Alleviating the imbalance between urban and rural areas for regional coordinated development is an imperative response to the Sustainable Development Goal 10 of the United Nations.To track China’s urban-rural integra...Alleviating the imbalance between urban and rural areas for regional coordinated development is an imperative response to the Sustainable Development Goal 10 of the United Nations.To track China’s urban-rural integration progress and address the uneven issues in specific fields,this study constructed a novel seven-dimension index system of urban-rural integration,comprising free population mobility,efficient land transfer,interactive economic growth,highly-linked transportation,equal public services,joint environmental governance and unimpeded informatization between urban and rural areas.Based on a comprehensive measurement framework and multi-source panel data,we uncovered the spatial-temporal evolution of urban-rural integration in China’s 367 prefecture-level administrative units from 1980 to 2022.The results demonstrated that China’s urban-rural integration steadily increased from 27.51 to 57.35 with an average annual growth rate of 3.40%.Whereas,the overall urban-rural integration was relatively inferior in 2022,at the level of moderate integration whose proportion of China’s land area was 88.08%.The urban-rural integration level in eastern region and urban agglomerations was higher than that in mid-west and non-urban agglomerations.From the perspective of seven dimensions,interactive economic growth,joint environmental governance and unimpeded informatization made an obvious improvement and reached higher integration,while free population mobility,efficient land transfer,highly-linked transportation and equal public services maintained the stage of moderate integration in 2022.In the future,China should make targeted efforts for urban-rural integration in terms of population,land use,transportation and public services,and accelerate urban-rural common prosperity in the mid-west and economically underdeveloped areas.展开更多
The Chinese government’s common prosperity policy has inspired a series of rural development initiatives aimed at reducing income disparities between urban and rural areas.Zhejiang Province was designated as the firs...The Chinese government’s common prosperity policy has inspired a series of rural development initiatives aimed at reducing income disparities between urban and rural areas.Zhejiang Province was designated as the first demonstration zone in China’s pursuit of common prosperity.To explore the demonstration effect of rural development on narrowing the income gap between urban and rural areas,this study adopts the Theil index to measure urban-rural income disparity levels and explores spatial evolution patterns of the income disparity in 52 counties of Zhejiang Province,China from 2011 to 2020.The spatial Durbin model is also used to investigate the impact of rural development on the urban-rural income disparity.The results show that:1)Urban-rural income disparities have gradually narrowed.Moreover,income disparities across the province are spatially clustered from north to south.Narrowing the gap between mountainous and non-mountainous counties is imperative for resolving these spatial imbalances in the short term.2)Rural development reduces urban-rural income disparity levels and generates economic and technological spillover effects,as evidenced by the phenomenon where development in one county leads to reduced income disparities in neighboring counties.3)The technological innovation enhances the co-development of rural industries through technological diffusion effects,further strengthening rural development.Finally,enhancing the ecological environment synergizes with rural development to reduce urban-rural income disparities.The research results provide policy implications for narrowing the urban-rural income disparity and promoting common prosperity.展开更多
County-to-district conversion(CDC) has restructured the pattern of urban-rural development and influenced the allocation of resources by local governments as well as the urbanization process.However,the impact and mec...County-to-district conversion(CDC) has restructured the pattern of urban-rural development and influenced the allocation of resources by local governments as well as the urbanization process.However,the impact and mechanism of the CDC on China's urban-rural integration development(URID) are not yet clear.Using panel data from 52 county-level cities,districts,and counties in Jiangsu Province of China during 2005–2021,this paper constructed an evaluation system for URID and applied the multi-period difference-in-differences(DID) model to measure the impact of the CDC on URID and identify its primary mechanisms of action.The results demonstrated that the CDC has significantly fostered URID,though with pronounced regional heterogeneity.Specifically,while the CDC facilitated URID in the southern and central Jiangsu Province—regions characterized by high socio-economic development—it exerted a less significant impact in the comparatively underdeveloped northern Jiangsu Province.Mechanistically,the implementation of the CDC promotes equal regional development,enhances rural selfdevelopment capacity,improves environmental quality and living standards,and optimizes urban-rural land allocation and transport networks.Ultimately,this study clarifies the role of the CDC in China,provides insights for achieving URID,and offers a reference for other countries pursuing coordinated urban-rural development.展开更多
Public investment in the information and telecommunications technology(ICT)for rural basic education is crucial for promoting the sharing of highquality educational resources urban and rural areas and advancing educat...Public investment in the information and telecommunications technology(ICT)for rural basic education is crucial for promoting the sharing of highquality educational resources urban and rural areas and advancing educational equity.Utilizing data from the 2015 China 1%Population Sample Survey,this study evaluates the impact of the“Pilot Project for Modern Distance Education in Rural Primary and Secondary Schools”on educational equity.We analyze these effects through two lenses:the urban-rural education gap and inter-generational educational mobility within rural areas.Our findings reveal a dual effect:while a 100-yuan increase in per-student funding from the project narrows the urban-rural attainment gap by approximately 12.80%,it simultaneously diminishes relative inter-generational mobility within rural communities.Specifically,the correlation between the educational rank-orders of parents and their children increases by roughly 9.52%,suggesting a strengthening of educational persistence.To explore the mechanisms behind these divergent results,we conduct an analysis based on theoretical models of public education investment and human capital accumulation.The analysis demonstrates that although the project promotes overall human capital formation in rural areas,individuals from advantaged family backgrounds benefit disproportionately.This skewed distribution of benefits stems primarily from uneven improvements in educational quality resulting from the project’s implementation strategies.Heterogeneity analysis further indicates that females and children from wealthier households experience greater gains,while local fiscal preferences and managerial incentives influence the extent to which policy effects are realized.We conclude that while advancing rural distance education remains vital,policy focus should prioritize equitable fund allocation and the establishment of robust oversight mechanisms to ensure that educational informatics investments realize their potential for inclusive growth.展开更多

