The Four-Step model of transportation planning and modal choice provided the theoretical basis for this study. A survey research design involving a stratified sampling technique was adopted. The descriptives on transport modes, amount and time spent revealed that 10 (76.9%) males and 3 (23.1%) females preferred bicycle as means of transportation, 7 (58.3%) males and 5 (41.7%) females preferred motorcycle, while a significant proportion 90 (53.9%) males and 77 (46.1%) females preferred tricycle, 80 (63.0%) males and 47 (37.0%) females preferred carsaxis, and 12 (46.2%) males and 14 (53.8%) females preferred mass transit bus. However, 14 (46.7%) males and 16 (53.3%) females in marshy terrain and coastal locations preferred canoes and boats. The result of the logistic regression model revealed that gender modal preference is more likely to be influenced by mode of transportation with a beta weight of 1.140, safety considerations 1.139, ownership of transport 1.135 and distance to place of work 1.073. Hence, this study recommends that a combination of these factors should be incorporated into transport planning to achieve effective transport planning and sustainable development in the Yenagoa metropolis.展开更多

Its prevalence is increasing due to the perpetuity of carriers of the trait who are able to marry. Women aged 18 to 35 years constitute the most reproductive age group. This study was conducted with the aim of determining the prevalence of sickle cell trait among women aged 18 to 35 years and the attitude of women carriers towards the choice of a carrier spouse. Materials and methods: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study with analytical aims conducted from March to September 2024 in Kisangani. A total of 215 women aged 18 to 35 years presented for screening for sickle cell trait. This study described the following parameters: Sociodemographic data (age, level of education, socioeconomic level, marital status), obstetric and medical history (obstetric formula, sickle cell disease, high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, asthma), knowledge of sickle cell disease (etiological classification, transmission, prevention, high-risk marriages, clinical manifestations, progression of the disease), attitude of the woman in relation to the choice of an AS spouse, as well as the reasons justifying each attitude. Results: The prevalence of sickle cell trait was 23.7% (51/215). A total of 64.3% of respondents had accepted the choice of spouse before confirmation of carrier status and 73.8% had refused after confirmation of carrier status. Choice was significantly related to age (p-value = 0.027), occupation (p-value = 0.015), parity (p-value = 0.039) and gesture (p-value = 0.034) before test. The ignorance of the union at risk was associated with the risk (p = 0.005;OR: 9.10;CI 95%: 2.03 - 4.81) of accepting the choice of a spouse carrying the trait. Conclusion: The prevalence of sickle cell trait among women aged 18 to 35 years in Kisangani remains within the limits of that of the general population. The choice of a spouse carrying sickle cell trait is associated with the woman’s age, her profession, parity, gestation and her knowledge about high-risk unions. Screening campaigns and health education sessions enable women carrying sickle cell trait to make a wise choice.展开更多

Several factors influencing the exit choice behaviour, including the information obtained by evacuees, the tendency of following others, the visibility and familiarity of exits and the physical conditions of nearby exits, are considered. Evacuees are allowed to re-select their target exits for minimizing the perceived disutility during evacuation process. Numerical results from applying the model to cellular automata simulation of evacuation are presented and the effects of some model parameters on evacuation time are investigated.展开更多

Male mate choice is tightly linked to 2 other phenomena: female competition for males and ornamentation in females. In the current article, I review the existing literature on this in a group of fishes, Poeciliidae. In this group, male mate choice appears to be based on differences in female quality, especially female size, which is a proxy for fecundity. Some males also have to choose between heterospecific and conspecific females in the unusual mating system of the Amazon molly. In this case, they typically show a preference for conspecific females. Whereas male mate choice is relatively well documented for this family, female ornamentation and female competition are not.展开更多

Screening campaigns and health education sessions enable women carrying sickle cell trait to make a wise choice.
摘要This study applies the basic theories of“Ethical Literary Criticism”proposed by Nie Zhenzhao to Arthur Miller’s play All My Sons, focusing on the ethical predicament Joe Keller faces in his specific ethical identity within the ethical environment of his time.It further points out the process and the consequence of his ethical choices in the conflict between family interests and social responsibilities,so as to reveal the ethical teaching function of the play.Joe’s ethical predicament arises from the contradiction between his family roles and his desire for interests as a businessman. In this conflict, the interaction of the human factor and the animal factor within the“Sphinx factor”causes Joe to make two different ethical choices.Through Joe’s tragic fate,Miller reveals the ethical enlightenment in All My Sons:Individuals, families, and society are inextricably linked,so today’s citizens need to recognize their inherent social nature and fulfill ethical duties in both personal and social aspects.Miller uses the play to criticize the ethical ethos of 20th-century American society and calls on readers to reevaluate the instrumental rationality behind the American Dream.
摘要My Life as a Foreign Country is an Iraq War narrative by American veteran Brian Turner, recounting the protagonist Turner’s experiences in the Iraq War alongside the wartime experiences of his forefathers. As a descendant of a military family, the protagonist Turner makes ethical choices based on his ethical identity, elucidating the ethical concepts and dilemmas faced by Iraq War soldiers. This paper interprets the narrative from the perspective of literary ethics, analyzing the ethical choices made by the protagonist Turner to explain the underlying reasons and motivations, thereby revealing the ethical perplexities of American soldiers in modern warfare.

