The quasi-monochromatic,continuously energy-tunable,and high-brightness gamma rays that are produced by an inverse Compton scattering(ICS)light source provide an ideal probe for gamma-ray imaging.However,owing to the influence of the intrinsic energy-angle correlation spectrum of this type of light source,monochromatic computed tomography(CT),especially in the gamma-ray energy region,can only be realized in a low-efficiency manner,similar to first-generation CT.A dual-energy scan scheme with a large imaging field of view(FOV)was developed in this study to improve the imaging efficiency.The effectiveness of this scheme was demonstrated based on the beam parameters of a typical ICS light source using Monte Carlo simulations.By leveraging the principle of basis material decomposition,the influence of the energyangle correlation spectrum on CT reconstruction was corrected,and a monochromatic CT image of the imaging object was accurately reconstructed.Furthermore,the electron density and effective atomic number of the imaging object could be obtained simultaneously. 展开更多

Polarized high-energy photon gamma rays are excellent probes for nuclear and particle physics research.Recently,a unique method for generating MeV energy-tunable gamma rays,the Laser Compton Slant Scattering(LCSS)mode,was implemented at the Shanghai Laser Electron Gamma Source(SLEGS).A study of the polarization properties of the LCSS gamma beam at SLEGS combined theoretical simulations with experimental measurements.The intensity of spatial distributions and Stokes parameters were systematically simulated for LCSS of linearly/circularly polarized laser photons and unpolarized relativistic electrons.The measured scattered gamma spatial distributions at three typical slant incidence angles were in agreement with the simulation for the linearly polarized laser.The results imply that the polarization degree of the incident photon is almost completely transferred to the scattered gamma rays for any incident angle,while the direction of polarization of the scattered gamma ray changes with the incident and scattering angles. 展开更多

We present a prototype for hybrid Compton and positron emission tomography(PET)imaging aimed at enhancing data utilization and enabling concurrent imaging of multiple radiopharmaceuticals.The prototype comprises two detectors that utilize LYSO-SiPM and were available in our laboratory.One detector consists of a 50×50 array of LYSO crystals,each measuring 0.9mm×0.9mm×10mm with 1 mm pitches,whereas the other detector comprises a 25×25 array of LYSO crystals,each measuring 1.9mm×1.9mm×10mm with 2 mm pitches.These detectors are mounted on a rotational stage,which enables them to function as either a Compton camera or a PET detector pair.The 64-channel signals from the SiPMs of each detector are processed through a capacitive multiplexing circuit to yield four position-weighted outputs.Distinct energy windows were used to discriminate Compton events from PET events.Energy resolution and energy-channel relationships were calibrated via multiple sources.The measured average energy resolutions(full widths at half maximum,FWHMs)for the detectors at 511 keV were 17.5%and 15.2%,respectively.The initial experimental results indicate an angular resolution(FWHM)of 8.6◦for the system in Compton imaging mode.A V-shaped tube injected with 18 F solution was clearly reconstructed,which further verified the imaging capabilities of the system in Compton imaging mode.The results of simulation and experimental imaging studies show that the system can detect tumors as small as 1 mm in diameter when working in PET imaging mode.Mouse bone PET imaging was successfully conducted,with the results matching well with the corresponding CT images.This technology holds great potential for advancing the development of physiological function modalities. 展开更多

Extreme ultraviolet(EUV)lithography is crucial for advancing semiconductor manufacturing;however,current EUV light sources,such as laser-produced plasma(LPP),have significant limitations,including low energy-conversion efficiency and debris contamination.Various schemes,including optical free-electron laser undulators,have been studied to generate coherent EUV light.However,optical undulators suffer from limited focal lengths,which pose a significant challenge to achieving a higher gain.In this study,a novel approach is proposed that employs a stretched off-axis paraboloid(sOAP)mirror,thus extending the focus distance to the centimeter range while achieving a well-controlled periodic light field.This enables high-intensity 92-eV EUV sources to exceed 1016/s,as demonstrated in the simulations.The proposed setup provides an efficient and powerful solution for advanced applications including semiconductor lithography. 展开更多

In this article, we depict an overall picture for its applications which are based on two basic theories. The first is the electron densitometry theory related to electron density. According to this theory its applications are in two fields: one is Compton scatter densitometry (CSD), the other is Compton scatter imaging (CSI). The second technique involves the electron momentum distribution and Compton profile. Applications of this technique are mainly the Compton profile analysis (CPA) and the Compton profile or the electron momentum distribution in physics and chemistry. Future research fields are suggested according to the current situation and limits of this technique and a promising prospect is unfolded. 展开更多

We report our recent progress in the design and simulation of a high-brightness S-band photo-injector with a ballistic bunching scheme aimed at driving an inverse Compton scattering(ICS)X-ray source.By adding a short standing-wave buncher between the RF gun and first booster in a conventional S-band photo-injector,electron bunches with a 500 pC charge can be compressed to the sub-picosecond level with very limited input RF power and an unchanged basic layout of the photo-injector.Beam dynamics analysis indicates that fine tuning of the focusing strength of the gun and linac solenoid can well balance additional focusing provided by the standing wave buncher and generate a well-compensated transverse emittance.Thorough bunching dynamics simulations with different operating conditions of the buncher show that a buncher with more cells and a moderate gradient is suitable for simultaneously obtaining a short bunch duration and low emittance.In a typical case of a 9-cell buncher with a 38 MV/m gradient,an ultrashort bunch duration of 0.5 ps(corresponding to a compression ratio of>5)and a low emittance of<1 mm mrad can be readily obtained for a 500 pC electron pulse.This feasible ballistic bunching scheme will facilitate the implementation of an ultrashort pulse mode inverse Compton scattering X-ray source on most existing S-band photo-injectors. 展开更多