Based on panel data from 31 provincial administrative regions in China from 2011 to 2023,this paper employs the Peking University Digital Inclusive Finance Index to construct a fixed-effects model and empirically anal...Based on panel data from 31 provincial administrative regions in China from 2011 to 2023,this paper employs the Peking University Digital Inclusive Finance Index to construct a fixed-effects model and empirically analyze the impact of digital inclusive finance on the urban-rural income gap.Furthermore,it examines the underlying mechanisms through the lenses of innovation levels and urbanization processes,while conducting heterogeneity analysis from the perspectives of urbanization levels and regional disparities.The results indicate that the development of digital inclusive finance significantly narrows the urban-rural income gap.Robustness tests confirm that this conclusion remains valid after replacing variables,lagging explanatory variables,and adjusting sample ranges.Mechanism tests reveal that digital inclusive finance primarily narrows the urban-rural income gap by promoting regional innovation levels and driving the urbanization process.Heterogeneity analysis shows that the effect of digital inclusive finance in narrowing the urbanrural income gap is more pronounced in regions with moderate urbanization levels and in the eastern and western regions of China.This study provides empirical evidence for understanding the role of digital inclusive finance in promoting coordinated urban-rural development and offers references for relevant policy formulation.展开更多

Background:Cervical and breast cancers are among the top 4 leading causes of cancer-related mortality in women.This study aimed to examine age-specific temporal trends in mortality for cervical and breast cancers in u...Background:Cervical and breast cancers are among the top 4 leading causes of cancer-related mortality in women.This study aimed to examine age-specific temporal trends in mortality for cervical and breast cancers in urban and rural areas of China from 2009 to 2021.Methods:Age-specific mortality data for cervical and breast cancers among Chinese women aged 20-84 years were obtained from China’s National Disease Surveillance Points system spanning the years 2009 to 2021.Negative binomial regression models were utilized to assess urban-rural differences in mortality rate ratios,while Joinpoint models with estimated average annual percent changes(AAPC)and slopes were employed to compare temporal trends and the acceleration of mortality rates within different age groups.Results:From 2009 to 2021,there was a relative increase in age-specific mortality associated with the two cancers observed in rural areas compared with urban areas.A rising trend in the screening age of 35-64[AAPC:4.0%,95%confidence interval(CI)0.5-7.6,P=0.026]for cervical cancer was noted in rural areas,while a stable trend(AAPC:-0.7%,95%CI-5.8 to 4.6,P=0.780)was observed in urban areas.As for breast cancer,a stable trend(AAPC:0.3%,95%CI-0.3 to 0.9,P=0.280)was observed in rural areas compared to a decreasing trend(AAPC:-2.7%,95%CI-4.6 to-0.7,P=0.007)in urban areas.Urban-rural differences in mortality rates increased over time for cervical cancer but decreased for breast cancer.Mortality trends for both cervical and breast cancers showed an increase with age across 4 segments,with the most significant surge in mortality observed among the 35-54 age group across urban and rural areas,periods,and regions in China.Conclusions:Special attention should be given to women aged 35-54 years due to mortality trends and rural-urban disparities.Focusing on vulnerable age groups and addressing rural-urban differences in the delivery of cancer control programs can enhance resource efficiency and promote health equity.展开更多

