Africa is embracing new opportunities featured with industrialization,urbanization and regionalization.Based on co-development of‘Electricity,Mining,Metallurgy,Industry and Trade’and grids interconnection proposed by Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization(GEIDCO),the high-quality hydropower resource of the Congo River can be exploited in large scale under the wide-range interconnected framework of African Energy Interconnection(AEI),forging a new engine for Africa economy.The transmission distance of the Congo River hydropower reaches 6,000 km at its farthest end in North Africa,which brings forth challenges to economics of proposed projects.Under this novel continental energy interconnection scheme in Africa,economics of those projects have not yet been in detail studied.This paper has implemented China’s mature engineering experiences and analytical tools of UHVDC project planning into the AEI structure,through exploring the economic behavior of ultra-long distance UHVDC projects in the scope of conductor selection in the Congo River hydropower transmission for the first time,and has provided concerned parties with a technical and analytical results of their economics comparison.This paper has chosen the D.R.Congo-Guinea±800 kV UHVDC project as a typical example.Its preliminary system planning is introduced and three types of conductor are selected for scheme comparison.Later in this paper,the transmission loss,total investment and equivalent annual cost of the project have been calculated and analyzed.In the final part,sensitivity analysis results of the annual cost to utilization hours,transmission loss,loss tariff and construction cost has been provided. 展开更多

The results show that the net present value of the biodiesel-glycerol carbonate production by glycerolysis is higher than the biodiesel-glycerol carbonate production by direct carboxylationat at the end of the 12-year operation with similar capacities. The stochastic model has predicted that using glycerolysis route for the synthesis of glycerol carbonate production might increase the probability of getting positive net present value by about 15%. 展开更多

To reach at economic practicability of solar energy sources, Jordan needs to accelerate the development of the national photovoltaic projects. The economic and financial analysis of the 75 MW Photovoltaic Project for Jordan is presented in this paper. Comparing analysis considers, seven different scenarios regarding the type of the modules and of the mounting system as well as three different cases to further evaluate the effects of land requirements based on an equivalent installed capacity. Based on the analyzed scenarios, it was found that the project will serve as a "fuel saver", as the energy generated at the Jordan Photovoltaic Project replaces energy generated at the thermal plant with the highest variable costs in the grid. This replacement has it, which avoids the CO2 emissions associated with thermal generation, as the further advantage. 展开更多

Comparing civil law and common law systems for mergers and acquisitions An economic analysis 认领 引用

The main objective of this paper... "From the economic point of view, common law is more efficient than civil law." Is this recent statement published in an economic report valid for mergers and acquisitions (M&A)? The main objective of this paper is to compare the legal performance of M&A in France and in the United States. The purpose is to quantify the impact of both legal systems on the long-term performance of M&A transactions. To carry out this research, a specific methodology was developed and the results of which are evaluated. Two legal structures for M&A transactions were retained: the purchase of shares (share deal), and the purchase of assets (asset deal). Each of these acquisition structures was then subdivided into eleven steps composing the process, for example from preliminary information, letter of intent, due diligence, stock or asset purchase agreement, closing, to litigation with formal summons. Performance was then measured by taking into account time, cost, and satisfaction factors. The time factor was broken down into person-days and the number of days, weeks, or months required to complete each step. French and U.S. respondents were asked to fill out a questionnaire with reference to a specific acquisition project. A typical question was for instance: What is your estimate of working days to complete this step (person-days)? Radar charts were used to compare the mean of each performance factor. In order to check for correlations among the performance factors, an inter-factors analysis (regression) was carried out. The research findings are presented in this paper. Results show that a share deal in France is generally cheaper and participants indicate a significantly greater amount of satisfaction than in the U.S. However, for the time factor, the results vary. The conclusion is that the application of the civil code rather than common law does not reveal substantial differences as far as M&A transactions are concerned. One reason is that in both France and the U.S. these transactions are carried out following standard procedures in compliance with common contractual practices. 展开更多

This paper presents a techno-economic investigation of an integrated rooftop solar PV system for typical home applications in Oman that can reduce the power consumption from the grid and export excess PV generated power back to the gird.Since renewable energy systems design technically depends on the site,this study selects a typical two-story villa(Home),in a site Al-Hamra,Oman.Temperature is one of the critical parameters in this design as it varies widely over the day and from one season to another in Oman.With the effect of temperature variation,the PV system has designed using system models for the required load of the home.The design process has included two main design constraints,such as the available rooftop space and the grid-connection availability for the selected home.This research also evaluates the economic feasibility of the design system considering the energy export tariff as per the Bulk Supply Tariff(BST)scheme in Oman.The design outcome reveals that the designed PV system can supply the load energy requirement in a year.In addition,the rooftop solar PV system can sell surplus energy back to the grid that generates additional revenue for the owner of the system.The economic performance indices such as payback period,internal rate of return,net present value,and profitability index ensure the financial feasibility of the designed rooftop solar PV system for the selected home. 展开更多