摘要A logit-based discrete choice model is proposed to study the exit choice behaviour of evacuees in rooms with internal obstacles and multiple exits. Numerical results from applying the model to cellular automata simulation of evacuation are presented and the effects of some model parameters on evacuation time are investigated.

摘要Other than measuring public opinion, policy makers have not pursued the involvement of the Australian public in decisions about the provision of medicinal cannabis(MC).This research measures public preferences for the provision of MC and the relationship of these preferences to current Australian policy.A total of 1166 Australian adults completed an online discrete choice experiment(DCE).The DCE consisted of 12 pairwise forced choice policy profiles per participant.Profile alternatives were described according to the attributes access, evidence, medical supervision, intoxicating ingredient, therapy format and cost, and were patient specific.Conditional logit(CL)and latent class analyses were conducted.Participants preferred MC to be prescribed at any time during a patient’s treatment plan and for costs to be subsidised.Oral formulations were preferred to raw flower forms. In general, the public preferred patients to be prescribed MC with low levels of tetrahydrocannabinol(THC).THC levels in MC were not important to the choices of males or when prescribing MC to patients with a terminal condition.Three response groups were found.Group 1(34.9%)preferred patients to be prescribed oral formulations of low-intoxicating MC when all other medications have failed and there is good evidence for its use.Group 2(40.3%)preferred MC to be available at any time of a patient’s treatment plan, and medical supervision or the level of intoxicating ingredient in the therapy was not important.Group 3(24.8%)were the only group to have no preferences for the subsidisation of MC costs. All groups were disinclined toward the prescription of raw cannabis flower. In general, public preferences do not completely align with current Australian policy. The public would likely support the Australian government’s liberal policy on MC for terminal patients.
摘要This paper examines the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West through the lens of rational choice theory, with a particular focus on the logic of cultivation and behavioral decision-making.By incorporating the notion of“inner cultivation”(xin xing xiulian)into the analytical framework,we introduce the concept of the“cultivating economic agent,”aiming to explore how rationality is generated, evolved, and transcended throughout the spiritual journey. The study argues that,in the context of Eastern culture, rationality is not merely an innate or static faculty but one that can be cultivated and transformed.Through textual analysis of the behavioral trajectories of Sun Wukong,Zhu Bajie, and Tang Sanzang,we uncover a structured behavioral logic of“goal orientation–institutional discipline–purification of the mind.”The findings suggest that although cultivation behaviors are not utilitarian decisions per se,they exhibit rational characteristics such as goal stability, autonomous will, and embedded incentives.

摘要In recent years, there have been important developments in the joint analysis of the travel behavior based on discrete choice models as well as in the formulation of increasingly flexible closed-form models belonging to the generalized extreme value class. The objective of this work is to describe the simultaneous choice of shopping destination and travel-to-shop mode in downtown area by making use of the cross-nested logit(CNL) structure that allows for potential spatial correlation. The analysis uses data collected in the downtown areas of Maryland-Washington,D.C.region for shopping trips, considering household, individual, land use,and travel-related characteristics. The estimation results show that the dissimilarity parameter in the CNL model is 0.37 and significant at the 95% level, indicating that the alternatives have high spatial correlation for the short shopping distance. The results of analysis reveal detailed significant influences on travel behavior of joint choice shopping destination and travel mode. Moreover,a Monte Carlo simulation for a group of scenarios arising from transportation policies and parking fees in downtown area, was undertaken to examine the impact of a change in car travel cost on the shopping destination and travel mode switching. These findings have important implications for transportation demand management and urban planning.
摘要Although the majority of studies on mate choice focus on female mate choice, there is growing recognition of the role of male mate choice too. Whereas male mate choice is relatively well documented for this family, female ornamentation and female competition are not.
摘要Forecasting travel demand requires a grasp of individual decision-making behavior. However, transport mode choice(TMC)is determined by personal and contextual factors that vary from person to person.Numerous characteristics have a substantial impact on travel behavior(TB),which makes it important to take into account while studying transport options.Traditional statistical techniques frequently presume linear correlations, but real-world data rarely follows these presumptions, which may make it harder to grasp the complex interactions.Thorough systematic review was conducted to examine how machine learning(ML)approaches might successfully capture nonlinear correlations that conventional methods may ignore to overcome such challenges. An in-depth analysis of discrete choice models(DCM)and several ML algorithms, datasets, model validation strategies, and tuning techniques employed in previous research is carried out in the present study.Besides, the current review also summarizes DCM and ML models to predict TMC and recognize the determinants of TB in an urban area for different transport modes. The two primary goals of our study are to establish the present conceptual frameworks for the factors influencing the TMC for daily activities and to pinpoint methodological issues and limitations in previous research. With a total of 39 studies, our findings shed important light on the significance of considering factors that influence the TMC.The adjusted kernel algorithms and hyperparameter-optimized ML algorithms outperform the typical ML algorithms.RF(random forest),SVM(support vector machine),ANN(artificial neural network),and interpretable ML algorithms are the most widely used ML algorithms for the prediction of TMC where RF achieved an R2 of 0.95 and SVM achieved an accuracy of 93.18%;however,the adjusted kernel enhanced the accuracy of SVM 99.81%which shows that the interpretable algorithms outperformed the typical algorithms. The sensitivity analysis indicates that the most significant parameters influencing TMC are the age, total trip time, and the number of drivers.