This paper aims to explore the status quo of URED in China at prefecture level, and to reveal the spatio-temporal patterns of URED and its differentiation regularity. The results show that: (1) China's URED level can be categorized into two parts, i.e., the eastern and the western, according to the "HU Huanyong Line", presenting a pattern of "east high and west low" and the URED level improves on the whole with the increase of distance from the line; (2) China's URED level can also be categorized into the northern and the southern parts according to "Kunlun-Qinling-Huaihe Line", presenting a pattern of "north high and south low", and the URED level reduces on the whole with the increase of distance from the line; (3) At the national level, China's URED has a significant trend of spatial agglomeration, the high and low URED regions tend to be adjacent, namely, the URED level presents obvious regional unbalance; (4) The five sub-dimension indicators of the URED level in the geographical space also reveal similar regional differentiation pattern, and in the aspect of space a decreasing trend is found in the URED level from the eastern (northern coast, eastern coast and southern coast), the northeastern, the central (the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and the Yellow River) to the western (northwest and southwest); and (5) China's URED at prefecture-level city can be divided into five types of differentiation areas. This study contributes to promoting the integrative cognition of the status quo of China's URED and can serve as a scientific ref- erence concerning the decision-making of coordinating urban-rural development and of pushing forward new-type urbanization strategy in China.展开更多
Uneven urban and rural development is one of the main reasons for the decline of the countryside.This imbalance could be measured by the urban-rural difference index(URDI).Existing studies on urban-rural differences h...Uneven urban and rural development is one of the main reasons for the decline of the countryside.This imbalance could be measured by the urban-rural difference index(URDI).Existing studies on urban-rural differences have focused on single dimension between urban and rural areas,and lack a systematic multi-dimensional measurement.Based on the construction of an index system and model for measuring urban-rural differences,this study took the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain(HHHP)as the study area,explores the spatial pattern of urban-rural differences in the area,and used geographical weighted regression models to identify the factors affecting urban-rural development differences.Results show that the mean value of URDI in the HHHP was 0.295,and the URDI in its western region was higher than that in the east.The average URDI was relatively high in the western counties along the Beijing–Guangzhou Railway.The low level of urban-rural'population-land-industry'development in the HHHP is an important reason for the small differences between urban and rural areas.Improvements in road transportation infrastructure have led to an increase in the urban-rural development gap.However,the driving force of the road network on urban development is greater than that on rural areas.The role of county economic agglomeration is gaining strength.In the process of rapid economic development,more attention should be paid to the development of the rural economy and the overall revitalization of the countryside.The equivalent allocation of social service facilities is an effective way to solve the problem of urban-rural imbalance.Further analysis demonstrated that terrain factors have relatively little influence on the URDI.This study provides a new perspective and measurement method for understanding the integration of urban and rural development,and provides a useful reference for guiding the urban-rural integration development and the rural revitalization.展开更多

The results showed that:(1) within the scope of a 2 km-range buffer zone, with a low degree of heterogeneity, land for construction use and water area were the dominant land-use types, while with a high degree of fragmentation, cultivated land, wooded land, grassland, garden land, land for other farm uses, and land unused were scattered;(2) the 250-m square moving window could well detect the change characteristics of landscape pattern on both sides of the road;(3) the gradient analysis of landscape pattern in urban-rural integrated area, which was conducted with the aid of a 750-m transect on both sides of the road, indicated that there were significant differences between landscape indexes both in the urban-rural integrated area and on both sides of the road;(4) the road that had an obvious cutting and fragmentation impact on the landscape was an important factor leading to the increasing fragmentation and heterogeneity to regional landscapes.展开更多

The researchers can be divided into two schools according to their emphasis. One emphasizes particularly the urban development, and the other pays attention to the urban-rural income gap. However, there is a very strong association between urbanization rate and urban-rural inequality. As far as it goes, there is a paradox between urbanization and urban-rural inequality in China. This main reason lies' in the different temporal and spatial scales chosen by the scholars. Making use of correlative analysis and wavelet method, this paper rethinks and sums up the commonly evolving characteristics and trends between urbanization and urban-rural gap from 1950s to now. There is an intensively positive correlation between urbanization and urban- rural consumption gap. In general, with the acceleration of urbanization, urban-rural gap of China has undergone three stages of cyclical fluctuations. The rapid urbanization results in the increase of urban-rural highly risky. In addition, the special stage of urbanization is the other reason that expands urban-rural gap.展开更多

In China, due to the urban-rural dual structure, these changes turn out to be more complicated. Spatial restructuring are suggested as the main strategies and spatial supporting platforms for urban-rural development. However, the theory still lacks solid methodology and support from systematic empirical studies. This study seeks an adequate scientific methodology and discusses the difference of urban-rural transformation in plains and mountainous areas. A case in Shanghang County, China, demonstrates: 1) The compound ecological niche model can be a suitable approach in urban-rural restructuring, especially in mountainous areas. 2) The urban-rural development area with highly inappropriate, slightly appropriate, moderately appropriate, and highly appropriate areas are 1273.2 km2(44.69%); 906.1 km2(31.80%); 509.4 km2(17.88%); and 160.1 km2(5.62%), respectively. 3) The "deserting villages" in mountainous areas play positive synergistic roles in urbanization, in contrast to the "hollowing villages" common in plain areas. 4) The central town-village will become the most important settlement in mountainous areas. Therefore, we suggest more attention should be paid to environmental capacity in the construction of central town-villages. This study significantly extends the understanding of "hollowing village" theory and regional planning.展开更多

