The IUGG Associations for Atmosphere,Oceans and Cryosphere—IAMAS,IAPSO and IACS—held a Joint Scientific Assembly in Busan,South Korea,from 20 to 25 July 2025.This was the first joint assembly of all three associations since 2009,when they met in Montreal,Canada.It was the first time any of the associations had been hosted in Korea,and it had been two decades since any of them had met in Asia.The choice of Busan as the venue supported high levels of participation and smooth conference operations.The Local Organizing Committee,chaired by Prof.Kyung-Ja Ha of Pusan National University,oversaw the successful organization of the event.The assembly brought together 1725 participants in total,including 1282 researchers and 443 invited participants and individuals involved in side events,exhibitions,media coverage,and volunteer work.Participants came from 46 countries across Asia,Europe,North America,South America,Africa,and Oceania.IAMAS had 736 participants,IAPSO 321,and IACS 225.Survey data from 951 respondents revealed that Early Career Scientists,defined as those within 10 years of receiving their PhD,accounted for approximately 25%of participants.The demographic profile skewed young,with 66%of attendees in their 20s and 30s.The scientific program was organized by Prof.Seon-Ki Park(Chair),the Secretaries General from all three Associations,and the Local Organizing Committee.Reflecting the theme“Our Interconnected Earth,”the scientific program emphasized integrated approaches to climate systems,addressing climate change and environmental challenges through collaborative,transdisciplinary research. 展开更多

The 18thAcademic Conference of the Seismological Society of China was held in Guiyang,China,on August 7,2023,fostering academic exchanges on the latest advancements in earthquake science.The conference featured 170 abstracts and nearly 300 academic presentations.In this paper,we classify and summarize the scholars'presentations,analyzing the current state and progress of earthquake science in China from four key perspectives:crustal structure dynamics,earthquake mechanisms,seismic resilience of urban and rural infrastructure,and innovative earthquake services.The presentations reveal that research primarily focuses on detecting crustal structures in southwest China,with seismic imaging technology and magnetotelluric detection being the most commonly used methods.Studies on earthquake mechanisms are centered on recent destructive events,such as the 2023 MW7.8 and MW7.6 Türkiye earthquakes,the 2022 MW6.7 Luding earthquake,and the 2021 MW7.4 Madoi earthquake.Regarding seismic resilience,the focus is on shock resistance and seismic isolation experiments involving large-scale hybrid structures,as well as the formation mechanisms and risk assessments of earthquake-triggered disaster chains.Additionally,significant progress has been made in smart earthquake services,particularly in rapid disaster assessment,earthquake disaster information extraction technology,the China Seismic Experimental Site,and the strong-motion Flatfile database for China's Mainland.Overall,this conference highlighted that earthquake science in China has reached a new level of development.However,numerous scientific challenges and critical technologies remain to be addressed,such as acquiring higher-resolution crustal structures and applying big data and artificial intelligence to diverse seismic models and earthquake services,which requires the continued collaboration of researchers in the field. 展开更多

From June 23 to 27,2025,the 11 th Ecosystem Services Partnership World Conference(ESP11)was held at the Darwin Convention Centre in Australia,with the theme of"From global to local ecosystem services:pathways to Nature-based Solutions inspired from Down Under".As the founder of the theory of soil and water ecology,the author was invited to attend the conference and delivered an English academic report at the B2—Healing riverscapes venue.Before and after the conference(June 19-July 5,2025),the author also conducted soil and water ecological investigations in various locations such as Australia s Great Ocean Road,Penguin Island,Kiama Blowhole,and Kakadu National Park.The insights from the Australia investigation regarding soil and water ecology are:①preserving the native soil and water ecology;②protecting the culture of soil and water ecology;③achieving both ecological and economic benefits.The soil and water ecological insights from the International Conference on Healing Riverscapes include:①advocating for near-natural engineering methods;②integrating river healing techniques,methods,and philosophies with community needs;③emphasizing flood mitigation and disaster resilience;④valuing the cultural heritage of indigenous peoples in protecting the soil and water ecosystem;and⑤maintaining the health of river ecosystems.Theory and practice demonstrate that the theory of soil and water ecology is a theoretical distillation of Nature-based Solutions(NbS),serving as a common theoretical foundation in the field of ecological environment and possessing universal significance globally. 展开更多
