We performed femtosecond time-resolved coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (fs-CARS) measurements on liquid toluene and PVK film. For both samples, we selectively excited the CH stretching vibrational modes and observed the expected quantum beat signals. The frequency of the well-defined beats is in good agreement with the energy difference between the two simultaneously excited modes, which demonstrates that a coherent coupling between the vibrational modes of the C H chemical bonds exists at the different positions of the molecules. The dephasing times of the excited modes are obtained simultaneously. 展开更多

The models of stress corrosion, pressure solution and flee-face dissolution/precipitation were introduced. Taking a hypothetical nuclear waste repository in an unsaturated dual-porosity rock mass as the calculation objective, four cases were designed 1) the fracture aperture is a function of stress corrosion, pressure solution and free-face dissolution/precipitation; 2) the fracture aperture changes with stress corrosion and pressure solution; 3) the fracture aperture changes with pressure solution and free-face dissolution/precipitation; 4) the fracture aperture is only a function of pressure solution, and the matrix porosity is also a function of stress in these four cases. Then, the corresponding two-dimensional FEM analyses for the coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical processes were carried out. The results show that the effects of stress corrosion are more prominent than those of pressure solution and free-face dissolution/precipitation, and the fracture aperture and relevant permeability caused by the stress corrosion arc only about 1/5 and 1/1000 of the corresponding values created by the pressure solution and free-face dissolution/precipitation, respectively Under the action of temperature field from released heat, the negative pore and fracture pressures in the computation domain rise continuously, and are inversely proportional to the sealing of fracture aperture. The vector fields of flow velocity of fracture water in the cases with and without considering stress corrosion are obviously different. The differences between the magnitudes and distributions of stresses within the rock mass are very small in all cases. 展开更多

The model of pressure solution for granular aggregate was introduced into the FEM code for analysis of thermo-hydro- mechanical (T-H-M) coupling in porous medium. Aiming at a hypothetical nuclear waste repository in an unsaturated quartz rock mass, two computation conditions were designed: 1) the porosity and the permeability of rock mass are fimctions of pressure solution; 2) the porosity and the permeability are constants. Then the corresponding numerical simulations for a disposal period of 4 a were carried out, and the states of temperatures, porosities and permeabilities, pore pressures, flow velocities and stresses in the rock mass were investigated. The results show that at the end of the calculation in Case 1, pressure solution makes the porosities and the permeabilities decrease to 10%-45% and 0.05%-1.4% of their initial values, respectively. Under the action of the release heat of nuclear waste, the negative pore pressures both in Case 1 and Case 2 are 1.2-1.4 and 1.01-l.06 times of the initial values, respectively. So, the former represents an obvious effect of pressure solution. The magnitudes and distributions of stresses within the rock mass in the two calculation cases are the same. 展开更多

A coupled numerical calculation method combining smooth particle hydrodynamics(SPH)and the finite element method(FEM)was implemented to investigate the seismic response of horizontal storage tanks.Anumericalmodel of a horizontal storage tank featuring a free liquid surface under seismic action was constructed using the SPH–FEM coupling method. The stored liquid was discretized using SPH particles, while the tank and supports were discretized using the FEM.The interaction between the stored liquid and the tank was simulated by using the meshless particle contact method. Then, the numerical simulation results were compared and analyzed against seismic simulation shaking table test data to validate the method.Subsequently,a series of numerical models, considering different liquid storage volumes and seismic effects, were constructed to obtain time history data of base shear and top center displacement, which revealed the seismic performance of horizontal storage tanks.Numerical simulation results and experimental data showed good agreement, with an error rate of less than 18.85%.And this conformity signifies the rationality of the SPH-FEM coupling method. The base shear and top center displacement values obtained by the coupled SPH-FEM method were only 53.3% to 69.1% of those calculated by the equivalent mass method employed in the current code.As the stored liquid volume increased, the seismic response of the horizontal storage tank exhibited a gradual upward trend, with the seismic response increasing from 73% to 388% for every 35% increase in stored liquid volume. The maximum von Mises stress of the tank and the supports remained below the steel yield strength during the earthquake. The coupled SPH-FEM method holds certain advantages in studying the seismic problems of tanks with complex structural forms, particularly due to the representation of the flow field distribution during earthquakes by involving reservoir fluid participation. 展开更多

