Many microorganisms exist in the range from hundreds of nanometers to tens of micrometers. Zn O-NPs exhibit attractive antibacterial properties due to increased specific surface area as the reduced particle size leading to enhanced particle surface reactivity. Zn O is a bio-safe material that possesses photo-oxidizing and photocatalysis impacts on chemical and biological species. This review covered Zn O-NPs antibacterial activity including testing methods, impact of UV illumination, Zn O particle properties(size, concentration, morphology, and defects), particle surface modification, and minimum inhibitory concentration. Particular emphasize was given to bactericidal and bacteriostatic mechanisms with focus on generation of reactive oxygen species(ROS) including hydrogen peroxide(H2O2), OH-(hydroxyl radicals), and O2-2(peroxide). ROS has been a major factor for several mechanisms including cell wall damage due to Zn O-localized interaction, enhanced membrane permeability, internalization of NPs due to loss of proton motive force and uptake of toxic dissolved zinc ions. These have led to mitochondria weakness, intracellular outflow, and release in gene expression of oxidative stress which caused eventual cell growth inhibition and cell death. In some cases, enhanced antibacterial activity can be attributed to surface defects on Zn O abrasive surface texture. One functional application of the Zn O antibacterial bioactivity was discussed in food packaging industry where Zn O-NPs are used as an antibacterial agent toward foodborne diseases. Proper incorporation of Zn O-NPs into packaging materials can cause interaction with foodborne pathogens, thereby releasing NPs onto food surface where they come in contact with bad bacteria and cause the bacterial death and/or inhibition.展开更多

Therefore, silver-zeolite doped hydroxyapatite(Ag-Zeo-HAp) coating was synthesized on Ti O2-coated Mg alloy by physical vapour deposition(PVD) assisted electrodeposition technique to decrease the degradation rate of Mg alloy. X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis and field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM) images showed the formation of a uniform and compact layer of Ag-Zeo-HAp with a thickness of 15 μm on the Ti O2 film with a thickness of 1 μm. The potentiodynamic polarization(PDP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) tests indicated that corrosion resistance of Mg-Ca alloy was considerably increased by the Ag-Zeo-HAp coating. The bioactivity test in the simulated body fluid(SBF) solution showed that a dense and homogeneous bonelike apatite layer was formed on the Ag-Zeo-HAp surface after 14 d. Investigation of antibacterial activity via disk diffusion and spread plate methods showed that the Ag-Zeo-HAp coating had a significantly larger inhibition zone(3.86 mm) towards Escherichia coli(E. coli) compared with the Ti O2-coated Mg alloy(2.61 mm). The Ag-Zeo-HAp coating showed high antibacterial performance, good bioactivity, and high corrosion resistance which make it a perfect coating material for biomedical applications.展开更多

In this work, ZM31(Mg-3Zn-1Mn)/x RGO(x = 0, 0.5, 1 and 1.5 wt%) biocomposites were synthesized by semi-powder metallurgy method. The results showed that the RGO acting as an effective reinforcing filler to prevent deformation and showed better compressive strength(282.3 ± 9 MPa) and revealed enhancement in failure Strain(7.8 ± 2.1%) at 1 wt% RGO concentration compared to Mg alloy(244.5 ± 9 MPa and 7.1 ± 1.5%respectively). Moreover, fracture analysis indicated a more ductile fracture of the nanocomposites after the incorporation of RGO. Crack bridging, crack deflection and crack branching are dominant mechanisms for reinforcement of Mg-based containing RGO. Mg composites containing 0.5 wt% RGO showed a low corrosion rate(2.75 mm/year), while more incorporation of RGO resulted in an increased corrosion rate(4.38 mm/year). In addition, the degradation rate of ZM31 alloy(2.57 mg·cm-2·d-1) obviously decreased with the addition of 0.5 wt%RGO(1.84 mg·cm-2·d-1) in the SBF. Besides, continuous apatite layers were created on the composites in the SBF solution. Also, the cell culture examinations showed good cell viability and adhesion on composites with 0.5 and 1 wt% RGO, which was demonstrated by the SEM and MTT assay The alkaline phosphatase(ALP) activity of the ZM3–0.5RGO composite was considerably higher than that of ZM31matrix alloy in 24 h and 48 h, implying higher osteoblastic differentiation. The antibacterial behavior toward both bacteria(E. coli and S.aureus) exhibited that escalating RGO concentration in Mg-matrix composites leads to further inhibition of bacteria growth. These findings suggested that ZM31–0.5RGO biocomposite could be a more promising candidate for orthopedic implants.展开更多

