy modulation.Multivariate analysis identified increased prostate volume(odds ratio[OR]:1.02;95%confidence interval[CI]1.01–1.11;p=0.001)and higher prostate width-to-length ratio(OR:1.28;95%CI 1.04–1.78;p=0.03)as independent predictors of increased energy requirements. Conclusions:aPVP with 180-W XPS GreenLight laser is a safe and effective technique showing worthy early functional results. The limitation of the energy delivered in some key phases of the procedure may be associated with a significant reduction in postoperative irritative symptoms. The shape and dimensions of the prostate also play a critical role in determining the total energy required for complete adenoma removal.

摘要BACKGROUND The long-term survival of patients with solitary hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)following anatomical resection(AR)vs non-anatomical resection(NAR)is still controversial. It is necessary to investigate which approach is better for patients with solitary HCC.AIM To compare perioperative and long-term survival outcomes of AR and NAR for solitary HCC.METHODS We performed a comprehensive literature search of PubMed,Medline(Ovid),Embase(Ovid),and Cochrane Library.Participants of any age and sex,who underwent liver resection, were considered following the following criteria:(1)Studies reporting AR vs NAR liver resection;(2)Studies focused on primary HCC with a solitary tumor;(3)Studies reporting the long-term survival outcomes(>5 years);and(4)Studies including patients without history of preoperative treatment. The main results were overall survival(OS)and disease-free survival(DFS).Perioperative outcomes were also compared.RESULTS A total of 14 studies, published between 2001 and 2020,were included in our meta-analysis,including 9444 patients who were mainly from China,Japan, and Korea.AR was performed on 4260(44.8%)patients.The synthetic results showed that the 5-year OS[odds ratio(OR):1.19;P<0.001]and DFS(OR:1.26;P<0.001)were significantly better in the AR group than in the NAR group.AR was associated with longer operating time[mean difference(MD):47.08;P<0.001],more blood loss(MD:169.29;P=0.001),and wider surgical margin(MD=1.35;P=0.04)compared to NAR.There was no obvious difference in blood transfusion ratio(OR:1.16;P=0.65)or postoperative complications(OR:1.24,P=0.18).CONCLUSION AR is superior to NAR in terms of long-term outcomes. Thus,AR can be recommended as a reasonable surgical option in patients with solitary HCC.

摘要Leaf photosynthesis is largely determined by anatomical features. This study aimed to reveal the quantitative effects of the anatomical structure of Coffea arabica leaves on photosynthesis.Pearson’s correlation and path analysis were used to explore the correlation between leaf structure and photosynthesis. To calculate the comprehensive evaluation value of the correlation between leaf anatomical traits and photosynthetic parameters, the Criteria Importance Through Intercriteria Correlation(CRITIC)method was used to obtain the objective weight of each photosynthetic parameter. The study revealed that leaf anatomical traits were highly significant(p<0.01)and correlated with photosynthetic parameters, suggesting that anatomical traits greatly influenced photosynthesis in C.arabica leaf.Similarly, path coefficient analysis strongly showed direct and indirect correlation of photosynthetic capacity of stomatal conductance of the leaves of C.arabica.The results of the comprehensive evaluation also indicated that leaf thickness(LT)and stomatal density(d)were the anatomical characteristics most closely related to photosynthesis. In these results, understanding the effects of the anatomical structure of coffee leaves on photosynthesis, may provide useful information for coffee breeding programs and the management of coffee plantations to optimize photosynthetic capacity.

摘要Anatomical and chemical characteristics of stems affect lodging in wheat(Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars. These markers should be valuable in breeding wheat for solid stem.

摘要A mutant with abnormal hull was first discovered from a twin-seedling strain W2555 in rice(Oryza sativa L.).The mutant had sparse branches and decreased number of florets from the base to the peak.Frequently, the florets at the top of the panicle did not develop completely. The underdeveloped florets often showed slender and white in their life cycle.Genetic analysis indicated that the mutant traits were controlled by a single recessive gene(temporarily designated as ah).ah gene controlled the development of inflorescence meristem and the flower organ. The florets of mutant showed degenerated lemma and palea.Stamens and lodicules were homeoticly transformed into pistils and palea/lemma-like structures, respectively. It seemed that ah mutant phenotypes of the homeotic conversions in lodicules and stamens were very similar to that of the B loss-of-function spwl gene reported previously in rice.