The coupling iteration (CI) of the finite element method(FEM) is used to simulate the magnetic and mechanical characteristics for a GMM actuator. The convergent ability under different prestress and different load types is investigated. Then the calculated deformations are compared with the experimental values. The results convince that the CI of FEM is suitable for the simulation of energy coupling and transformation mechanism of the GMM. Multilayer structures composed of quasi-zero-stiffness(QZS)units exhibit mechanical characteristics distinct from those of a single unit, and their behaviors are governed by the coupling mechanism between the QZS units. This paper introduces the coupling coefficient to quantitatively describe this mechanism, classifying the system into strongly coupled and weakly coupled states.Through theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, and experimental testing, the static and dynamic responses under different coupling states are comparatively investigated. The results show that in the strongly coupled system, the deformation behavior of each QZS unit shows high consistency, leading to a wider QZS region, weaker nonlinear characteristics, and stronger dynamic response. In the weakly coupled systems, the low degree of deformation coordinations among the units results in different QZS regions, enabling low-frequency vibration isolation under varying loads. The analytical approach of the coupling mechanisms and the static and dynamic response behaviors generated by the two coupling mechanisms provide guidance for the structural design of multifunctional and highly adaptable multi-level QZS metamaterials. 展开更多

In this study, the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow through a circular pipe under the influence of a transverse mag- netic field when the outside medium is also electrically conducting is solved numerically by using FEM-BEM coupling approach. The coupled partial differential equations defined for the interior medium are transformed into homogenous modified Helmholtz equations. For the exterior medium on an infinite region, the Laplace equation is considered for the exterior magnetic field. Unknowns in the equations are also related with the corresponding Dirichlet and Neumann type coupled boundary conditions. Unknown values of the magnetic field on the boundary and for the exterior region are obtained by using BEM, and the unknown velocity and magnetic field inside the pipe are obtained by using SUPG type stabilized FEM. Computations are carried for very high values of magnetic Reynolds numbers Rm1, Reynolds number Re and magnetic pressure Rh of the fluid. The results show that using stabilized method enables us to get stable and accurate numerical approximations consistent with the physical configuration of the problem over rough mesh which also results a cheap computational cost. 展开更多

This study aims to promote the optimization and upgrading of the economic structure in rural areas of China by focusing on the coupling coordination mechanism between digital economy–agriculture integration and rural revitalization.By examining panel data from 30 Chinese provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities between 2011 and 2022,the research constructs a weight-based evaluation system that integrates subjective and objective methods and a coupling coordination model to reveal its dynamic evolution patterns.Key findings indicate that digital economy–agriculture integration and rural revitalization achieve cross-coupling through critical activities. The impact of digital-agriculture integration on advancing rural revitalization lags by 2–3 years.Although the coupling development degree between the two systems continues to improve,it remains at the stage of primary coordination.Regional disparities are significant, showing a gradient pattern of“high degree of coupling development in the east and low degree of coupling development in the west.” 展开更多

The compositional coupling between aboveground vegetation and soil seed bank is critical for community stability and successional trajectories, but such relationships are highly sensitive to environmental changes.Although nitrogen(N)deposition has been reported to decouple the associations between aboveground vegetation and the soil seed bank in grasslands,it remains unclear whether and how grassland management practices, such as mowing, mediate N deposition effects. We evaluated the impacts of N input and mowing on the diversity and composition of the aboveground vegetation and soil seed bank,as well as their compositional coupling in a decadal grassland experiment.N addition increased the compositional dissimilarity between the soil seed bank and aboveground vegetation by increasing abundance gradient, but only in unmown plots.N addition did not affect the compositional dissimilarity between aboveground vegetation and the soil seed bank in mown plots.Mowing increased the graminoid abundance in the aboveground vegetation, but increased the forb abundance in the soil seed bank, and thus increased the compositional dissimilarity between aboveground vegetation and the soil seed bank by promoting balanced variation in abundance. Our results reveal the importance of context dependence in the consequences of N inputs on the compositional coupling between aboveground vegetation and the soil seed bank in grasslands. The land-use context should be fully considered when evaluating the impacts of global change drivers on grassland community dynamics and succession. 展开更多