Tilted solar stills are a promising option for sustainable water desalination,but their productivity is limited by low evaporation and condensation efficiencies.This study presents a dual-functional strategy for improving the performance of a modified tilted solar still using a mesh cotton wick to enhance water distribution and continuous surface wetting and a thermoelectric cooling tube to lower the condensing surface temperature and increase the condensation rate,thus increasing the overall system productivity.Tests were conducted in Yekaterinburg,Russia,under identical environmental conditions for both the modified tilted solar still and the conventional still.The results demonstrated a significant improvement in the modified system,with a 40%increase in freshwater production.The maximum daily production was 1.290 L/m2from the cooling channel and 0.615 L/m2from the glass cover,compared to 0.805 and 0.555 L/m2for the conventional system.Thermal efficiency reached 13%versus 9%for the conventional system.Economic analysis confirmed the system’s viability,with the cost of distilled water reduced to$0.0296/L,13.7%lower than the conventional system,while maintaining competitive costs at varying utility rates.These results demonstrate the effectiveness of the wick-thermoelectric cooling integrated approach in providing a low-cost,energy-efficient,scalable solar desalination solution suitable for arid and energy-limited regions. 展开更多

Fundamental research and economic analysis of hydrate-based carbon dioxide(CO2)sequestration play a key role in developing the industrialization of oceanic CO2 sequestration.Therefore,this review deals with recent progress in hydrate-based CO2 sequestration from the thermodynamics and kinetics as well as their energy consumption and cost.The first section provides an overview of the thermodynamics of CO2 hydrate formation in both pure water and sea water,establishing a relationship between the enthalpy change of the hydrate formation reaction and the hydrate structure.Subsequently,a comparison of the kinetics of CO2 hydrate formation in pure water and sea water is presented,with further insight into the formation kinetics obtained through hydrate nucleation and growth models.The process of liquid CO2 forming hydrates is summarized,serving as a critical part of the fundamental research for oceanic CO2 sequestration.Finally,energy consumption and cost of CO2 capture methods are compared,and the whole sequestration process cost of CO2 capture-storage-transport-injection is comprehensively analyzed.The new understanding of this review is conducive to further commercial and industrial development of hydratebased CO2 sequestration. 展开更多

Despite the advantages of high effluent quality and small footprint,membrane bioreactor(MBR)technology faces challenges in sustainable development due to energy consumption and membrane fouling.Weighing the advantages and disadvantages of MBRs requires a comprehensive assessment from techno-economic-environmental perspectives.In this paper,we reviewed the related research on MBRs from three aspects:economic cost analysis,environmental impact assessment,and comprehensive techno-economic-environmental assessment.The aim of this paper is to understand the sustainable development performance of MBRs,and to review the current status of the application of multiple techno-economic-environmental assessment methods in the field of wastewater treatment.The currently available results of the economic cost analysis of MBRs showed that the operating cost and energy consumption of MBRs are higher than those of other wastewater treatment processes if MBRs’potential benefit of smaller footprint is not taken into account.The results of the environmental impact assessment showed that MBRs have a positive environmental impact due to high quality effluent,although global warming potential limits the sustainability of MBRs to some extent.Combined techno-economic-environmental assessment showed that MBRs are economically feasible and technically efficient,while their sustainability is controversial.Given the rapid development of MBR technology,these results may evolve as new advancements are made.In addition,there is room for improvement in the existing literature regarding the reliability and comparability of results,as well as the applicability of the methods,particularly in defining the accounting scope,clarifying model assumptions,and considering discounting. 展开更多

The transition of the Chinese iron and steel industry to ultralow emissions has accelerated the development of denitrification technologies.Considering the existing dual carbon targets,carbon emissions must be considered as a critical indicator when comparing denitrification systems.Consequently,this study provided a comprehensive cost-benefit model for denitrification in the steel industry,encompassing additional carbon emissions resulting from the implementation of denitrification systems.Activated-carbon adsorption and selective catalytic reduction(SCR)systems are two efficient techniques for controlling NOx emissions during sintering.Based on thismodel,a cost-benefit analysis of these two typical systems was conducted,and the results indicated that the unit flue-gas abatement costs of SCR and activated-carbon adsorption systems were 0.00275 and 0.0126 CNY/m3,and the unit flue-gas abatement benefits were 0.0072 and 0.0179 CNY/m3,respectively.Additionally,the effect of operational characteristics on operating costs,including duration and material prices,was analyzed.When treating the flue gas,the two systems released 0.0020 and 0.0060 kg/m3 of carbon dioxide,respectively.The primary sources of carbon emissions from the SCR and activated-carbon adsorption systems are the production of reducing agents and system operations,respectively.Furthermore,considering the features of the activated carbon adsorption system for simultaneous desulfurization,a SCR-wet flue gas desulfurization(WFGD)technology route was developed for comparison with the activated carbon adsorption system. 展开更多
