Over the past three decades,there has been increasing interest in miniaturized percutaneous nephrolithotomy(mPCNL)techniques featuring smaller tracts as they offer potential solutions to mitigate complications associa... Over the past three decades,there has been increasing interest in miniaturized percutaneous nephrolithotomy(mPCNL)techniques featuring smaller tracts as they offer potential solutions to mitigate complications associated with standard PCNL(sPCNL).However,despite this growing acceptance and recognition of its benefits,unresolved controversies and acknowledged limitations continue to impede widespread adoption due to a lack of consensus on optimal perioperative management strategies and procedural tips and tricks.In response to these challenges,an international panel comprising experts from the International Alliance of Urolithiasis(IAU)took on the task of compiling an expert consensus document on mPCNL procedures aimed at providing urologists with a comprehensive clinical framework for practice.This endeavor involved conducting a systematic literature review to identify research gaps(RGs),which formed the foundation for developing a structured questionnaire survey.Subsequently,a two-round modified Delphi survey was implemented,culminating in a group meeting to generate final evidence-based comments.All 64 experts completed the second-round survey,resulting in a response rate of 100.0%.Fifty-eight key questions were raised focusing on mPCNLs within 4 main domains,including general information(13 questions),preoperative work-up(13 questions),procedural tips and tricks(19 questions),and postoperative evaluation and follow-up(13 questions).Additionally,9 questions evaluated the experts’experience with PCNLs.Consensus was reached on 30 questions after the second-round survey,while professional statements for the remaining 28 key questions were provided after discussion in an online panel meeting.mPCNL,characterized by a tract smaller than 18 Fr and an innovative lithotripsy technique,has firmly established itself as a viable and effective approach for managing upper urinary tract stones in both adults and pediatrics.It offers several advantages over sPCNL including reduced bleeding,fewer requirements for nephrostomy tubes,decreased pain,and shorter hospital stays.The series of detailed techniques presented here serve as a comprehensive guide for urologists,aiming to improve their procedural understanding and optimize patient outcomes. 展开更多

Accurate quantification of exercise interventions and changes in muscle function is essential for personalized health management.Electrical impedance myography(EIM)technology offers an innovative,noninvasive,painless,and easy-to-perform solution for muscle health monitoring.However,current EIM platforms face a number of limitations,including large device size,wired connections,and instability of the electrode-skin interface,which limit their applicability for monitoring mus-cle movement.In this study,a miniature wireless EIM platform with a user-friendly smartphone app is proposed and devel-oped.The miniature,wireless,multi-frequency(20 kHz-1 MHz)EIM platform is equipped with flexible microneedle array elec-trodes(MAE).The advantages of MAEs over conventional electrodes were demonstrated by physical field modeling simula-tions and skin-electrode contact impedance comparison tests.The smartphone APP was developed to wirelessly operate the EIM platform,and to transmit and process real-time muscle impedance data.To validate its effectiveness,a seven-day adaptive fatigue training study was conducted,which demonstrated that the EIM platform was able to detect muscle adaptations and serve as a reliable indicator of fatigue.This study presents an innovative approach to applying EIM technology to muscle health monitoring and exercise testing,thereby advancing the development of personalized health management and athletic performance assessment. 展开更多

A triple-band miniaturized end-fire antenna based on the odd modes of spoof surface plasmonic polariton(SSPP)waveguide resonator is proposed in this paper.To meet the ever increasing demand for more communication channels and less antenna sizes,multi-band antennas are currently under intensive investigation.By a novel feeding method,three odd modes are excited on an SSPP waveguide resonator,which performs as an end-fire antenna operating at three bands,7.15-7.26 GHz,11.6-12.2 GHz and 13.5-13.64 GHz.It exhibits reasonably high and stable maximum gains of 5.26 dBi,7.97 dBi and 10.1 dBi and maximum efficiencies of 64%,92%and 98%at the three bands,respectively.Moreover,in the second band,the main beam angle shows a frequency dependence with a total scanning angle of 19°.The miniaturized triple-band antenna has a great potential in wireless communication systems,satellite communication and radar systems. 展开更多