摘要Given the increasing concern regarding antibacterial resistance, the antimicrobial properties of naphthoquinones have recently attracted significant attention. While 1,4-naphthoquinone and its derivatives have been extensively studied, the antibacterial properties of 5,8-dihydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone derivatives remain relatively unexplored. This study presents a comprehensive in vitro and in vivo analysis of the antibacterial activity of 35 naturally sourced and chemically synthesized derivatives of 5,8-dihydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone.Kirby-Bauer antibiotic testing identified three compounds with activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA),with one compound(PNP-02)demonstrating activity comparable to vancomycin in minimum inhibitory concentration, minimum bactericidal concentration(MBC),and time-kill assays.Microscopic and biochemical analyses revealed that PNP-02adversely affects the cell wall and cell membrane of MRSA.Mechanistic investigations, including proteomic sequencing analyses,Western blotting, and RT-q PCR assays, indicated that PNP-02 compromises cell membrane integrity by inhibiting arginine biosynthesis and pyrimidine metabolism pathways, thereby increasing membrane permeability and inducing bacterial death. In an in vivo mouse model of skin wound healing,PNP-02 exhibited antibacterial efficacy similar to vancomycin. The compound demonstrated low toxicity to cultured human cells and in hemolysis assays and remained stable during serum incubation. These findings suggest that PNP-02 possesses promising bioactivity against MRSA and represents a potential novel antibacterial agent.

摘要A novel 3D metal-organic framework(MOF)[Pr2(L)3(H2O)5·H2O]n(Pr-1),(H2L=4,4'-oxybis(benzoic acid))with a rare structure of broken layer net,was constructed under the condition of solvothermal synthesis. The struc-ture and crystal net were analyzed and characterized. This rod net of Pr-1 is new to both RCSR and ToposPro data-bases,and is named as rn-12 as suggested.Due to the luminescent properties of H2L and Pr(Ⅲ),the solid-state fluo-rescence property and sensing performance(solvents and metal ions)of Pr-1 were investigated. The sensing experi-ments indicated that Pr-1 could act as a fluorescence sensor to detect Cd2+ions with good sensitivity. In addition, antibacterial activities show that Pr-1 exhibited stronger antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli(E.coli),Staphylococcus aureus(S.aureus),and Bacillus subtilis(B.subtilis)compared to synthetic materials.
摘要Two Gd2complexes,namely[Gd2(dbm)2(HL1)2(CH3OH)2]·4CH3OH(1)and[Gd2(dbm)2(L2)2(CH3OH)2]·2CH3OH(2),where H3L1=(Z)-N'-[4-(diethylamino)-2-hydroxybenzylidene]-2-hydroxyacetohydrazide,H2L2=(E)-N'-(5-bromo-2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidene)nicotinohydrazide,Hdbm=dibenzoylmethane,have been constructed by adopting the solvothermal method.Structural characterization unveils that both complexes 1 and 2 are constituted by two Gd3+ions,two dbm-ions,two CH3OH molecules, and two polydentate Schiff-base ligands(HL12-or L22-).In addition, complex 1 contains four free methanol molecules, whereas complex 2 harbors two free methanol molecules.By investigating the interactions between complexes 1 and 2 and four types of bacteria(Bacillus subtilis,Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus,Candida albicans),it was found that both complexes 1 and 2 exhibited potent antibacte-rial activities. The interaction mechanisms between the ligands H3L1,H2L2,complexes 1 and 2,and calf thymus DNA(CT-DNA)were studied using ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, fluorescence titration, and cyclic voltammetry. The results demonstrated that both complexes 1 and 2 can intercalate into CT-DNA molecules, thereby inhibiting bacterial proliferation to achieve the antibacterial effects.CCDC:2401116,1;2401117,2.

