Toona fargesi A.Chev.,a versatile tree in the Toona genus of the Meliaceae family,is renowned for its exquisite timber and medicinal properties,offering promising benefits.Due to natural regeneration obstacles and long-term excessive exploitation,it has been threatened in China.Intriguingly,root sprouting,which may diminish the genetic diversity and hinder population development,dominates the reproductive pattern of T.fargesi in the wild.However,the lack of complete genome information has hampered basic studies on the regeneration,classification,evolution and conservation of this species.Here,we report the genome of T.fargesi,which was sequenced using the PacBio platform and assembled into a high-quality genome with a total size of 535.24 Mb.Of this,97.93%of the assembled contigs were anchored onto 28 pseudochromosomes,achieving a chromosome-level genome.The long terminal repeat assembly index score was 21.34,and the consensus quality value was 39.90%,indicating the accuracy and completeness of the genome.Comparative genome analysis suggested that a recent whole genome duplication event occurred between 22.1 and 5o.1 Mya in the Toona genus,with the divergence time between T.fargesi and its relative T.sinensis estimated at approximately~16.7 Mya.Additionally,13 TfARR genes,which play integral roles in root sprouting by mediating cytokinin signaling,underwent rapid gene expansion and showed significant enrichment in the plant hormone signal transduction pathway.Furthermore,transcriptomic analysis demonstrated that differentially expressed genes between root sprouts and nonroot sprouts were significantly enriched in the zeatin biosynthesis pathway,indicating that cytokinin regulation is involved in root sprouting development.Collectively,the findings provide valuable genomic resources for the Toona genus and genetic insights into the mechanisms of root sprouting in T.fargesii. 展开更多

Unmanaged wood waste,particularly in countries like Nepal,presents serious environmental concerns due to open burning and improper disposal,leading to carbon emissions,air pollution and land degradation.This study introduces an environmentally sustainable strategy to upcycle Toona ciliata wood scrap—an abundant and underutilized lignocellulosic biomass—into high performance carbon electrodes for green energy storage applications.Activated carbon(TCWAC)was synthesized via single-step pyrolytic carbonization followed by phosphoric acid activation,yielding a material with high specific surface area,hierarchical porosity,and excellent electrical conductivity.Electrochemical measurements using a three-electrode configuration in 6 M KOH revealed optimized potential windows of -1.0 to -0.2 V(TCWAC),-1.2 to 0 V(TCWAC-Mn),and -1.15 to -0.4 V(TCWAC-Fe).TCWAC exhibited a specific capacitance of 156.3 Fg-1at 1 Ag-1,with an energy density of 3.5 Whkg-1,and 80.2% capacity retention after 1000 charge-discharge cycles.Composites with MnO2and Fe2O3were also evaluated.TWAC-Mn delivered 489.4 Fg-1,25.1 Whkg-1,and 99.1% retention,whereas,TWAC-Fe achieved 321.3 Fg-1,6.3 Whkg-1,and 90.3% retention.The superior performance of MnO2is attributed to its multiple oxidation states,facilitating reversible faradaic redox and enhanced pseudocapacitance.This work offers the first direct,systematic comparison of MnO2and Fe2O3composites on a common biomass-carbon matrix under identical synthesis and testing conditions.The finding provides mechanistic insight into charge storage behaviour and demonstrate a scalable route for converting biomass waste into sustainable electrode materials,contributing to cleaner energy solutions and improved biomass valorization. 展开更多

The study of plant species abundance distribution(SAD)in natural communities is of considerable importance to understand the processes and ecological rules of community assembly.With the distribution of tree,shrub and herb layers of eight natural communities of Toona ciliata as research targets,three diff erent ecological niche models were used:broken stick model,overlapping niche model and niche preemption model,as well as three statistical models:log-series distribution model,log-normal distribution model and Weibull distribution model,to fi t SAD of the diff erent vegetation layers based on data collected.Goodness-of-fi t was compared with Chi square test,Kolmogorov–Smirnov(K–S)test and Akaike Information Criterion(AIC).The results show:(1)based on the criteria of the lowest AIC value,Chi square value and K–S value with no signifi cant diff erence(p>0.05)between theoretic and observed SADs.The suitability and goodness-of-fi t of the broken stick model was the best of three ecological niche models.The log-series distribution model did not accept the fi tted results of most vegetation layers and had the lowest goodness-of-fi t.The Weibull distribution model had the best goodness-of-fi t for SADs.Overall,the statistical SADs performed better than the ecological ones.(2)T.ciliata was the dominant species in all the communities;species richness and diversity of herbs were the highest of the vegetation layers,while the diversities of the tree layers were slightly higher than the shrub layers;there were fewer common species and more rare species in the eight communities.The herb layers had the highest community evenness,followed by the shrub and the tree layers.Due to the complexity and habitat diversity of the diff erent T.ciliata communities,comprehensive analyses of a variety of SADs and tests for optimal models together with management,are practical steps to enhance understanding of ecological processes and mechanisms of T.ciliata communities,to detect disturbances,and to facilitate biodiversity and species conservation. 展开更多