摘要The aim of this study was to characterize the changes in berry anatomy during the development of grape(Vitis vinifera L.,and Vitis vinifera×Vitis labrusca)with different shapes.Paraffin sectioning was used to examine the structural parameters of the cells. The results revealed that, with the development of berries, the transverse and longitudinal diameters of the flesh cells gradually increased, revealing certain regularity. However, the transverse and longitudinal diameters of the epidermal and sub-epidermal cells were different between varieties, reflecting the specificity of the varieties. The growth of the transverse and longitudinal diameters of the berries was found to be completed in the early stage of development.A combination of correlation analysis and size analysis for each cell layer revealed that, due to the small crosssectional area of the epidermal and sub-epidermal cells, the influence of these cells on the transverse and the longitudinal diameters of the berries would be small. In conclusion, the longitudinal and transverse diameters of the grape berries were mainly determined by the longitudinal and transverse diameters of the flesh cells. The different shapes of the grape berries could mainly be attributed to the different growth rates of the flesh cells in the longitudinal and transverse directions. These different rates of growth led to different lengths and widths of the berry.

摘要AIM: To compare the prognoses of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients that underwent anatomic liver resection (AR) or non-anatomic liver resection (NAR) using propensity score-matched populations.
摘要AIM: To determine the parameters most informative in predicting the anatomical results of surgical treatment of idiopathic full-thickness macular hole (IMH). CONCLUSION: Preoperative central subfield retinal thickness is a strong and probably the best predictor of anatomical results of IMH surgical treatment.

摘要BACKGROUND Liver cancer is a malignant tumor with a high incidence. At present, the most effective treatment is laparoscopic hepatectomy(LH).Indocyanine green fluorescence imaging(ICG-FI)has become an important tool in LH,and the most common fluorescent types of tumors are total fluorescence, partial fluorescence, and rim fluorescence.CASE SUMMARY We presented four cases of LH guided by ICG-FI in which we also observed the fourth special fluorescent type. When the tumor or intrahepatic stone compresses the adjacent bile duct to cause local cholestasis, the liver segment or subsegment with obstructed bile drainage will show strong fluorescence.Complete removal of the lesion together with the fluorescent liver parenchyma may help reduce the risk of tumor or stone recurrence.CONCLUSION This type of partial fluorescence can indicate local biliary compression, and the resection method is related to bile drainage, which may be called functional anatomical hepatectomy and ensures radical resection of the lesion.
摘要Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is the sixth most common type of cancer and the third most frequent cause of cancer-related death. We also discuss the potential pitfalls associated with this approach.

摘要The lack of a suitable rootstock to control scion growth has limited the development of high-density plantations in pear production, which is partly attributed to poor understanding of the dwarfing mechanism. This study thus provides the first comparison of the microstructural properties of xylem elements between a dwarfing-type and vigorous-type pear rootstock, providing new insights into the dwarfing mechanism in pear and facilitating breeding of dwarf pear rootstocks to increase crop productivity.

摘要In recent years, bamboo has been widely used in a broad range of applications,a thorough understanding of the structural characteristics of bamboo nodes is essential for better processing and manufacturing of biomimetic materials. This study investigated the complex anatomical structure for the nodes of two bamboo species,Indocalamus latifolius(Keng)McClure and Shibataea chinensis Nakai, using a high-resolution X-ray microtomography(μCT).The results show that the vascular bundle system in the nodal region of I.latifolius and S.chinensis is a net-like structure composed of horizontal and axial vascular bundles.Furthermore, the fiber sheath surrounding metaxylem vessels tended to be shorter in the tangential direction. This structure of bamboo nodes facilitates the tangential and axial transport of moisture and nutrients. The anatomical structure of I.latifolius and S.chinensis nodes has obvious differences, especially in the arrangement of vascular bundles.Vascular bundle frequency was significantly higher in S.chinensis nodes than in I.latifolius nodes. These findings indicate thatμCT is a nondestructive three-dimensional imaging method that can used to examine the anatomical structure of bamboo nodes.

摘要Water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms) is a prolific free floating aquatic macrohpyte found in tropical and subtropical parts of the earth. The effects of pollutants from textile wastewater on the anatomy of the plant were studied. Water hyacinth exhibits hydrophytic adaptations which include reduced epidermis cells lacking cuticle in most cases, presence of large air spaces (7~50 μm), reduced vascular tissue and absorbing structures. Textile waste significantly affected the size of root cells. The presence of raphide crystals was noted in parenchyma cells of various organs in treated plants.