A novel and fast three-dimensional reconstruction method for a Compton camera and its performance in radionuclide imaging is proposed and analyzed in this study. The conical surface sampling back-projection method with scattering angle correction(CSS-BP-SC) can quickly perform the back-projection process of the Compton cone and can be used to precompute the list-mode maximum likelihood expectation maximization(LM-MLEM). A dedicated parallel architecture was designed for the graphics processing unit acceleration of the back-projection and iteration stage of the CSS-BP-SC-based LM-MLEM. The imaging results of the two-point source Monte Carlo(MC) simulation demonstrate that by analyzing the full width at half maximum along the three coordinate axes, the CSS-BP-SC-based LM-MLEM can obtain imaging results comparable to those of the traditional reconstruction algorithm, that is, the simple back-projection-based LM-MLEM. The imaging results of the mouse phantom MC simulation and experiment demonstrate that the reconstruction results obtained by the proposed method sufficiently coincide with the set radioactivity distribution, and the speed increased by more than 664 times compared to the traditional reconstruction algorithm in the mouse phantom experiment. The proposed method will further advance the imaging applications of Compton cameras. 展开更多

研究了多光子非线性Compton散射下等离子体中两个不同密度区的界面附近耦合激光场中电子的运动,导出了电子的横向动量与纵向动量相互关系的一般方程.研究发现:介质的非均匀性导致电子运动特性的重要变化,在一定的条件下,这种非均匀性有... 研究了多光子非线性Compton散射下等离子体中两个不同密度区的界面附近耦合激光场中电子的运动,导出了电子的横向动量与纵向动量相互关系的一般方程.研究发现:介质的非均匀性导致电子运动特性的重要变化,在一定的条件下,这种非均匀性有利于注入电子获得加速;散射可有效地降低弹推阈值.当耦合脉冲强度低于弹推阈值时,电子最终被脉冲超过,但无论对初始时刻静止的电子还是运动的电子,能量增益均不为0,且随注入能量的提高而迅速地增加.当耦合脉冲强度高于弹推阈值时,电子最终超过脉冲而获得很高的能量增益,其值远远高于均匀等离子体的情况.在入射相同能量的情况下,耦合光会使电子获得更高的能量增益. 展开更多

The gamma-ray energy range is from 1 MeV ... Based on the LINAC of BEPCII, a high-polarized, high bightness, energy-tunable, monoenergetic laser compton backscattering (LCS)gamma-ray source is under construction at IHEP. The gamma-ray energy range is from 1 MeV to 111 MeV. It is a powerful and hopeful researchplatform to reveal the underlying physics of the nuclear, the basic particles and the vacuum or to check the exist basic physical models, quantumelectrodynamic (QED) theories. In the platform, a 1.064 mm Nd:YAG laser system and a 10.6 mm CO2 laser system are employed. All the triggersignals to the laser system and the electron control system are from the only reference clock at the very beginning of the LINAC to make sure thetemporal synchronization. Two optical transition radiation (OTR) targets and two charged-couple devices (CCD) are used to monitor and to alignthe electron beam and the laser beam. With the LCS gamma-ray source, it is proposed to experimentally check the gamma-ray calibrations, thephoton-nuclear physics, nuclear astrophysics and some basic QED phenomena. 展开更多

Compton camera-based prompt gamma(PG) imaging has been proposed for range verification during proton therapy. However, a deviation between the PG and dose distributions, as well as the difference between the reconstructed PG and exact values, limit the effectiveness of the approach in accurate range monitoring during clinical applications. The aim of the study was to realize a PG-based dose reconstruction with a Compton camera, thereby further improving the prediction accuracy of in vivo range verification and providing a novel method for beam monitoring during proton therapy. In this paper, we present an approach based on a subset-driven origin ensemble with resolution recovery and a double evolutionary algorithm to reconstruct the dose depth profile(DDP) from the gamma events obtained by a cadmium-zinc-telluride Compton camera with limited position and energy resolution. Simulations of proton pencil beams with clinical particle rate irradiating phantoms made of different materials and the CT-based thoracic phantom were used to evaluate the feasibility of the proposed method. The results show that for the monoenergetic proton pencil beam irradiating homogeneous-material box phantom,the accuracy of the reconstructed DDP was within 0.3 mm for range prediction and within 5.2% for dose prediction. In particular, for 1.6-Gy irradiation in the therapy simulation of thoracic tumors, the range deviation of the reconstructed spreadout Bragg peak was within 0.8 mm, and the relative dose deviation in the peak area was less than 7% compared to the exact values. The results demonstrate the potential and feasibility of the proposed method in future Compton-based accurate dose reconstruction and range verification during proton therapy. 展开更多