Chinese mahogany(Toona sinensis) is of considerable medical and economic importance, and its genome has been deciphered. However, the process underlying its polyploidy is unclear, and the chromosomal evolutionary trajectory is poorly understood. Here, by reanalysing the T.sinensis genome, we found evidence of a tetraploidization event(T. sinensis special tetraploidization, TST) that occurred approximately 15-17 million years ago(MYA) after the core eudicot-common hexaploidization(ECH or gamma) event. We characterized the synonymous nucleotide substitution rates(Ks values) of collinear genes and found that T. sinensis genes affected by the TST evolve at a slower rate than Acer yangbiense genes. Furthermore, we identified homologous genes related to polyploidization and speciation and constructed multiple alignments with different reference genomes. Notably, the significant balance of gene retention and loss characterized in the two TST-derived subgenomes suggests an autopolyploid nature of the TST. Moreover, we deduced the chromosomal karyotypes of the two subgenomes and identified 7chromosomal fusions that have shaped the T. sinensis genome;more information is available on a newly constructed karyotype platform(http://gffzze84c5b42976d4cd7hkkn60fo5ov9066no.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/Toona_sinensis/index.html). The T. sinensis genome preserves the ancestral chromosome structure of dicotyledons well and could serve as a good reference for understanding genomic changes in other Meliaceae and Sapindales plants. In addition, we verified that tandem duplication and the ECH have promoted the expansion of terpene synthase(TPS) genes;conversely, the TST seems to have inhibited expansion of these genes. This present effort has clarified the polyploidy events of the T. sinensis genome, filled gaps in the history of karyotype evolution, and laid a solid foundation for further genomic studies in the Meliaceae research community and beyond. 展开更多

The reasonable density of seedlings is key to cultivate high-quality seedlings and achieve the best seedling efficiency. The optimum density was 30 plants/m2 for the first class seedlings of biennial seedlings, and the optimum density of l and ll seedlings for production afforestation was 40 plants/m2. 展开更多

About 17 in 22 of clones were dominated by cortex rooting, accounting for the 77% of clones. There were 5 clones which occurred with both cal us rooting and cortex rooting during rooting process. The rooting efficiency index (REI) showed a positive correlation with the rooting rate. Under natural tem-perature condition, keeping moisture and shading, we found that the highest survival rate occurred in early June, September, and October. 展开更多

The results showed that for proliferation culture of Toona ciliate, the optimum basic medium was WPM, and the optimum medium was WPM + 6-BA 0.5 mg/L + IBA 0.05 mg/L. The proliferation coefficient reached 4.29. The optimum rooting culture medium was 1/2 MS + IBA 0.5 mg/L + NAA 0.5 mg/L with rooting rate of 100%. In the optimum rooting 'culture medium, the roots of T. ciliate developed neatly, and the seedlings grew well. 展开更多

In order to collect rainwater and resist drought to enhance the utilization rate of rainfall and water resources, through project rainwater harvesting measures, the total annual rainwater harvesting amount of the six greenhouses was calculated according to annual average precipitation 542.2 mm, up to 1 095.7 m^3. The upper natural slopes of cultivated land were as rainwater harvesting areas, and total annual rainwater harvesting amount was 49 242 m^3 on the mountain slopes with an area of 73.37 hm^2, while total water storage amount was 39 394 m^3 in theory, so it could meet water use for the irrigation of 26.28 hm^2 of T. sinensis land. To be convenient for rainwater harvesting, irrigation and supplying water to the water-saving cellars, one pert-cut and part-fill reservoir (which was 470 m^3 in volume) was built on the mountain slopes at the right rear of the greenhouses, and their altitude difference was 50 m. The reservoir was sealed and was built with reinforced concrete. Water-saving cellars were distributed in front and the middle and at the back of two rows of greenhouses, and they were connected with each other. The reservoir could supply water to the water-saving cellars and also collect water by mountain slopes, from the lower water-saving cellars or deep wells. Two rainwater hervesting ditches that were 1 650 m in length were at the lower edge of arable land in the upper reaches of slopes to intercept rainfall runoff and make it flow into channels and then the sedimentation tanks. The total annual rainwater harvesting amount of the reservoir and water-saving cellars was 1 222.5 m^3. 展开更多

