Discrete-time neurodynamic approaches(also called recurrent neural networks(RNNs))are easily implemented on software and simulated on digital circuits.First,this paper proposes two modified discrete-time RNNs for quickly dealing with constrained l 1-norm minimization problems.Next,the two modified discrete-time RNNs are proven to be globally convergent to an optimal solution under a large step size.Finally,we apply the obtained results for image recovery.Two convergent discrete-time RNN based algorithms for non-blind image restoration are presented.Due to having a low complexity,the two discrete-time RNNs are more computationally efficient than the existing discrete-time RNN for image restoration.Computed results with application examples show that the two discrete-time RNN-based algorithms are indeed superior to the existing discrete-time RNNbased algorithms with regards to computation time. 展开更多

This paper is concerned with event-triggered control of discrete-time systems with or without input saturation.First,an accumulative-error-based event-triggered scheme is devised for control updates.When the accumulated error between the current state and the latest control update exceeds a certain threshold,an event is triggered.Such a scheme can ensure the event-generator works at a relatively low rate rather than falls into hibernation especially after the system steps into its steady state.Second,the looped functional method for continuous-time systems is extended to discrete-time systems.By introducing an innovative looped functional that links the event-triggered scheme,some sufficient conditions for the co-design of control gain and event-triggered parameters are obtained in terms of linear matrix inequalities with a couple of tuning parameters.Then,the proposed method is applied to discrete-time systems with input saturation.As a result,both suitable control gains and event-triggered parameters are also co-designed to ensure the system trajectories converge to the region of attraction.Finally,an unstable reactor system and an inverted pendulum system are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed method. 展开更多

A robust Adaptive Discrete-time Sliding Mode Controller (ADSMC) is formulated, and is applied to control the pitch motion of a simulated Flapping-Wing Micro Air Vehicle (FWMAV). There is great potential for FWMAVs to be used as aerial tools to assist with gathering data and surveying environments. Thanks to modern manufacturing and technology, along with an increased comprehension behind the aerodynamics of wing flaps, these vehicles are now a reality, though not without limitations. Given their diminutive size, FWMAVs are susceptible to real-world disturbances, such as wind gusts, and are sensitive to particular variations in their build quality. While external forces such as wind gusts can be reasonably bounded, the unknown variations in the state may be difficult to characterize or bound without affecting performance. To address these problems, an ADSMC is developed. First, the FWMAV model is converted from continuous-time to discrete-time. Second, an ADSMC for the newly discretized FWMAV model is developed. Using this controller, the trajectory tracking performance of the FWMAV is assessed against a traditional discrete sliding mode controller, and is found to have a decreased chattering frequency and decreased control effort for the same task. Therefore, the ADSMC is assessed as the superior controller, despite being completely unaware of the model parameters or wind gust. 展开更多

This paper proposes a discrete-time robust control technique for an uncertain nonlinear system. The uncertainty mainly affects the system dynamics due to mismatched parameter variation which is bounded by a predefined known function. In order to compensate the effect of uncertainty, a robust control input is derived by formulating an equivalent optimal control problem for a virtual nominal system with a modified costfunctional. To derive the stabilizing control law for a mismatched system, this paper introduces another control input named as virtual input. This virtual input is not applied directly to stabilize the uncertain system, rather it is used to define a sufficient condition. To solve the nonlinear optimal control problem, a discretetime general Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman(DT-GHJB) equation is considered and it is approximated numerically through a neural network(NN) implementation. The approximated solution of DTGHJB is used to compute the suboptimal control input for the virtual system. The suboptimal inputs for the virtual system ensure the asymptotic stability of the closed-loop uncertain system. A numerical example is illustrated with simulation results to prove the efficacy of the proposed control algorithm. 展开更多