Two-photon fluorescence microscopy,based on the principles of two-photon excited fluorescence and second harmonic generation,enables real-time non-invasive in vivo imaging of skin and cells,providing a means to assess human health status.In this paper,a miniaturized two-photon imaging system is designed and fabricated to withstand extreme vibration and shock environments.The mechanical stability of the optical and structural components of the miniaturized probe is evaluated under random vibration and shock vibration tests using finite element simulation methods and ray tracing techniques.During the environmental testing,the maximum stress on the probe is 11.5 MPa,which is well below the threshold for structural failure.The largest structural displacement occurs at the collimator,where random vibrations produce an offset of 10.9μm.This offset is analyzed by using geometric optics and point spread functions.Under the maximum collimator offset,the theoretical resolution,as calculated by the point spread function,shifted from 463.28 nm to 463.48 nm.Additionally,a lateral offset of 127 nm is observed at the center position,which does not significantly impact the imaging performance.Finally,environmental and imaging performance tests are conducted.The system’s measured resolution after the environmental tests is 530 nm,consistent with its resolution prior to testing.Imaging tests are also performed on the skin’s stratum corneum,granular layer,spinous layer,and basal cell layer,revealing clear cellular structural information.These results confirm the device’s potential for applications in extreme shock and vibration environments. 展开更多

This article presents a compact crab-shaped reconfigurable antenna(CSRA)designed for 5G sub-6 GHz wireless applications. The antenna achieves enhanced gain in a miniaturized form factor by incorporating a hexagonal split-ring structure controlled via two radio frequency(RF) positive-intrinsicnegative(PIN) diodes(BAR64-02V). While the antenna is primarily designed to operate at 3.50 GHz for sub-6 GHz 5G applications, RF switching enables the CSRA to cover a broader frequency spectrum, including the S-band, X-band, and portions of the Ku-band. The proposed antenna offers several advantages: It is low-cost(fabricated on an FR-4 substrate), compact(achieving 64.07% size reduction compared to conventional designs), and features both frequency and gain reconfigurability through digitally controlled PIN diode switching. The reflection coefficients of the antenna, both without diodes and across all four switching states, were experimentally validated in the laboratory using a Keysight Field Fox microwave analyzer(N9916A, 14 GHz). The simulated radiation patterns and gain characteristics closely matched the measured values, demonstrating an excellent agreement. This study bridges the gap between traditional and next-generation antenna designs by offering a compact,cost-effective, and high-performance solution for multiband, reconfigurable wireless communication systems. The integration of double-split-ring resonators and dynamic reconfigurability makes the proposed antenna a strong candidate for various applications, including S-band and X-band systems, as well as the emerging lower 6G band(7.125 GHz–8.400 GHz). 展开更多

The rapid progress of microanoelectronic systems and miniaturized portable devices has tremendously increased the urgent demands for miniaturized and integrated power supplies.Miniaturized energy storage devices(MESDs),with their excellent properties and additional intelligent functions,are considered to be the preferable energy supplies for uninterrupted powering of microsystems.In this review,we aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the background,fundamentals,device configurations,manufacturing processes,and typical applications of MESDs,including their recent advances.Particular attention is paid to advanced device configurations,such as two-dimensional(2D)stacked,2D planar interdigital,2D arbitrary-shaped,three-dimensional planar,and wire-shaped structures,and their corresponding manufacturing strategies,such as printing,scribing,and masking techniques.Additionally,recent developments in MESDs,including microbatteries and microsupercapacitors,as well as microhybrid metal ion capacitors,are systematically summarized.A series of on-chip microsystems,created by integrating functional MESDs,are also highlighted.Finally,the remaining challenges and future research scope on MESDs are discussed. 展开更多