In this paper, the authors propose a method of three-dimensional(3D)magnetotelluric(MT)forward modeling algorithm based on the meshfree and finite element coupling method. The model is discretized by regular nodes in the central area, and the radial point interpolation method(RPIM)based on the global weakness is utilized to construct the meshfree shape function. The Governing equations in each background gird are solved by Gaussian integration. In the extended area where the points are sparsely distributed,to avoid the instability of the meshfree method, finite element method(FEM)with regular grids is used to solve the governing equation. Finally, the meshfree and finite element governing equations are coupled by the continuity of the field at the interfaces, and the direct solution technique is used to realize the 3D MT forward modeling.Numerical experiments of several typical electrical models are used to verify the effectiveness of the method. 展开更多

The dynamic evolution of fracture permeability presents a critical scientific challenge in rock masses.Understanding the mechanisms of rock mass permeability evolution is vital for engineering project design and operations.By integrating the discrete element method(DEM)with the finite element method(FEM),a numerical simulation framework for shear seepage in rough fractured shale has been developed to investigate the dynamic mechanisms of permeability evolution under varying confining pressures and during the shearing process.Numerical simulations were conducted on rough fractured samples under effective confining pressures ranging from 5 MPa to 20 MPa to monitor the aperture and permeability evolution of the fracture. The results of the numerical simulation are consistent with the experimental observations, indicating that both the shearing process and confining pressure significantly influence permeability. Moreover, the magnitude of the confining pressure is a crucial factor influencing the trend in permeability changes.Under a confining pressure of 5 MPa,fracture permeability initially increases significantly but decreases post-shearing.In contrast,a continuous decrease in fracture permeability is observed when the confining pressure exceeds 10 MPa.The results of the shear numerical simulation indicate that the confining pressure restricts fracture dilation during shearing, promotes the generation of rock debris, and decreases both the permeability and transmissivity of the fracture. The wear results obtained from numerical simulations are consistent with the experimental patterns and correlate with the joint roughness coefficient(JRC).This study proposed an effective numerical simulation method to reveal the evolution mechanism of fracture flow capacity, taking into account the wear of the fracture surface in shear simulations and the initial stress state of the rock in seepage simulations. This research explains the permeability evolution mechanism of fractured shale from a microscopic perspective, and the proposed numerical simulation method for shear seepage provides a powerful means to uncover the dynamic evolution mechanisms governing fracture permeability. 展开更多

The Element-Free Galerkin(EFG)method was originally developed for linear solid mechanics problems, using Moving Least Squares(MLS)approximations to construct shape functions for the numerical approximation of the displacement field and its variations within the weak form of the equilibrium equations.Over the past decades,it has evolved into a versatile meshfree framework applicable to a broad spectrum of engineering and scientific problems. This review provides a comprehensive account of the main advances in EFG,tracing its development from the original formulation and early challenges to the strategies devised to overcome them.Subsequent improvements in accuracy, stability, and computational efficiency are examined in detail, together with alternative shape function constructions such as Moving Kriging(MK)and Local Maximum Entropy(LME)approximations. The extension of EFG to multiphysics problems is discussed, emphasizing how analogies with the Finite Element Method(FEM)have enabled the adaptation of established stabilization and enrichment techniques.Hybrid FEM-EFG coupling strategies are also reviewed. The article concludes with a survey of significant applications in mechanics and transport phenomena, highlighting their broader implications in science and technology. 展开更多

This study presents an effective hybrid simulation approach for simulating broadband ground motion in complex near-fault locations. The approach utilizes a deterministic approach based on the spectral element method(SEM),which is used to simulate low-frequency ground motion(f1 Hz).A fourth-order Butterworth filter with zero phase shift is employed for time-domain filtering of low-and high-frequency time series at a crossover frequency of 1 Hz,merging the low and high-frequency ground motions into a broadband time series.Taking an Ms 6.8 Luding earthquake,as an example, this hybrid method was used for a rapid and efficient simulation analysis of broadband ground motion in the region. The accuracy and efficiency of this hybrid method were verified through comparisons with actually observed station data and empirical attenuation curves.Deterministic method simulation results revealed the effects of mountainous topography, basin effects, nonlinear effects within the basin’s sedimentary layers, and a coupling interaction between the basin and the mountains. The findings are consistent with similar studies, showing that near-fault sedimentary basins significantly focus and amplify strong ground motion, and the soil’s nonlinear behavior in the basin influences ground motion to varying extents at different distances from the fault. The mountainous topography impacts the basin’s response to ground motion, leading to barrier effects. This research provides a scientific foundation for seismic zoning, urban planning, and seismic design in nearfault mountain basin regions. 展开更多

