This study aims to investigate the impact of vulnerable narcissism on social anxiety in adolescents, specificallyfocusing on the mediating effects of self-concept clarity (SCC) and self-esteem (SE) in the relationship between vulnerablenarcissism and social anxiety. Through cluster sampling, a questionnaire survey was conducted among 982 students from threesecondary schools in two provinces. The data was analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM). The results revealedthat there was a significant negative correlation between vulnerable narcissism and both self-concept clarity and self-esteem,while there was a significant positive correlation between vulnerable narcissism and social anxiety. Additionally, self-conceptclarity showed a significant positive correlation with self-esteem but had a negative correlation with social anxiety. Both selfconceptclarity and self-esteem played an intermediary role in the chain linking vulnerable narcissism to social anxiety. Thisstudy confirms the mediating role of both self-concept clarity and self-esteem in explaining how vulnerable narcissisminfluences social anxiety, providing valuable insights into its underlying mechanism.展开更多

摘要The current study examined the roles of collective self-esteem and personal self-esteem in the relationship between national identity and subjective well-being.Participants were 583 Chinese college students(females=49%;mean age=19.25±1.85 years). They completed measures of national identity, collective self-esteem,personal self-esteem,and subjective well-being.Path analysis findings result indicated national identity to influence the students’subjective wellbeing through three pathways:(1)national identity→collective self-esteem→subjective well-being,meaning higher subjective wellbeing with collective self-esteem.(2)national identity→personal self-esteem→subjective well-being,to suggest higher personal self-esteem was associated with subjective wellbeing;(3)national identity→collective selfesteem→personal self-esteem→subjective well-being.Compared to simple mediation models constructed with only personal self-esteem or collective self-esteem as a single mediating variable, the chain mediation model better explains the mediating mechanism of national identity on subjective well-being(the variance explained by the mediating variables increased by 65.38%and 59.26%,respectively).The collective self-esteem and personal self-esteem mediation is consistent with social identity theory, whereby national identity enhances collective self-evaluation,which in turn bolsters personal self-worth and subjective well-being.These findings of the current study offer new insights into how national identity affects subjective well-being in collectivistic culture.

摘要Objective:To examine the relationship between sedentary lifestyle and self-esteem among nursing students.A sedentary lifestyle has become increasingly prevalent among university students, particularly in this digital era,and is suspected to affect not only physical health but also psychological aspects such as self-esteem.Methods:This correlational analytic study used a quantitative approach and was conducted at the Institute of Technology and Health Sciences(ITSKes)ICMe Jombang from January to February 2025.A total of 252 active nursing students from semesters 2,4,and 6 were selected through purposive sampling.Sedentary lifestyle was measured using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire(IPAQ)short form, while self-esteem was assessed with the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale(RSES).Data were analyzed using Spearman’s rank correlation and simple linear regression. Results:Most respondents reported high levels of sedentary behavior and moderate to low levels of self-esteem.A strong and statistically significant negative correlation was found between sedentary lifestyle and self-esteem(Spearman’sρ=-0.773,P=0.002).Regression analysis also showed that a sedentary lifestyle significantly predicted self-esteem(R2=0.597,β=-0.773,P=0.000),indicating that 59.8%of the variance in self-esteem could be explained by sedentary behavior. Conclusions:A high level of sedentary lifestyle is significantly associated with lower self-esteem among nursing students. These findings highlight the need for interventions promoting active lifestyles to support the psychological well-being of students.
