Periodontitis is a chronic infectious oral disease triggered by periodontopathogenic bacteria,resulting in the progressive inflammation and destruction of the tissues surrounding teeth.To achieve reprogramming of the infectious microenvironment for periodontitis therapy,a nanoformulation was proposed by loading polydopamine(PDA)with ultrasmall strontium through in situ reduction and arginine by Michael addition,defined as PA.Combined with near infrared(NIR)irradiation,it could efficiently scavenge reactive oxygen species(ROS),and downregulate inflammatory factors expression through inhibiting NF-κB pathway.In addition,it also confirmed the effective bacteria killing in NIR stimulated PA by photothermal effects and nitric oxide(NO)generation.Significantly,PA+NIR was also verified to promote alveolar bone tissue repair through strontium ions(Sr2+)and NO induced angiogenesis,together with Sr2+mediated osteogenesis.The administration strategy was finally verified to alleviate the oxidative stress derived inflammation,suppress bacterial growth and biofilm formation,as well as promote bone regeneration with high efficacy and biosafety in the periodontitis rat models.All the above findings contributed to the NIR enhanced synergistic treatment of periodontitis,and it may serve as a promising strategy for the treatment of other inflammation related diseases. 展开更多

Nanotechnology has provided thousands of novel nano-antimicrobials possessing features uncommon in clinically available antimicrobials.Here,nanocarriers loaded with conventional antimicrobials and responding to environmental changes upon entry into oral biofilms are reviewed.Supra-gingival biofilms are characterized by acidic pH,the presence of bacterial enzymes,and the development of hypoxia in deeper layers.Sub-gingival biofilms are slightly alkaline,with hypoxia occurring over their entire depth.Upon entering biofilms,negatively charged,pH-and/or hypoxia-responsive nanocarriers become positively charged.This charge reversal leads to electrostatic double-layer attraction between positively charged nanocarriers towards negatively charged,waterfilled channel walls in biofilms,enhancing their accumulation in a biofilm.Degradation of bacterial enzyme-responsive nanocarriers causes in-biofilm release of antimicrobial cargo,yielding higher local antimicrobial concentrations than can be achieved through their direct,oral administration without harming soft tissues.Enhanced antibiofilm activity after in-biofilm antimicrobial release from biofilm-responsive micelles and liposomes has been demonstrated in vitro towards single-species Streptococcus mutans and Staphylococcus aureus biofilms or in vivo using specific-pathogen-free rodents inoculated with selected pathogens.This preferential antibacterial activity regulated the microbial composition of ex vivo human oral biofilm towards a more healthy microbiome composition.Although clinical confirmation is limited,the potential benefits of stimuli-responsive,antimicrobial-loaded nanocarriers for oral biofilm control and microbiome restoration are worth further investigation towards clinical translation. 展开更多

The development of efficient CO2 adsorbents is critical for achieving net-zero targets.MgO represents a promising solid adsorbent for CO2 capture,yet its limited specific surface area and insufficient active sites restrict its adsorption capacity under moderate temperature conditions.A rod-like anhydrous MgCO3 precursor was hydrothermally synthesized and calcined at 500℃ for 3 h to obtain porous MgO(184.9 m2g-1,0.38 cm3/g),which was then modified with 20% NaNO2(by mole) via impregnation.This adsorbent achieved an adsorption capacity of 12.6 mmol g-1after 120 min under a pure CO2 atmosphere at 325℃.Comprehensive characterization reveals that NaNO2 modification leads to the NaNO3 and Na2 CO3 formation on the MgO surface during calcination.The introduced NaNO3 effectively promotes oxygen vacancy formation,while the generated Na2 CO3 serves as heterogeneous nucleation sites,collectively reducing the reaction energy barrier and enhancing interfacial mass transfer.This synergistic effect facilitates the MgCO3 formation followed by its conversion to the thermodynamically more stable Na2Mg(CO3)2.Kinetic studies elucidate that adsorption is dominated by surface chemical reactions and diffusion mechanisms at different stages.These fundamental insights into the adsorption mechanisms of nitrite-modified MgO provide valuable guidance for the rational design of advanced MgO-based CO2 adsorbents with enhanced performance. 展开更多

This study investigates a high⁃loaded axial compressor in which flow instabilities in the rotor and the stator occur almost concurrently.Under these conditions,conventional stability enhancement methods prove to be ineffective.The paper proposes a combined rotor-stator flow control technique.This study reveals that the flow field deterioration stems from combined flow blockage at the rotor tip region and the near-hub region of the stator.Research on flow control methods finds that self-recirculating casing treatment can effectively improve flow capacity in the rotor tip region,but simultaneously reduce flow capacity in the near-hub zone.This makes the hub flow field more susceptible to breakdown and ultimately triggers compressor instability.Thus,the self-recirculating casing treatment fails to enhance stall margin.By contrast,hub suction significantly improves the hub-region flow field.Yet without suppressing the rotor-tip flow blockage,it achieves limited stability enhancement.The integrated solution combining self-recirculating casing treatment with hub suction simultaneously addresses flow blockage at both the rotor tip and the stator near-hub regions.This combined flow control method delivers effective stability enhancement,achieving 6.78%increase in compressor stall margin. 展开更多