摘要Antibacterial activity of zinc oxide nanoparticles(Zn O-NPs) has received significant interest worldwide particularly by the implementation of nanotechnology to synthesize particles in the nanometer region. Proper incorporation of Zn O-NPs into packaging materials can cause interaction with foodborne pathogens, thereby releasing NPs onto food surface where they come in contact with bad bacteria and cause the bacterial death and/or inhibition.
摘要Mg-based alloys received significant attention for temporary implant applications while, their applications have been limited by high degradation rate. The Ag-Zeo-HAp coating showed high antibacterial performance, good bioactivity, and high corrosion resistance which make it a perfect coating material for biomedical applications.

摘要TiO2photocatalysts have been widely studied and applied for removing bacteria, but its antibacterial efficiency is limited to the ultraviolet(UV)range of the solar spectrum. In this work,we use the gold(Au)nanorods to enhance the visible and near-infrared(NIR)light absorption of TiO2NBs,a typical UV light photocatalyst, thus the enhancement of its full solar spectrum(UV,visible and NIR)photocatalytic antibacterial properties is achieved.Preliminary surface plasmon resonance(SPR)enhancement photocatalytic antibacterial mechanism is suggested. On one hand, transverse and longitudinal SPR of Au NRs is beneficial for visible and NIR light utilization. On the other hand,Au NRs combined with TiO2NBs to form the heterostructure, which can improve the photogenerated carrier separation and direct electron transfer increases the hot electron concentration while Au NRs as the electron channel can well restrain charge recombination.finally produces the high yield of radical oxygen species and exhibits a superior antibacterial efficiency.Furthermore,we design a sterilization file cabinet with Au NR/TiO2NB heterostructures as the photocatalytic coating plates. Our study reveals that Au NR/TiO2NB heterostructure is a potential candidate for sterilization of bacteria and archives protection.

摘要Nano-silver loaded montmorillonite (Ag-MMT) was prepared by ion-exchange and then a UV-photoreduction two-step approach was applied. The silver content in Ag-MMT determined by Volhard method was about 6.4 wt%. The morphology and structure of as-synthesized Ag-MMT were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results showed that the Ag nanoparticles were spherical and their diameters were about 15-20 nm. Moreover, the structure of MMT did not change. The minimum inhibition concentration (MIC) of Ag-MMT was 100×10-6 and the sterilizing efficiency (SE) of Ag-MMT was approximately 100% against Escherichia coli ATCC 11229 (E. coli. In addition, the slow release property of silver in Ag-MMT was also demonstrated.

摘要3D porous iron(Fe)scaffolds with interconnected open pores are promising candidates for bone repair. However, the bare 3D porous Fe scaffolds lack of antibacterial activity and the ability for cell adhesion.Herein, atomic layer deposition technique was used to deposit nanometer-thick zinc oxide(ZnO)layer onto the skeleton of 3D porous Fe scaffolds with interconnected open pores. The effect of ZnO thin film on the in vitro degradation behavior, antibacterial activity and cytocompatibility of 3D porous Fe scaffolds was systematically evaluated. The results showed that a dense ZnO thin film with a thickness of 76 nm was uniformly deposited on the skeleton of the porous Fe scaffolds. The thickness of ZnO thin film could be easily controlled by the deposition cycles. The deposited ZnO thin film significantly reduced the degradation rate of porous Fe scaffolds and the fabricated ZnO coated porous Fe scaffolds demonstrated strong antibacterial ability against both Gram-negative Escherichia coli and Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus, while did not significantly affect cytocompatibility and could also promote cell adhesion.
摘要Magnesium(Mg) has attracted wide interest in orthopedic applications as they exhibit great biodegradability and strong biocompatibility, while corrosion is the main concern for Mg that should be addressed prior to biomedical applications. These findings suggested that ZM31–0.5RGO biocomposite could be a more promising candidate for orthopedic implants.