基金2025 Corning Project:“The Impact of Calligraphy and Painting Training on the Self-Esteem Level of Patients with Schizophrenia in the Rehabilitation Phase”(Project No.:20250608)。
摘要Objectives:This study analyzes the value of calligraphy and painting training in enhancing the self-esteem level of patients with schizophrenia in the rehabilitation phase. Methods:A total of 100 patients with schizophrenia were selected as research subjects and randomly divided into two groups using a random number table method. The control group, consisting of 50 patients, underwent routine rehabilitation training interventions in the ward, while the experimental group, also consisting of 50 patients, received professional calligraphy and painting training in the rehabilitation therapy department in addition to routine rehabilitation training. The self-esteem levels of patients in both groups were evaluated before intervention and after 24 weeks of intervention. Results:Both groups had low scores on the self-esteem scale and the deficit scale before intervention, which improved to varying degrees after intervention. The experimental group had significantly higher scores on the self-esteem scale and the deficit scale after 24 weeks of intervention compared to the control group(p<0.05).Conclusion:Strengthening calligraphy and painting training for patients with schizophrenia in the rehabilitation phase can effectively enhance their self-esteem levels, reduce their deficit levels, and have a positive impact on the rehabilitation of patients with schizophrenia.

摘要Background:While various factors contributing to delinquency have been explored, the role of selfesteem in this specific context has received little attention.Hence, this study aims to investigate the complex issue of adolescent delinquency in Iran by focusing on the mediating role of self-esteem in the relationship between parental attachment and delinquent behavior. Methods:Using the multistage cluster random sampling method, the research involved 528 high school students in Tehran. Each student completed validated scales assessing their parental attachment,self-esteem,and delinquency at school.Multiple regression analyses with the Sobel test and bootstrappingmethod were used to examine mediated effects. Results:Thefindings reveal that self-esteem significantly mediates the relationship betweenmaternal attachment and delinquency(standardized coefficient=−0.0292;p=0.04).Adolescents with secure maternal attachments tend to exhibit higher self-esteem,which reduces the likelihood of delinquent behavior. In contrast, paternal attachment did not show a significant mediating effect in this study. These results underscore the importance of cultivating secure maternal relationships and fostering positive self-esteem to address adolescent delinquency. Conclusion:The study suggests that targeted interventions that strengthen maternal attachment and boost self-esteem could effectively mitigate delinquent behaviors among Iranian adolescents. These interventions should prioritize the emotional support and value of secure maternal bonds as key factors in promoting healthy adolescent development.
摘要Global challenges like epidemics, wars, and climate change expose humans to life-and-death threats daily, triggering death anxiety and subsequent death reflection, which involves deliberate cognitive processing of mortality. While some studies have shown the positive impacts of death reflection, such as on well-being,the relationship between death reflection and existential well-being,closely related to life and death, remains unexplored. This study aimed to investigate the effects of death reflection on existential well-being and the mediating role of relational self-esteem.675 university students from Sichuan and Hubei,China, completed the death reflection scale, relational self-esteem scale, and the existential well-being subscale of the spiritual well-being scale. Results indicated that death reflection was positively correlated with both relational self-esteem and existential well-being,and relational self-esteem was positively related to existential well-being.Mediation analysis confirmed that relational self-esteem mediated the relationship between death reflection and existential well-being.This study not only enriches the research content on the positive effects of death reflection theoretically, but also holds significant practical value in guiding individuals who have experienced death or been exposed to death-related information in their psychological reconstruction and recovery.

摘要Aim:The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among perceived organizational support, intention to remain, career success and self-esteem in male nurses in China. Background:Recently, turnover is considered increasingly more normal.Male nurses could be stabilized by improving their perceived organizational support, career success and selfesteem.Design:A cross-sectional design was used in the present study.Method:405 full-time male Registered Nurses, from Grade A hospitals in Tianjin, were surveyed.Pearson correlation,Cronbach's alpha coefficient and structural equation modelling were conducted in the study. Results:The results illustrated that self-esteem mediated the relationship between perceived organizational support and career success.Career success mediated the relationship between self-esteem and intention to remain. Conclusion:Hospitals should pay more attention to the benefits of positive personality trait on working motivation. It is meaningful to enhance perceived organizational support, career success and self-esteem in the working process so that nurses are willing to stay in the current employment.