Multilayer complex dynamical networks, characterized by the intricate topological connections and diverse hierarchical structures, present significant challenges in determining complete structural configurations due to the unique functional attributes and interaction patterns inherent to different layers. This paper addresses the critical question of whether structural information from a known layer can be used to reconstruct the unknown intralayer structure of a target layer within general weighted output-coupling multilayer networks.Building upon the generalized synchronization principle,we propose an innovative reconstruction method that incorporates two essential components in the design of structure observers, the cross-layer coupling modulator and the structural divergence term.A key advantage of the proposed reconstruction method lies in its flexibility to freely designate both the unknown target layer and the known reference layer from the general weighted output-coupling multilayer network. The reduced dependency on full-state observability enables more deployment in engineering applications with partial measurements.Numerical simulations are conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed structure reconstruction method. 展开更多

Based on the Smit-Suhl formula,we propose a universal approach for solving the magnon-magnon coupling problem in bilayer coupled systems(e.g.,antiferromagnets).This method requires only the energy expression, enabling the automatic derivation of analytical expressions for the eigenmatrix elements via symbolic computation, eliminating the need for tedious manual calculations.Using this approach,we investigate the impact of magnetic hysteresis on magnon-magnon coupling in a system with interlayer Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction(DMI).The magnetic hysteresis leads to an asymmetric magnetic field dependence of the resonance frequency and alters the number of degeneracy points between the pure optical and acoustic modes. Moreover,it can result in the coupling strength at the gap of the f–H phase diagram being nearly vanishing, contrary to the conventionally expected maximum. These results deepen the understanding of the effect of interlayer DMI on magnon–magnon coupling and the proposed universal method significantly streamlines the solving process of magnon–magnon coupling problems. 展开更多

Blast effects and energy transfer in near-ground explosions differ significantly from underground scenarios, particularly in terms of ground shock propagation and energy coupling mechanisms across various geological conditions. This study employs centrifuge modeling to simulate near-ground explosions in sandy soil, including surface explosions and airbursts. The focus was on blast-induced cratering, ground shock effects, and energy coupling in sandy foundations.Scaling laws for crater dimensions and ground shock parameters were established and validated based on experimental results. The"modeling of models"series showed good consistency in crater measurements, leading to an empirical formula for estimating crater radius in dry sand. For surface explosions, soil acceleration responses showed single peaks in the central zone(horizontal standoff distance<0.6 m/(kg)1/3)and dual peaks in the near-surface zone(0.79-1.2 m/(kg)1/3)due to combined effects of direct and airburst-induced ground shock.Empirical methods were developed to predict peak acceleration distributions in sandy foundations.Utilizing crater measurements and ground shock propagation laws,a computational approach for evaluating energy transmission in soil foundations was proposed. The study also developed prediction curves for ground shock energy coupling coefficients with scaled blast depth/height,providing a unified model for both underground and near-ground explosions in sandy foundations. The research findings can enhance the methodologies for simulating blast effects and offer a scientific basis for optimizing weapon effectiveness and protective engineering design. 展开更多

To accelerate the development and utilization of fusion energy, the China Fusion Engineering Test Reactor(CFETR)has been proposed as a bridge between the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor and demonstration fusion reactors. The primary objective of the CFETR is to achieve fusion energy transformation and tritium self-sufficiency,which is realized through the function of the blanket. In this study,a neutronicshermal-hydraulics/mechanics coupling method is developed and applied to a helium-cooled ceramic breeder(HCCB)blanket, which is one of the two blanket candidates for the CFETR.A three-dimensional full-scale model is utilized in the coupling analysis to obtain the distributions of the neutronic,thermal-hydraulic,and mechanical parameters.A structural assessment of the CFETR HCCB blanket is then conducted considering steady-state conditions and two transient scenarios. The results demonstrate that following optimization of the blanket structure, the maximum temperatures of the different components remain below the safety limit of the corresponding materials. The structural assessment indicates that the blanket maintains its structural integrity under steady-state conditions. However, immediately after an in-box loss-of-coolant accident, structural failure owing to stress concentration may occur.Additionally,in the early stage of a loss-of-flow accident, the stress at the joint point between the cooling plate and cap exceeds the allowable stress of the material, potentially leading to structural failure within 17 s if no protective response is implemented. These findings provide comprehensive insights into the performance and safety of the CFETR HCCB blanket design. 展开更多