A binary available bit rate (ABR) scheme based on discrete-time variable structure control (DVSC) theory is proposed to solve the problem of asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) networks congestion in this paper. A discrete-time system model with uncertainty is introduced to depict the time-varying ATM networks. Based on the system model, an asymptotically stable sliding surface is designed by linear matrix inequality (LMI). In addition, a novel discrete-time reaching law that can obviously reduce chatter is also put forward. The proposed discrete-time variable structure controller can effectively constrain the oscillation of allowed cell rate (ACR) and the queue length in a router. Moreover, the controller is self-adaptive against the uncertainty in the system. Simulations are done in different scenarios. The results demonstrate that the controller has better stability and robustness than the traditional binary flow controller, so it is good for adequately exerting the simplicity of binary flow control mechanisms. 展开更多

This paper presents a discrete-time model to describe the movements of a group of trains, in which some operational strategies, including traction operation, braking operation and impact of stochastic disturbance, are defined. To show the dynamic characteristics of train traffic flow with stochastic disturbance, some numerical experiments on a railway line are simulated. The computational results show that the discrete-time movement model can well describe the movements of trains on a rail line with the moving-block signalling system. Comparing with the results of no disturbance, it finds that the traffic capacity of the rail line will decrease with the influence of stochastic disturbance. Additionally, the delays incurred by stochastic disturbance can be propagated to the subsequent trains, and then prolong their traversing time on the rail line. It can provide auxiliary information for rescheduling trains When the stochastic disturbance occurs on the railway. 展开更多

By utilizing the relative outputs of neighboring agents, a reduced-order observer is designed for each following agent. A multi-step control algorithm is established based on the Lyapunov method and the modified discrete-time algebraic Riccati equation. A sufficient condition is given to ensure that the discrete-time linear multi-agent system can achieve the expected leader-following formation.Finally, numerical examples are provided so as to demonstrate the effectiveness of the obtained results. 展开更多

In this paper, a discrete difference equation is proposed to imitate the consistently changing phases of the nodes. During the interaction, each node will update its phase based on the difference equation. Each node has many different nodes connected with it, and these neighbors have different influences on it. The similarity between two nodes is applied to describe the influences between them. Nodes with high positive similarities will get together and nodes with negative similarities will be far away from each other.Communities are detected ultimately when the phases of the nodes are stable. Experiments on real world and synthetic signed networks show the efficiency of detection performance. Moreover, the presented method gains better detection performance than two existing good algorithms. 展开更多

With these conditions, the robust state feedback stochastic stabilization problem and H-infinity control problem are solved, and the LMI conditions are obtained. This paper focuses on the distributed cooperative learning(DCL)problem for a class of discrete-time strict-feedback multi-agent systems under directed graphs.Compared with the previous DCL works based on undirected graphs,two main challenges lie in that the Laplacian matrix of directed graphs is nonsymmetric,and the derived weight error systems exist n-step delays.Two novel lemmas are developed in this paper to show the exponential convergence for two kinds of linear time-varying(LTV)systems with different phenomena including the nonsymmetric Laplacian matrix and time delays.Subsequently,an adaptive neural network(NN)control scheme is proposed by establishing a directed communication graph along with n-step delays weight updating law.Then,by using two novel lemmas on the extended exponential convergence of LTV systems,estimated NN weights of all agents are verified to exponentially converge to small neighbourhoods of their common optimal values if directed communication graphs are strongly connected and balanced.The stored NN weights are reused to structure learning controllers for the improved control performance of similar control tasks by the“mod”function and proper time series.A simulation comparison is shown to demonstrate the validity of the proposed DCL method. 展开更多

The considered system is approximated by a discrete-time loope∞tension control system model. Based on a Lya- punov functional method, a state feedback H∞ control law is developed which makes the closed-loop system asymp totically stable with guaranteed H∞ performance. The controller gains are obtained by solving a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). In contrast to the existing results, the proposed approach can obtain good H∞ performance and effectively reduce external disturbances. The strip tension is also less affected by the change of looper angel, so good control performances can be obtained. Moreover, this control scheme is easy to implement, and can be applied to other linear systems. A simulation example with practical parameters is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the developed method. 展开更多