Existing research has evaluated the extent of URI a...Urban-rural integration (URI) is a global challenge that is highly related to inequalities, poverty, economic growth, and other Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Existing research has evaluated the extent of URI and explored its influencing factors, but urban-rural linkages are seldom incorporated in evaluation systems, and geographical factors are rarely recognized as the influencing factors. We construct a URI framework including regional economy, rural development, urban-rural linkage, and urban-rural gap. Based on a dataset consisting of 1,669 counties in China in 2020, we reveal the spatial pattern of URI and find a high correlation between the spatial pattern of URI and the relief degree of land surface (RDLS). Using structural equation modeling, we discover that topography has direct ( − 0.18, p < 0.001) and indirect ( − 0.17, p < 0.001) effects on URI. The indirect negative effects are mediated through the infrastructure, and the combination of localized advantages and modern technical conditions could mitigate the negative impact of topography. Finally, we identify 742 counties as lagging regions in URI, which can be clustered into eight types. Our findings could facilitate policy designing for those countries striving for integrated and sustainable development of urban and rural areas.展开更多
Henan,China,is likely the most populous agricultural province worldwide.It is China’s major grain-producing area,with a continuously increasing population(96 million),which is greater than 93%of countries worldwide.H...Henan,China,is likely the most populous agricultural province worldwide.It is China’s major grain-producing area,with a continuously increasing population(96 million),which is greater than 93%of countries worldwide.However,this province has been experiencing unprecedented urbanization recently due to national policies and measures,such as a plan to build the capital city of Henan into a national center,resulting in severe conflicts in land use that endanger food security regionally and globally.To facilitate decision-making on this problem,we explored the detailed urban-rural development of Henan by modeling these land-use conflicts.Conventional modeling of a region’s urban-rural development is to navigate trade-offs(a)solely between different land-use types(b)by assuming that each type provides a single service(e.g.,croplands produce all the food),and(c)under a polynomial regression-based projection of population.In contrast,we considered both land-use type and intensity,resulting in a detailed land system for Henan.By introducing the concept of land system services(e.g.,food production),we established a many-to-many relationship between land system classes and services.These allowed us to carry out the most comprehensive modeling of Henan’s urban-rural development under eighteen combined scenarios of population growth and land-use policies on food production.The modeling results of these scenarios provide a solid basis for making decisions regarding Henan’s urban-rural development.We also revealed the influence mechanism of population growth,land-use policies,and their combinations,highlighting the benefits of securing food production by agricultural intensification rather than merely expanding the area of cropland.展开更多

摘要Promoting urban-rural integration and facilitating the bidirectional flow of urban and rural elements are core spatial objectives in the new era of China.The urban-rural fringe represents the region with the most intense interaction between urban and rural areas,serving as a key zone for breaking down barriers and promoting urban-rural integration.Based on a systematic review of representative case studies and scholarly literature,this paper synthesizes the evolving research perspectives on the urban-rural fringe,with particular attention to how data-driven approaches that integrate official statistics,remote sensing imagery,points of interest,and mobile phone signaling data have advanced the characterization of fringe features,refined identification methods,and revealed emerging developmental trends through spatial clustering and machine learning classification.It proposes an integrated analytical framework encompassing administrative boundaries,economic metabolism,social activities,material infrastructure,and the ecological environment.The paper further examines the characteristics and emerging development trends of urban-rural fringe areas and advances a set of strategic directions to support urban-rural integration and more efficient resource allocation.These include expanding analytical dimensions,enhancing data integration,refining identification criteria,elucidating mechanisms of internal and external interactions,and strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration.Collectively,these efforts offer actionable insights for optimizing public service delivery,directing infrastructure investment in transportation and utilities,delineating ecological conservation boundaries,and implementing place-based socioeconomic revitalization strategies in the urban-rural fringe regions.

摘要Alleviating the imbalance between urban and rural areas for regional coordinated development is an imperative response to the Sustainable Development Goal 10 of the United Nations.To track China’s urban-rural integration progress and address the uneven issues in specific fields,this study constructed a novel seven-dimension index system of urban-rural integration,comprising free population mobility,efficient land transfer,interactive economic growth,highly-linked transportation,equal public services,joint environmental governance and unimpeded informatization between urban and rural areas.Based on a comprehensive measurement framework and multi-source panel data,we uncovered the spatial-temporal evolution of urban-rural integration in China’s 367 prefecture-level administrative units from 1980 to 2022.The results demonstrated that China’s urban-rural integration steadily increased from 27.51 to 57.35 with an average annual growth rate of 3.40%.Whereas,the overall urban-rural integration was relatively inferior in 2022,at the level of moderate integration whose proportion of China’s land area was 88.08%.The urban-rural integration level in eastern region and urban agglomerations was higher than that in mid-west and non-urban agglomerations.From the perspective of seven dimensions,interactive economic growth,joint environmental governance and unimpeded informatization made an obvious improvement and reached higher integration,while free population mobility,efficient land transfer,highly-linked transportation and equal public services maintained the stage of moderate integration in 2022.In the future,China should make targeted efforts for urban-rural integration in terms of population,land use,transportation and public services,and accelerate urban-rural common prosperity in the mid-west and economically underdeveloped areas.