Toona ciliate,which belongs to Toona of Meliaceae,is a rare and native timber species in China.However,little progress has been made in the cultivation of Toona ciliate.The height and diameter at breast height of Toona ciliata were assessed for fertilization cultivation techniques aged 1 year.Analysis of variance showed that there were significant differences on height among different treatments and replicates and the difference on diameter at breast height among different replicate was also significantly.Treatment with 200 g urea(N>46.5%)+60 g superphosphate(P2O5>12.0%)+100 g potassium chloride(K2O>60.0%)could improve the height and diameter at breast height of Toona ciliate.In summary,more fertilizer could not always improve the growth traits and the site location could affect the growth significantly,therefore more test trials should be carried out before diffusion. 展开更多

We used the cotyledons and cotyledonary nodes of Toona ciliata(Chinese mahogany)as explants to examine callus and adventitious shoot induction when exposed to different ratios of hormones.We also investigated the effects of seedling age,inoculation method,and genotype on the efficient regeneration of T.ciliata.The results showed that different genotypes exhibited significantly different callus induction efficiency.The cotyledons and cotyledonary nodes of 20-day seedlings inoculated onto MS medium with 0.5 mg/L 6-benzylaminopurine(6-BA),0.5 mg/L kinetin(KT)and 0.05 mg/L 1-naphthylacetic acid(NAA)achieved a greater regeneration rate than did other concentrations of cytokinin and auxin.The numbers of shoots per cotyledon and cotyledonary node explant were 7.33 and 6.67.The optimal inoculation method for cotyledons was that the distal end of the explants was placed in contact with the medium.The optimal adventitious shoot differentiation medium for cotyledon explants was MS medium containing 0.3 mg/L 6-BA and 0.2 mg/L NAA,producing a 3.4 cm height of shoot on average.This study established an efficient regeneration system for T.ciliata with cotyledons and cotyledonary nodes as explants. 展开更多

红椿是重要的乡土用材树种,开展制浆性能研究对产业加工利用具有重要指导意义。以建立在江西萍乡和云南景谷9个不同年龄的圆盘为制浆材料,选取混合样品开展用碱量筛选,优化制浆工艺后,对不同林龄和地点的材料开展制浆性能对比研究。研... 红椿是重要的乡土用材树种,开展制浆性能研究对产业加工利用具有重要指导意义。以建立在江西萍乡和云南景谷9个不同年龄的圆盘为制浆材料,选取混合样品开展用碱量筛选,优化制浆工艺后,对不同林龄和地点的材料开展制浆性能对比研究。研究结果表明:随用碱量增加有效碱随之增加,粗渣得率随之降低,用碱量在16%~21%时卡伯值均在10~15之间,18%用碱量获得最高细浆得率和粗浆得率,19%用碱量的细浆得率最低。不同年龄间,制浆性能最好的为15年,其有效碱较少,细浆得率最高,粗渣得率较少,卡伯值满足工业漂白需求。各参试制浆性能相关性表明:年龄越大粗浆得率虽然增加,但增加的只是粗渣部分,细浆得率反而降低;用碱量、有效碱和卡伯值与粗渣得率和粗浆得率均呈极显著和显著负相关;粗浆得率与细浆得率、粗渣得率均呈极显著正相关,表明细浆或粗渣得率越高粗浆得率越高。本研究为开展红椿煮浆制浆提供参考。 展开更多