摘要Background:Early adolescents become increasingly conscious of their body image, which can profoundly impact their mental health and well-being.In South Korea, societal pressures and expectations regarding physical appearance are particularly intense, making the study of body-esteem in Korean adolescents especially pertinent. This study explores the roles of self-esteem,peer attachment, and maternal attachments in shaping body-esteem among early adolescents. Methods:Structural equation modeling(SEM)was employed using data from 1326 Korean middle school students(Meanage=13.32,SD=1.73).Results:The results revealed that self-esteem had a significantly positive effect on both peer attachment and maternal attachment. However, while peer attachment positively influenced body-esteem,maternal attachment did not have a significant direnct effect on body-esteem.Conclusions:These findings suggest that during early adolescence, peer relationships, rather than maternal bonds, play a more critical role in shaping body image. In a culture that emphasizes peer validation and societal beauty standards, peer relationships have a stronger impact on body-esteem.Interventions should focus on fostering supportive peer environments and enhancing self-esteem to promote positive body-esteem and mental health among adolescents.
摘要In the past several decades, the cognitive skills in language learning have been put more attention to than emo-tions.While it should be noted that language learning often involves strong positive or negative emotions.Lack of positive emotionin language learning will lead to severe discount of the cognitive competence. This article is intended to discuss the influence ofemotion, especially self-esteem,on motivation in language learning from Schumann’s neurobiological perspective, and the implica-tion of self-esteem for language teaching—how to enhance learners’self-esteem,to promote their motivation, hence to guidethem to step into their next zone of proximal development in both academic performance and social skills and become whole per-sons responsible for our society.
摘要Objective:The paper aims to explore the status of intensive care unit(ICU)nurses'self-esteem,job satisfaction, and subjective well-being and to investigate the relationship among the three elements. Methods:A cross-sectional survey of 224 nurses from five teaching hospitals in Tianjin,China, was conducted.Self-esteem scale, job satisfaction scale, and subjective well-being scale were used to explore the status of ICU nurses'self-esteem,job satisfaction, and subjective well-being.Correlation among the three elements was calculated by SPSS 17.0.Results:The scores of three scales(i.e.,ICU nurses'self-esteem,job satisfaction, and subjective well-being)were 27.67±3.41,43.57±9.04,and 69.73±11.60,respectively.The subjective well-being was significantly positively correlated with self-esteem and job satisfaction(r=0.454,P<0.01;r=0.584,P<0.01,respectively).Conclusion:The study shows that the prevalence of subjective well-being and self-esteem with ICU nurses are at a low level, and job satisfaction is at the median level.Associations among self-esteem,job satisfaction, and subjective well-being in ICUs have been confirmed.Self-esteem and job satisfaction positively correlated with nurse subjective well-being.The higher the self-esteem and job satisfaction levels are,the stronger the subjective well-being is.The working pressure in ICUs cannot be alleviated temporarily;hence,to promote a high subjective well-being,managers and ICU nurses increase their self-esteem and job satisfaction through taking strategies that strengthen psychological construction.

摘要Contingent self-esteem captures the fragile nature of self-esteem and is often regarded as suboptimal to psychological functioning.Self-compassion is another important self-related concept assumed to promote mental health and well-being.However,research on the relation of self-compassion to contingent self-esteem is lacking. Two studies were conducted to explore the role of selfcompassion, either as a personal characteristic or an induced mindset,in influencing the effects of contingent self-esteem on well-being.Study 1 recruited 256 Chinese college students(30.4%male,mean age=21.72 years)who filled out measures of contingent self-esteem,self-compassion,and well-being.The results found that self-compassion moderated the effect of contingent self-esteem on well-being.In Study 2,a sample of 90 Chinese college students(34%male,mean age=18.39 years)were randomly assigned to either a control or self-compassion group. They completed baseline trait measures of contingent self-esteem,self-compassion,and self-esteem.Then,they were led to have a 12-min break(control group)or listen to a 12-min self-compassion audio(self-compassion group),followed by a social stress task and outcome measures. The results demonstrated the effectiveness of the brief self-compassion training and its moderating role in influencing the effects of contingent self-esteem on negative affects after the social stress task. This research provides implications that to equip with a self-compassionate mindset could lower the risk of the impairment of well-being associated with elements of contingent selfesteem, which involves a fragile sense of self-worth.It may also provide insights into the development of an“optimal selfesteem”and the improvement of well-being.