摘要The Chinese government’s common prosperity policy has inspired a series of rural development initiatives aimed at reducing income disparities between urban and rural areas.Zhejiang Province was designated as the first demonstration zone in China’s pursuit of common prosperity.To explore the demonstration effect of rural development on narrowing the income gap between urban and rural areas,this study adopts the Theil index to measure urban-rural income disparity levels and explores spatial evolution patterns of the income disparity in 52 counties of Zhejiang Province,China from 2011 to 2020.The spatial Durbin model is also used to investigate the impact of rural development on the urban-rural income disparity.The results show that:1)Urban-rural income disparities have gradually narrowed.Moreover,income disparities across the province are spatially clustered from north to south.Narrowing the gap between mountainous and non-mountainous counties is imperative for resolving these spatial imbalances in the short term.2)Rural development reduces urban-rural income disparity levels and generates economic and technological spillover effects,as evidenced by the phenomenon where development in one county leads to reduced income disparities in neighboring counties.3)The technological innovation enhances the co-development of rural industries through technological diffusion effects,further strengthening rural development.Finally,enhancing the ecological environment synergizes with rural development to reduce urban-rural income disparities.The research results provide policy implications for narrowing the urban-rural income disparity and promoting common prosperity.

摘要County-to-district conversion(CDC) has restructured the pattern of urban-rural development and influenced the allocation of resources by local governments as well as the urbanization process.However,the impact and mechanism of the CDC on China's urban-rural integration development(URID) are not yet clear.Using panel data from 52 county-level cities,districts,and counties in Jiangsu Province of China during 2005–2021,this paper constructed an evaluation system for URID and applied the multi-period difference-in-differences(DID) model to measure the impact of the CDC on URID and identify its primary mechanisms of action.The results demonstrated that the CDC has significantly fostered URID,though with pronounced regional heterogeneity.Specifically,while the CDC facilitated URID in the southern and central Jiangsu Province—regions characterized by high socio-economic development—it exerted a less significant impact in the comparatively underdeveloped northern Jiangsu Province.Mechanistically,the implementation of the CDC promotes equal regional development,enhances rural selfdevelopment capacity,improves environmental quality and living standards,and optimizes urban-rural land allocation and transport networks.Ultimately,this study clarifies the role of the CDC in China,provides insights for achieving URID,and offers a reference for other countries pursuing coordinated urban-rural development.

摘要Public investment in the information and telecommunications technology(ICT)for rural basic education is crucial for promoting the sharing of highquality educational resources urban and rural areas and advancing educational equity.Utilizing data from the 2015 China 1%Population Sample Survey,this study evaluates the impact of the“Pilot Project for Modern Distance Education in Rural Primary and Secondary Schools”on educational equity.We analyze these effects through two lenses:the urban-rural education gap and inter-generational educational mobility within rural areas.Our findings reveal a dual effect:while a 100-yuan increase in per-student funding from the project narrows the urban-rural attainment gap by approximately 12.80%,it simultaneously diminishes relative inter-generational mobility within rural communities.Specifically,the correlation between the educational rank-orders of parents and their children increases by roughly 9.52%,suggesting a strengthening of educational persistence.To explore the mechanisms behind these divergent results,we conduct an analysis based on theoretical models of public education investment and human capital accumulation.The analysis demonstrates that although the project promotes overall human capital formation in rural areas,individuals from advantaged family backgrounds benefit disproportionately.This skewed distribution of benefits stems primarily from uneven improvements in educational quality resulting from the project’s implementation strategies.Heterogeneity analysis further indicates that females and children from wealthier households experience greater gains,while local fiscal preferences and managerial incentives influence the extent to which policy effects are realized.We conclude that while advancing rural distance education remains vital,policy focus should prioritize equitable fund allocation and the establishment of robust oversight mechanisms to ensure that educational informatics investments realize their potential for inclusive growth.
摘要Taking Xuzhou in Jiangsu as the research object,this paper deeply explores the optimization path of prefectural-level financial resource allocation under the background of urban-rural integration development.Through the research on the current situation and practical strategies of financial construction in Xuzhou,this paper finds that financial resources can support urban-rural integration development by optimizing factor allocation,upgrading industrial synergy,and improving services and ecology.Innovative financial products proposed by Xuzhou,such as“Cold Storage Loan”and“Equipment Guarantee”,have shown effects in promoting the flow of urban-rural factors and industrial integration.However,the Xuzhou region is still facing problems such as weak rural financial infrastructure,insufficient coverage of inclusive finance,and obstacles to property right mortgage and circulation.In this regard,this paper puts forward multiple strategies to enhance financial support for urban-rural integration development,so as to provide reference for financial support for urban-rural integration development in similar regions in Jiangsu and even the whole country.
摘要Based on panel data from 31 provincial administrative regions in China from 2011 to 2023,this paper employs the Peking University Digital Inclusive Finance Index to construct a fixed-effects model and empirically analyze the impact of digital inclusive finance on the urban-rural income gap.Furthermore,it examines the underlying mechanisms through the lenses of innovation levels and urbanization processes,while conducting heterogeneity analysis from the perspectives of urbanization levels and regional disparities.The results indicate that the development of digital inclusive finance significantly narrows the urban-rural income gap.Robustness tests confirm that this conclusion remains valid after replacing variables,lagging explanatory variables,and adjusting sample ranges.Mechanism tests reveal that digital inclusive finance primarily narrows the urban-rural income gap by promoting regional innovation levels and driving the urbanization process.Heterogeneity analysis shows that the effect of digital inclusive finance in narrowing the urbanrural income gap is more pronounced in regions with moderate urbanization levels and in the eastern and western regions of China.This study provides empirical evidence for understanding the role of digital inclusive finance in promoting coordinated urban-rural development and offers references for relevant policy formulation.

