Both the shape of ceria and the loading of copper affect the chemical bonding of copper species on ceria surfaces and the electronic and geometric character of the relevant interfaces. Nanostructured ceria, including particles(polyhedra), rods, and cubes, provides anchoring sites for the copper species. The atomic arrangements and chemical properties of the(111),(110) and(100) facets, preferentially exposed depending on the shape of ceria, govern the copper-ceria interactions and in turn determine their catalytic properties. Also, the metal loading significantly influences the dispersion of copper species on ceria with a specific shape, forming copper layers, clusters, and nanoparticles. Lower copper contents result in copper monolayers and/or bilayers while higher copper loadings lead to multi-layered clusters and faceted particles. The active sites are usually generated via interactions between the copper atoms in the metal species and the oxygen vacancies on ceria, which is closely linked to the number and density of surface oxygen vacancies dominated by the shape of ceria.展开更多

A full understanding of the N2O formation mechanism is essential to suppress the N2O emission during the low-temperature NH3-SCR, and requires an intensive study of this heterogeneous catalysis process. In this study, we investigated the reaction between NH3 and NO over a Pd/CeO2 catalyst in the absence of O2, using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, NH3-temperature-programmed desorption, NO-temperature-programmed desorption, and in-situ Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. Our results indicate that the N2O formation mechanism is reaction-temperature-dependent. At temperatures below 250 ℃, the dissociation of HON, which is produced from the reaction between surface H· adatoms and adsorbed NO, is the key process for N2O formation. At temperatures above 250 ℃,the reaction between NO and surface N·, which is produced by NO dissociation, is the only route for N2O formation, and the dissociation of NO is the rate-determining step. Under optimal reaction conditions, a high performance with nearly 100% NO conversion and 100% N2 selectivity could be achieved. These results provide important information to clarify the mechanism of N2O formation and possible suppression of N2 O emission during low-temperature NH3-SCR.展开更多

Physical structure and chemical properties of different catalysts were characterized by N2 adsorption, X-ray diffraction(XRD), CO chemisorption, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR) and X-ray fluorescence(XRF). After 10 h SO2 sulfation, it was found that the decrement on CO oxidation catalytic activity was limited on Pd/Ce0.75Zr0.25O2 compared to Pd/Ce O2-Ti O2 and Pd/Ce O2. It demonstrated that Pd/Ce0.75Zr0.25O2 was more sulfur resistant compared to the other two catalysts. After sulfur exposure, catalyst texture was not much influenced as shown by N2 adsorption and XRD, and surface Pd atoms were poisoned indicated by CO chemisorption results. Pd/Ce0.75Zr0.25O2 and Pd/Ce O2-Ti O2 exhibited less sulfur accumulation compared to Pd/Ce O2 in the sulfation process. Furthermore, XPS results clarified that surface sulfur amount, especially surface sulfates amount on the sulfated catalysts was more crucial for the deactivation in sulfur containing environment.展开更多

Herein a novel approach was designed to synthesize Pd-CeO2 colloidal assembled spheres(CASs) in one-pot fashion. The Pd clusters were encompassed by the CeO2 nanocrystals with a high dispersity. Based on this hybrid structure, the Pd/ceria interface area can be greatly improved. After Pd-CeO2 CASs was supported on γ-Al2O3, its catalytic activity for CH4 combustion was evaluated. The result shows that Al2O3 supported Pd-CeO2 CASs exhibits an improved catalytic activity and stability, compared to the Pd/CeO2 catalyst prepared by impregnation method. The results of several characterization techniques indicate that the enhanced catalytic activity of Al2O3 supported Pd-CeO2 CASs can be attributed to the more interfacial Pd-O-Ce species and the more surface active oxygen species.展开更多

The catalytic stability over hybrid catalyst of CeO_2–CaO–Pd/HZSM-5 was investigated to ensure that the kinetics experimental results were not significantly influenced by induction period and catalytic deactivation. A large number of kinetic data points(40 sets) were obtained over a range of temperature(240–300 °C), pressure(3–4 MPa), gas hourly space velocity(GHSV)(2000–3000 L·kg-1·h-1) and H_2/CO mole ratio(2–3). Kinetic model for the methanol synthesis reaction and the dehydration of methanol were obtained separately according to reaction mechanism and Langmuir–Hinshelwood mechanism. Regression parameters were investigated by the method combining the simplex method and Runge–Kutta method. The model calculations were in appropriate accordance with the experimental data.展开更多