Heavy metals,notably Pb2+and Cu2+,are some of the most persistent contaminants found in groundwater.Frequent monitoring of these metals,which relies on efficient,sensitive,cost-effective,and reliable methods,is a necessity.We present a nanocomposite-based miniaturized electrode for the concurrent measurement of Pb2+and Cu2+by exploiting the electroanalytical technique of square wave voltammetry.We also propose a facile in situ hydrothermal calcination method to directly grow binder-free mesoporous Ni O on a three-dimensional nickel foam,which is then electrochemically seeded with gold nanoparticles(Au NPs).The meticulous design of a low-barrier Ohmic contact between mesoporous Ni O and Au NPs facilitates target-mediated nanochannel-confined electron transfer within mesoporous Ni O.As a result,the heavy metals Pb2+(0.020 mg.L-1detection limit;2.0–16.0 mg.L-1detection range)and Cu2+(0.013 mg.L-1detection limit;0.4–12.8 mg.L-1detection range)can be detected simultaneously with high precision.Furthermore,other heavy metal ions and common interfering ions found in groundwater showed negligible impacts on the electrode’s performance,and the recovery rate of groundwater samples varied between 96.3%±2.1%and 109.4%±0.6%.The compactness,flexible shape,low power consumption,and ability to remotely operate our electrode pave the way for onsite detection of heavy metals in groundwater,thereby demonstrating the potential to revolutionize the field of environmental monitoring. 展开更多

Its plasma chamber dimension is Φ30 mm×40 mm and the whole size of the ion source is Φ180 mm×130 mm. This source has a unique structure with the whole source body embedded into the extraction system. It can be operated in both continuous wave(CW) mode and pulse mode. In the CW mode, more than 20 m A hydrogen ion beam at 40 k V can be obtained with the microwave power of 180 W and about 1 m A hydrogen ion beam is produced with a microwave power of 10 W. In the pulse mode, more than50 m A hydrogen ion beam with a duty factor of 10% can be extracted when the peak microwave power is 1800 W. 展开更多

Based on miniaturized components' characteristics, the method of assembling miniaturized gear and shaft together with corresponding calculating model of the interference amount are proposed. On the basis of main effecting factors analysis on the gear and shaft assembling interference amount, calculating formula including all factors effective on the interference amount necessary for reliable system running was built up. The methods of reverse calculating theoretical model was used to build up the equivalent simulation model of the theoretical one, together with simulation verification and case study for calculating formula. The results show that the cold assembling method is applicable for miniaturized gear and shaft, but in the assembling process, the interference amount compensating the shape error of contacting surfaces takes a large proportion, which is the main cause of stress variance on contacting surfaces. 展开更多

AIM To compare the outcomes of retrograde intrarenal surgery(RIRS) and miniaturized percutaneous nephrolithotomy(mini-PCNL) in treating lower pole(LP) renal stones with a diameter of 1.5-2.5 cm.METHODS A total of 216 patients who underwent mini-PCNL(n = 103) or RIRS n = 113) for LP stones with a diameter of 1.5-2.5 cm were enrolled between December 2015 and April 2017 at the Urology Department of Ningbo Urology and Nephrology Hospital.RESULTS Significant differences were found in the hospital stay(9.39 ± 4.01 vs 14.08 ± 5.26, P < 0.0001) and hospitalization costs(2624.5 ± 513.36 vs 3255.2 ± 976.5, P < 0.0001) between the RIRS and mini-PCNL groups. The mean operation time was not significantly different between the RIRS group(56.48 ± 24.77) and the mini-PCNL group(60.04 ± 30.38, P = 0.345). The stone-free rates at the first postoperative day(RIRS vs mini-PCNL: 90.2% vs 93.2%, P = 0.822) and the second month postoperatively(RIRS vs mini-PCNL: 93.8% vs 95.1%, P = 0.986) were not significantly different.CONCLUSION RIRS and mini-PCNL are both safe and effective methods for treating LP stones with a diameter of 1.5-2.5 cm. RIRS can be considered as an alternative to PCNL for the treatment for LP stones of 1.5-2.5 cm. 展开更多

This paper presents a miniaturized microstrip branch-line coupler with good harmonic suppression performance. The proposed coupler consists of four branch-line sections, each of which is loaded by open-circuit stubs both at the center and the two ends. This type of loading can realize size reduction and harmonic suppression. As an example, a proposed branch-line coupler operating at 1.0 GHz is designed, fabricated and measured. The results show that the proposed branch-line coupler occupies 67% size of a conventional one and has better than 20 dB suppression from 1.9 to 5.8 GHz. Furthermore, the high slop of the transition band ensures good selectivity of the coupler. 展开更多