摘要Background:Cervical and breast cancers are among the top 4 leading causes of cancer-related mortality in women.This study aimed to examine age-specific temporal trends in mortality for cervical and breast cancers in urban and rural areas of China from 2009 to 2021.Methods:Age-specific mortality data for cervical and breast cancers among Chinese women aged 20-84 years were obtained from China’s National Disease Surveillance Points system spanning the years 2009 to 2021.Negative binomial regression models were utilized to assess urban-rural differences in mortality rate ratios,while Joinpoint models with estimated average annual percent changes(AAPC)and slopes were employed to compare temporal trends and the acceleration of mortality rates within different age groups.Results:From 2009 to 2021,there was a relative increase in age-specific mortality associated with the two cancers observed in rural areas compared with urban areas.A rising trend in the screening age of 35-64[AAPC:4.0%,95%confidence interval(CI)0.5-7.6,P=0.026]for cervical cancer was noted in rural areas,while a stable trend(AAPC:-0.7%,95%CI-5.8 to 4.6,P=0.780)was observed in urban areas.As for breast cancer,a stable trend(AAPC:0.3%,95%CI-0.3 to 0.9,P=0.280)was observed in rural areas compared to a decreasing trend(AAPC:-2.7%,95%CI-4.6 to-0.7,P=0.007)in urban areas.Urban-rural differences in mortality rates increased over time for cervical cancer but decreased for breast cancer.Mortality trends for both cervical and breast cancers showed an increase with age across 4 segments,with the most significant surge in mortality observed among the 35-54 age group across urban and rural areas,periods,and regions in China.Conclusions:Special attention should be given to women aged 35-54 years due to mortality trends and rural-urban disparities.Focusing on vulnerable age groups and addressing rural-urban differences in the delivery of cancer control programs can enhance resource efficiency and promote health equity.

摘要Integrated urban-rural development is a crucial stage in the development of China’s urban-rural relations and is essential for Chinese modernization.In the digital era,the cultural tourism industry has the potential to promote integrated urban-rural development through multidimensional integration mechanisms,including cultural exchanges,resource sharing,and industrial linkages.Specifically,by innovating cultural tourism development models,the efficiency of labor allocation between urban and rural areas can be improved,fostering the transformation of rural cultural tourism and its related industries.By expanding the cultural tourism scenarios,new spaces for rural cultural consumption can be constructed,which would help to reduce urban and rural consumption disparities.By establishing cultural tourism development platforms and facilitating the sharing of data elements,the coordinated development of urban and rural public cultural services can be promoted,which would reduce the service gaps between urban and rural areas.By leveraging smart city construction to drive the development of the rural digital infrastructure,integrated urban-rural development,guided by a“digital+”approach,can then be fostered and help to reduce urban and rural development gaps.Building on this foundation,the digital transformation of cultural tourism will advance industrial linkages,resource sharing,factor mobility,and spatial co-creation within urban and rural cultural tourism,gradually realizing integrated urban-rural development and ultimately driving rural revitalization and fostering common prosperity.

摘要Integrated urban-rural development is an inevitable choice for promoting Chinese modernization.High-quality integrated urban-rural development is essentially a practical response to the current multi-factor and multi-sectoral challenges in urban-rural relations,and plays an important role in implementing the new development philosophy,which promotes Chinese modernization.The theoretical logic supporting the function it plays in enabling Chinese modernization lies in the following aspects:it leverages the free flow of population and resources between urban and rural areas and thus facilitates the balanced development of China’s modernization;it advances the common prosperity of all people through its new type of urban-rural and industrial-agricultural relations;it fosters the coordinated development of the material and spiritual civilizations through the integration of urban and rural cultures;it promotes steering the modernization toward green development through the joint building and managing of the overall urban-rural ecosystem;and it drives modernization in a harmonious and stable direction through integrated urban-rural development.Currently,integrated urban-rural development still faces challenges such as restrictions on the two-way flow of factors,the low efficiency of industrial coordination and support,unequal access to public service facilities,and the insufficient use of land.Therefore,based on the strategic framework of urban-rural integrated development,it is necessary to continuously promote Chinese modernization through high-quality integrated urban-rural development from the perspectives of deepening institutional coordination,expanding the application of digital intelligence in urban and rural industries,optimizing public services,and improving land management.