摘要Novel tricyclic fluoroquinolones,[1,2,4]triazolo[3,4-h][1,8]naphthyridine-8-one-7-carboxylic acid derivatives 4a-4h bearing carrying a functional Mannich-base moiety at the C-8 position, were synthesized and evaluated for their antimicrobial activity. The results showed that some compounds with a piperazine side chain exhibited comparable or better antibacterial activity than comparator cirprofloxacin.Furthermore, the targeted compounds also displayed a broad spectrum of activity against resistant strains including both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. In particular, compound 4h showed an MIC of 0.25 μg/mL in antibacterial assay against multiple drug-resistant Escherichia coli, which represents an about 30-fold increase of potency compared to ciprofloxacin. Thus, their excellent antibacterial activity against resistant strains suggests that triazole-fused fluoroquinolones warrant further optimization as novel anti-infective chemotherapies.

摘要Drug-resistant bacteria present a severe threat to public health, emphasizing the importance of developing broad-spectrum antibacterial agents that are free from drug resistance.Among silver-based antibacterial agents,nano-silver has been found to exhibit the most promising and comprehensive performance. The exploration of the antibacterial capacity and morphological changes of silver nanoparticles(AgNPs)could offer a starting point for the development of safe and efficient antibacterial agents. In this study, three types of nano-silver-modified polyphosphazene(PRV)nanoparticles with different morphologies were synthesized using precipitation polymerization. These nanoparticles were characterized using various techniques, including Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),and thermogravimetric analysis(TGA).The antibacterial activity of these nanoparticles against Escherichia coli(E.coli)and Staphylococcus aureus(S.aureus)was assessed using minimum inhibitory concentration(MiC)/minimum bactericidal concentration(MBC)tests and inverted fluorescence microscopy. Our results revealed that the antibacterial activity of silver nanoparticles can vary significantly depending on their immobilized form.Ag@PRV Strawberry-like nanoparticles(NPs)exhibited higher antibacterial activity compared to Ag@PRV Yolk-Shell NPs and Ag@PRV Cable-like nanofibers(NFs).Notably, all three types of synthesized nanoparticles demonstrated a stronger bactericidal effect on Gram-positive bacteria than Gram-negative bacteria.Live/dead bacterial staining and scanning electron microscopy demonstrated that silver can kill bacteria by altering the permeability of their cell membranes. These findings offer valuable insights for designing and practically applying new silver-based antibacterial agents in the future.

摘要Filamentous microalgae from genus Tribonema are promising sustainable sources of omega-7 palmitoleic acid, but their ability to accumulate this compound varies among species and depends on the initial nitrogen concentration(INC)supply. In this study, the palmitoleic acid accumulation capacities of five Tribonema species were examined under three different INCs to select the alga species with the highest production. Results showed that a high INC was associated with increased palmitoleic acid accumulation but led to decreased biomass concentration in all tested species. In particular,T.minus grown at 18 mmol L−1INC had the highest palmitoleic acid content(20.72%of dry weight)and productivity(90.88 mg L−1d−1).The combination of alkali metal freezing precipitation(AMFP)and urea complexation successfully isolated and enriched palmitoleic acid from T.minus and obtained a purity of 80.11%and a yield of 7.39 g(100 g)−1 of algal powder. The compound was identified as(9Z)-hexadecenoic acid(C16:1ω-7).Antibacterial activity evaluation for the highly concentrated palmitoleic acid(10 mg mL−1)against Streptococcus agalactiae revealed the formation of a 12.10 mm-diameter inhibition zone and the minimum inhibitory concentration of 31.25μg mL−1,indicating that palmitoleic acid is an effective antibacterial agent. This study is the first to report that palmitoleic acid derived from T.minus can antagonize S.agalactiae, which further broadens the potential application of Tribonema biomass in green aquaculture.
摘要A series of novel pleuromutilin derivatives with 4H-pyran-4-one and pyridin-4-one substitution in the C-14 side chain have been designed and synthesized. In vitro antibacterial activity evaluation showed that most of the derivatives exhibited potent antibacterial activity against drug resistant Gram-positive strains. Compounds 12 a, 12 d, and 28 are the most active derivatives in this series, displaying activity comparable to that of retapamulin and BC-3781. As the metabolic stability of this series is not satisfactory, further modifications are going on to improve their pharmacokinetic profile.