摘要Objective:To investigate the relationship between social intelligence(SI),empathy, and self-esteem among nursing students. Methods:A quantitative cross-sectional design was utilized to conduct this study.Data were collected from 465 students from 4 different nursing colleges between April and November 2021.The Tromso Social Intelligence Scale(TSIS),Jefferson Empathy Scale, and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale were used to collect data.A complete enumerative technique was used to select the students at the time of data collection. Results:Most of the student nurses scored lower in SI.However, they had an acceptable level of empathy and a high level of selfesteem.A correlation was found between self-esteem and gender,as well as empathy and year of study. Conclusions:Our findings suggest that nursing students would benefit from improved SI skills.More work is needed to determine how best to incorporate these concepts into nursing curricula and create training programs for nursing students.

摘要Social anxiety (SA) is a prevalent mental health issue among adolescents, and vulnerable narcissism (VN) can exacerbate thiscondition. Thisstudy confirms the mediating role of both self-concept clarity and self-esteem in explaining how vulnerable narcissisminfluences social anxiety, providing valuable insights into its underlying mechanism.
摘要Background:With the development of information technology, mobile phone has brought much convenience to people’s lives but also caused many negative consequences due to excessive use, such as mobile phone addiction and nomophobia.Previous studies have explored the relationship between the Big Five Personality and proble-matic mobile phone use(PMPU).However, they focus on mobile phone addiction.Although there is a correlation between nomophobia and mobile phone addiction, the psychological structure is different. Therefore,it is neces-sary to explore the relationship between personality and nomophobia and the underlying mechanism. This study aims to examine the relationship between Big Five Personality and nomophobia, then construct a moderated mediation model to explore the mediation effect of solitude between Big Five Personality and nomophobia,as well as the moderation effect of self-esteem.Method:Data from 678 college students(351 females,51.77%)were collected.Participants completed the Big Five Personality Inventory,Solitude Behavior Scale,Nomophobia Scale and Self-esteem Scale.Analyses were conducted via mediation and moderated mediation. Results:Structural equation models revealed that solitude mediated the relationship between neuroticism and nomophobia. The results showed that neuroticism positively predicted solitude, which in turn positively predicted nomophobia.Four types of solitude partially mediated the relationship between neuroticism and nomophobia. We also found that self-esteem moderated the association between neuroticism and non-self-determined solitude. It is note-worthy that high self-esteem cannot protect people from negative factors. However, because of its characteristics,it is easy to receive more social information, and people high in neuroticism are sensitive to negative social infor-mation.It may cause maladaptive behavior. Conclusion:Findings demonstrated a process through which neu-roticism relates to nomophobia and a context under which these relationships may have occurred.
摘要Adolescence is a crucial time period with especial vulnerability for development of mental health problems.Growing interest is focusing on the determinants of positive mental health in order to find the key concepts that could be influenced in the promotion of mental well-being of adolescents. In this study we aim to explore the relations between self-esteem,character strengths and experience of social inclusion as determinants of adolescents’positive mental health controlled for selected sociodemographic background factors. The study population(n=195)consisted of comprehensive school students who filled in an electronic questionnaire of adolescent’s mental well-being in Fall 2019.The questionnaire included measures of Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-being Scale(WEMWBS),VIA Youth-measure 96,Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and Experience of Social Inclusion Scale. The methods included group comparisons and General Linear Model computed by SPSS 24.0.The strongest association was found between positive mental health and self-esteem(β=0.789,p<0.001),followed by character strengths of hope and kindness and experience of social inclusion.Interestingly, family’s socioeconomic factors did not associate significantly with positive mental health in the final statistical model. In terms of our results,it seems that self-esteem,character strengths and experience of social inclusion might have stronger association with adolescents’mental well-being than family’s socioeconomic determinants. Therefore,it should be discussed whether psychological determinants overcome the individual effect of poor socioeconomic status as factors that influence positive mental health.Further studies are needed to establish these results more firmly.