摘要The urban-rural equalized development (URED) as a definite measure and operating model is beneficial to gradually eliminating the dual-track structure of urban-rural development, bridging the gap of urban-rural development, and creating harmonious urban-rural interactions. This paper aims to explore the status quo of URED in China at prefecture level, and to reveal the spatio-temporal patterns of URED and its differentiation regularity. The results show that: (1) China's URED level can be categorized into two parts, i.e., the eastern and the western, according to the "HU Huanyong Line", presenting a pattern of "east high and west low" and the URED level improves on the whole with the increase of distance from the line; (2) China's URED level can also be categorized into the northern and the southern parts according to "Kunlun-Qinling-Huaihe Line", presenting a pattern of "north high and south low", and the URED level reduces on the whole with the increase of distance from the line; (3) At the national level, China's URED has a significant trend of spatial agglomeration, the high and low URED regions tend to be adjacent, namely, the URED level presents obvious regional unbalance; (4) The five sub-dimension indicators of the URED level in the geographical space also reveal similar regional differentiation pattern, and in the aspect of space a decreasing trend is found in the URED level from the eastern (northern coast, eastern coast and southern coast), the northeastern, the central (the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and the Yellow River) to the western (northwest and southwest); and (5) China's URED at prefecture-level city can be divided into five types of differentiation areas. This study contributes to promoting the integrative cognition of the status quo of China's URED and can serve as a scientific ref- erence concerning the decision-making of coordinating urban-rural development and of pushing forward new-type urbanization strategy in China.

摘要Uneven urban and rural development is one of the main reasons for the decline of the countryside.This imbalance could be measured by the urban-rural difference index(URDI).Existing studies on urban-rural differences have focused on single dimension between urban and rural areas,and lack a systematic multi-dimensional measurement.Based on the construction of an index system and model for measuring urban-rural differences,this study took the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain(HHHP)as the study area,explores the spatial pattern of urban-rural differences in the area,and used geographical weighted regression models to identify the factors affecting urban-rural development differences.Results show that the mean value of URDI in the HHHP was 0.295,and the URDI in its western region was higher than that in the east.The average URDI was relatively high in the western counties along the Beijing–Guangzhou Railway.The low level of urban-rural'population-land-industry'development in the HHHP is an important reason for the small differences between urban and rural areas.Improvements in road transportation infrastructure have led to an increase in the urban-rural development gap.However,the driving force of the road network on urban development is greater than that on rural areas.The role of county economic agglomeration is gaining strength.In the process of rapid economic development,more attention should be paid to the development of the rural economy and the overall revitalization of the countryside.The equivalent allocation of social service facilities is an effective way to solve the problem of urban-rural imbalance.Further analysis demonstrated that terrain factors have relatively little influence on the URDI.This study provides a new perspective and measurement method for understanding the integration of urban and rural development,and provides a useful reference for guiding the urban-rural integration development and the rural revitalization.
摘要In the context of the rapid development of the digital economy,the gig economy,as a novel form of employment,is profoundly influencing the structure and operational mechanisms of urban-rural labor markets.This paper,by reviewing relevant domestic and international studies and employing methods of literature review and comparative analysis,explores the relationship between the gig economy and the urban-rural gap.The study first reviews the evolutionary process of the gig economy concept and its primary features.Subsequently,from an empirical perspective,it summarizes the multifaceted impacts of the gig economy on urban-rural income disparities,employment structures,and regional coordinated development.Overall,most scholars regard the gig economy as a“springboard”for regional development and narrowing income gaps,while another group warns of the potential skill solidification trap it may bring.Existing research still shows discrepancies in explaining the impact mechanisms.Future studies can expand the dimensions of urban-rural gap analysis,improve the precision of causal identification,and strengthen comparative research across regions and internationally,thereby providing more robust support for refining the theoretical framework and policy system of the gig economy.

摘要The urban-rural integrated area in Sanshui District of Foshan City was selected for research, and the impact of landscape pattern around the No.269 provincial highway was analyzed based on the land-use data in 2014 using the spatial analysis in GIS and the moving window method. The results showed that:(1) within the scope of a 2 km-range buffer zone, with a low degree of heterogeneity, land for construction use and water area were the dominant land-use types, while with a high degree of fragmentation, cultivated land, wooded land, grassland, garden land, land for other farm uses, and land unused were scattered;(2) the 250-m square moving window could well detect the change characteristics of landscape pattern on both sides of the road;(3) the gradient analysis of landscape pattern in urban-rural integrated area, which was conducted with the aid of a 750-m transect on both sides of the road, indicated that there were significant differences between landscape indexes both in the urban-rural integrated area and on both sides of the road;(4) the road that had an obvious cutting and fragmentation impact on the landscape was an important factor leading to the increasing fragmentation and heterogeneity to regional landscapes.