The major source of morbidity following cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is the systemic inflammatory response (SIRS response) which leads to multiple derangements in different organ systems. To combat this, miniaturized cardiopulmonary bypass circuits (MCPBC) have been created to lessen the inflammatory response to CPB. Here we examine early outcomes following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) using a MCPBC system compared to conventional bypass techniques at a single institution. Methods: 60 consecutive patients undergoing elective CABG were prospectively enrolled. Nine patients underwent coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) with conventional CPB (cCABG), 33 underwent off-pump CABG (OPCAB), and the remaining 18 patients underwent CABG with a MCPBC system. Demographics and outcomes were compared between groups and statistical analyses applied. Results: No significant difference was observed in mortality between groups, with only one death reported in total. Morbidity was also low, totaling only 6.7%, with none occurring in the MCPBC group. The MCPBC group required less PRBC and total blood product transfusion than the cCABG and OPCABG groups (p = 0.05), but changes in PLT and Hct over time were not different between groups. Conclusions: The MCPBC system was shown to be comparable to conventional bypass and OPCABG in terms of postoperative complications and mortality. Furthermore, the MCPBC system had the advantage of a decreased transfusion requirement. Based on our preliminary observations, this mini-cardiopulmonary bypass circuit provides a safe alternative to conventional bypass techniques. 展开更多

The measured results were in good agreement with the designed results. The CRLH TL contributed to a broadband filter is a balanced structure with a small size of only 1.428 mm*0.5530 mm. The frequency characteristics are simulated and the results show that the 3 dB band width of the proposed filter is about 13.5 GHz from 45.8 GHz to 59.3 GHz. The insertion loss is quite flat through the pass-band and the return loss is relatively low. 展开更多

Miniature computational spectrometers,distinguished by their compact size and light weight,have shown great promise for on-chip and portable applications in the fields of healthcare,environmental monitoring,food safety,and industrial process monitoring.However,the common miniaturization strategies predominantly rely on advanced micronano fabrication and complex material engineering,limiting their scalability and affordability.Here,we present a broadband miniaturized computational spectrometer(ElastoSpec)enabled by the photoelastic effect,featuring easy-to-prepare and configurable implementation with adaptive modulation units selection for optimized spectral reconstruction.A single computational photoelastic spectral filter,with only two polarizers and a plastic sheet,is designed to be integrated onto the top of a CMOS sensor for snapshot spectral acquisition.The distinct spectral modulation units are directly generated from different spatial locations of the filter,due to the photoelastic-induced chromatic polarization effect of the plastic sheet.We experimentally demonstrate that ElastoSpec offers excellent reconstruction accuracy for the measurement of both simple narrowband and complex spectra.ElastoSpec exhibits a spectral resolution of 2 nm and achieves a full width at half maximum(FWHM)error of approximately 0.2 nm for monochromatic inputs.It also maintains a mean squared error(MSE)value on the order of 10-3 with only 10 spectral modulation units.Furthermore,we develop an adaptive strategy for selecting modulation units to enhance spectrum sensing performance through the flexibility in optimizing the modulation effectiveness and the number of spectral modulation units.This work avoids the need for complex micro-nano fabrication and specialized materials for the design of computational spectrometers,thus paving the way for the development of simple,cost-effective,and scalable solutions for on-chip and portable spectral sensing devices. 展开更多

An acoustically actuated piezoelectric antenna is proposed for low frequency(LF)band in this paper.The proposed antenna is theoretically calculated,numerically optimized by the finite element method(FEM),and experimentally analyzed.The measurement results show that the near-field radiation pattern of the piezoelectric antenna is similar to that of the electric dipole antenna.The radiation efficiency of the piezoelectric antenna is 3-4 orders of magnitude higher than that of electrically small antenna(ESA),with their sizes being the same size,and the maximum transmission distance obtained experimentally is 100 cm,which can be improved by increasing the input power.In addition,the gain,directivity,and quality factor of piezoelectric antenna are also analyzed.In this paper,traditional antenna parameters are creatively used to analyze the performance of piezoelectric antenna.The research conclusions can provide reliable theoretical basis for realizing LF antenna miniaturization. 展开更多