采用盆栽试验研究了酸性紫色土、钙质紫色土和冲积土上生长的一年生红椿实生苗暴露在不同浓度Pb胁迫(0、200、450mg·kg-1和2000mg·kg-1)条件下的叶长、叶面积、生物量、各器官Pb含量特征和富集程度,并分析了红椿对Pb污染的... 采用盆栽试验研究了酸性紫色土、钙质紫色土和冲积土上生长的一年生红椿实生苗暴露在不同浓度Pb胁迫(0、200、450mg·kg-1和2000mg·kg-1)条件下的叶长、叶面积、生物量、各器官Pb含量特征和富集程度,并分析了红椿对Pb污染的耐性和转移效率。3种土壤下红椿都能生长,但相同浓度Pb胁迫下其在钙质紫色土中生长状况最佳,在冲积土中生长状况最差。随Pb浓度增大红椿叶片生长受到明显抑制,当土壤中Pb浓度在2000mg·kg-1时,其叶长和叶面积与对照差异极显著(P〈0.01);Pb胁迫使得红椿根茎比发生明显的变化,还加大其叶的凋落程度,同时整株生物量随着Pb胁迫浓度的增大呈极显著降低趋势(P〈0.01),但在土壤Pb浓度最大时其生物量仍达到对照的81.47%以上。红椿体内Pb含量与土壤Pb浓度成正相关(P〈0.01),其6个器官中细根Pb含量最高,粗根次之,而地上部分的Pb含量较低且差异不大。红椿耐性指数值在0.67~1.06之间,表现为随Pb胁迫浓度增大,其耐性呈下降趋势。红椿富集系数与转移系数都较小且小于0.3。这些结果表明,红椿能在Pb污染较严重的土壤中较好的生存,可作为Pb污染区域潜在的土壤修复树种。 展开更多

红椿为我国的濒危保护物种。以广西西北部红椿(Toona ciliata)主要集中地群落为研究对象,利用在隆林县、西林县和田林县的野外样地调查数据,分析广西红椿群落物种组成、多样性、结构及红椿更新特征。结果表明:广西红椿群落主要物种包括... 红椿为我国的濒危保护物种。以广西西北部红椿(Toona ciliata)主要集中地群落为研究对象,利用在隆林县、西林县和田林县的野外样地调查数据,分析广西红椿群落物种组成、多样性、结构及红椿更新特征。结果表明:广西红椿群落主要物种包括枫香(Liquidambar formosana)、苦楝(Melia azedarach)、银合欢(Leucaena leucocephala)、粗糠柴(Mallotus philippensis)、杜茎山(Maesa japonica)、马莲鞍(Streptocaulon griffithii)等。隆林县具有较高的科、属、物种丰富度,但乔、藤、草及总物种丰富度在3个地点间无显著差异;田林县和隆林县均在较低径阶和高径阶中具有较高的物种丰富度和个体多度,而西林县在低径阶中有较高的物种丰富度,但差异均不显著;红椿野生种群实生苗更新困难,在3个调查地点红椿实生幼苗平均仅为1.3株,在隆林调查点甚至未发现有更新的幼苗。因此,在保护红椿种群的同时,可适当进行红椿幼苗的人工补植。 展开更多

为了解镉(Cd)胁迫对红椿(Toona ciliata Roem.)生长及养分[碳(C)、氮(N)、磷(P)和钾(K)]吸收的影响,采用盆栽控制试验研究了不同浓度Cd处理[0(对照)、10、20、40、80、160 mg·kg-1]对其幼苗生长发育、生物量以及养分积累与分配... 为了解镉(Cd)胁迫对红椿(Toona ciliata Roem.)生长及养分[碳(C)、氮(N)、磷(P)和钾(K)]吸收的影响,采用盆栽控制试验研究了不同浓度Cd处理[0(对照)、10、20、40、80、160 mg·kg-1]对其幼苗生长发育、生物量以及养分积累与分配特征的影响。结果显示:与对照相比,红椿幼苗生长特性指数(如叶数、叶长、叶宽、根长及地径和株高)与根、茎、叶生物量随Cd浓度增加而降低,但低Cd处理(0.05)。随着Cd胁迫浓度增加,根、茎、叶中Cd浓度逐渐升高,且根大于茎;根K、茎K、叶K和叶N累积量随胁迫浓度增加呈先升后降,而根C、根N、茎N、根P和叶P累积量则逐渐降低。此外,茎C、叶C和茎P在低Cd处理时无显著差异,但较高Cd胁迫处理(≥40.00 mg·kg-1)则显著抑制并改变其累积与分配格局。红椿幼苗具有一定的抗Cd胁迫能力,但较高浓度Cd胁迫(≥40.00 mg·kg-1)显著影响了红椿幼苗的生长特性及其养分格局。 展开更多