摘要Urban-rural interaction and conjunctionaldevelopment is the effective way of harmonizingurban-rural relationship and promoting urban-ruraldevelopment.However,there are differences in thelevel of urban-rural interaction and conjunctionaldevelopment of China.How to measure and reflectthe difference properly is a decision-makingfoundation for optimizing urban-rural developmentof different regions.The paper employs multiplemethods to evaluate and order the urban-ruralinteraction and conjunctional development of 31provinces(municipalities)in China.Kendall’s Wconsistency coefficient is employed to give a consistenttest for the evaluation result series,and the resultsof multiple methods are aggregated as the finalevaluation value.The results reflect the level ofregional urban-rural interaction and conjunctionaldevelopment in China.
摘要There are two important problems of urban-rural relationship in China nowadays: the accelerated urbanization process and an enlarged urban-rural gap. The researchers can be divided into two schools according to their emphasis. One emphasizes particularly the urban development, and the other pays attention to the urban-rural income gap. However, there is a very strong association between urbanization rate and urban-rural inequality. As far as it goes, there is a paradox between urbanization and urban-rural inequality in China. This main reason lies' in the different temporal and spatial scales chosen by the scholars. Making use of correlative analysis and wavelet method, this paper rethinks and sums up the commonly evolving characteristics and trends between urbanization and urban-rural gap from 1950s to now. There is an intensively positive correlation between urbanization and urban- rural consumption gap. In general, with the acceleration of urbanization, urban-rural gap of China has undergone three stages of cyclical fluctuations. The rapid urbanization results in the increase of urban-rural highly risky. In addition, the special stage of urbanization is the other reason that expands urban-rural gap.

摘要With the socio-economic development associated with urbanization, the urban-rural relationship has changed across the world. In China, due to the urban-rural dual structure, these changes turn out to be more complicated. Spatial restructuring are suggested as the main strategies and spatial supporting platforms for urban-rural development. However, the theory still lacks solid methodology and support from systematic empirical studies. This study seeks an adequate scientific methodology and discusses the difference of urban-rural transformation in plains and mountainous areas. A case in Shanghang County, China, demonstrates: 1) The compound ecological niche model can be a suitable approach in urban-rural restructuring, especially in mountainous areas. 2) The urban-rural development area with highly inappropriate, slightly appropriate, moderately appropriate, and highly appropriate areas are 1273.2 km2(44.69%); 906.1 km2(31.80%); 509.4 km2(17.88%); and 160.1 km2(5.62%), respectively. 3) The "deserting villages" in mountainous areas play positive synergistic roles in urbanization, in contrast to the "hollowing villages" common in plain areas. 4) The central town-village will become the most important settlement in mountainous areas. Therefore, we suggest more attention should be paid to environmental capacity in the construction of central town-villages. This study significantly extends the understanding of "hollowing village" theory and regional planning.

摘要Urban-rural integration (URI) is a global challenge that is highly related to inequalities, poverty, economic growth, and other Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Existing research has evaluated the extent of URI and explored its influencing factors, but urban-rural linkages are seldom incorporated in evaluation systems, and geographical factors are rarely recognized as the influencing factors. We construct a URI framework including regional economy, rural development, urban-rural linkage, and urban-rural gap. Based on a dataset consisting of 1,669 counties in China in 2020, we reveal the spatial pattern of URI and find a high correlation between the spatial pattern of URI and the relief degree of land surface (RDLS). Using structural equation modeling, we discover that topography has direct ( − 0.18, p < 0.001) and indirect ( − 0.17, p < 0.001) effects on URI. The indirect negative effects are mediated through the infrastructure, and the combination of localized advantages and modern technical conditions could mitigate the negative impact of topography. Finally, we identify 742 counties as lagging regions in URI, which can be clustered into eight types. Our findings could facilitate policy designing for those countries striving for integrated and sustainable development of urban and rural areas.

摘要Henan,China,is likely the most populous agricultural province worldwide.It is China’s major grain-producing area,with a continuously increasing population(96 million),which is greater than 93%of countries worldwide.However,this province has been experiencing unprecedented urbanization recently due to national policies and measures,such as a plan to build the capital city of Henan into a national center,resulting in severe conflicts in land use that endanger food security regionally and globally.To facilitate decision-making on this problem,we explored the detailed urban-rural development of Henan by modeling these land-use conflicts.Conventional modeling of a region’s urban-rural development is to navigate trade-offs(a)solely between different land-use types(b)by assuming that each type provides a single service(e.g.,croplands produce all the food),and(c)under a polynomial regression-based projection of population.In contrast,we considered both land-use type and intensity,resulting in a detailed land system for Henan.By introducing the concept of land system services(e.g.,food production),we established a many-to-many relationship between land system classes and services.These allowed us to carry out the most comprehensive modeling of Henan’s urban-rural development under eighteen combined scenarios of population growth and land-use policies on food production.The modeling results of these scenarios provide a solid basis for making decisions regarding Henan’s urban-rural development.We also revealed the influence mechanism of population growth,land-use policies,and their combinations,highlighting the benefits of securing food production by agricultural intensification rather than merely expanding the area of cropland.