Laterally loaded piles,which are commonly used in sandy stratum foundations,are particularly susceptible to necking defects during cast-in-place installation due to borehole collapse risks.These construction-induced geometric imperfections substantially compromise pile safety under lateral loading conditions.To address this critical design challenge,we develop a reliability-based multi-objective optimization framework that simultaneously accounts for structural safety,construction economy,and design robustness.The proposed methodology integrates the p-y curve(where p is the soil pressure per unit length,and y is the lateral deflection of the pile)analysis with stochastic modeling,enabling efficient evaluation of pile performance considering uncertainties in soil parameters and depth and size variations of necking defects.A systematic design framework is implemented and validated through experimental case studies,successfully generating optimal designs along the Pareto front.The identified knee-point configurations serve as practical compromise solutions for engineering decisions.Parametric investigations further elucidate the influence of necking defect depth and sand friction angle variations on optimal design outcomes,offering insights into risk mitigation for pile construction. 展开更多

Tooth cracks may occur in spiral bevel gear transmission system of the aerospace equipment.In this study,an accurate and efficient loaded tooth contact analysis(LTCA)model is developed to predict the contact behavior and time-varying meshing stiffness(TVMS)of spiral bevel gear pair with cracked tooth.The tooth is sliced,and the contact points on slices are computed using roll angle surfaces.Considering the geometric complexity of crack surface,a set of procedures is formulated to generate spatial crack and determine crack parameters for contact points.According to the positional relationship between contact point and crack path,each sliced tooth is modeled as a non-uniform cantilever beam with varying reduced effective load-bearing tooth thickness.Then the compliance model of the cracked tooth is established to perform contact analysis,along with TVMS calculations utilizing three different models.By employing spiral bevel gear pairs with distinct types of cracks as examples,the accuracy and efficiency of the developed approach are validated via comparative analyses with finite element analysis(FEA)outcomes.Furthermore,the investigation on effects of cracks shows that tooth cracks can induce alterations in meshing performance of both entire gear pair and individual tooth pairs,including not only cracked tooth pair but also adjacent non-cracked tooth pairs.Hence,the proposed model can serve as a useful tool for analyzing the variations in contact behavior and meshing stiffness of spiral bevel gears due to different cracks. 展开更多

A coal-loaded charge induction monitoring system is developed to effectively forecast the dynamic disasters caused by coal failure.Specifically,a digital finite impulse response(FIR)filter is designed to denoise and filter the signal,and the time-frequency domain evolution of induced charge signals is analyzed during coal failure experiments.The quantitative relationships between the induced electric charge and stress-strain energy,and ultimately,between induced electric charge and coal deformation/failure,are revealed.Ultimately,the electric charge sensor exhibits high signal collection frequency and high sensitivity,and the FIR low-pass filter constructed in MATLAB effectively denoises and filters induced charge signals.The main frequency range of the white noise is 50-500 Hz,and the main frequency of the charge signal induced by coal deformation and failure is concentrated in the range of 0-50 Hz.The optimal distances for monitoring cubic and cylindrical raw coal samples using this sensor are 9 mm and 11 mm,respectively.Notably,strain energy is released faster when it can dissipate more readily,and induced charge pulses become denser when more intense signals produce large fluctuations.A method is proposed to identify coal deformation and failure based on changes in the induced electric charge.This study provides a new means of monitoring the early warning signs of dynamic coal mine disasters.Based on our experimental results and conclusions,a new method is proposed to identify coal deformation and failure based on changes in the induced electric charge.The precursor to the moment of coal failure can be identified by monitoring the amplitude of the induced charge,the dynamic trend of fluctuation,and the cumulative number of induced electric charge pulses during the process of coal deformation. 展开更多

Borehole pressure relief helps prevent rock bursts.However,this may change the physical and mechan-ical properties of the surrounding rock,affect the variation of the plastic zone of the roadway,and lead to the failure of roadway support,thus threatening the safety of the roadway.In this paper,the variable angle shear test of drilled specimens under the action of static and dynamic loads is used to study the evolution of mechanical parameters of the specimens and their influence on the plastic zone of the sur-rounding rock.The shear strength decreases linearly with the increase of drilling diameter.With the increase of pre-static load level and dynamic load amplitude,the cohesion first increases and then decreases,and the internal friction angle decreases.Moreover,the shear failure surface changes from rough to smooth.The reasons include that the static load enhances the tooth cutting effect and the repeated friction of cracks caused by the dynamic load.Borehole pressure relief leads to an increase in the radius of the plastic zone of the surrounding rock following a quadratic function.The research results of this paper provide a theoretical basis for designing drilling unloading parameters and supporting parameters for rock burst roadways. 展开更多

Metal(oxide)-zeolite bifunctional catalysts have been the subject of considerable attention from researchers in both academic and industry,due to their superior activity and stability in various heterogeneous catalytic processes[1–3].Based on the different metal loading sites,these bifunctional catalysts can be categorized as follows:(a)metal species loaded on the outer surface of zeolite crystals,(b)metal species encapsulated within the channels or cavities of zeolites,and(c)metal species incorporated into the zeolite framework(Fig.1).Metal species in type(b)and(c)samples are stabilized by the zeolite frameworks,resulting in excellent thermal and hydrothermal stability during catalytic reactions,especially under harsh conditions,as well as unique shape-selectivity.However,the complex synthesis procedures make large-scale preparation of these catalysts impractical.In contrast,a type(a)sample can be achieved via the simple impregnation;nevertheless,migration of metal species and their aggregation into larger particles often occur during the calcination and reduction processes. 展开更多

Clay deposits typically exhibit significant degrees of heterogeneity and anisotropy in their strength and stiffness properties.Such non-monotonic responses can significantly impact the stability analysis and design of overlying shallow foundations.In this study,the undrained bearing capacity of shallow foundations resting on inhomogeneous and anisotropic clay layers subjected to oblique-eccentric combined loading is investigated through a comprehensive series of finite element limit analysis(FELA)based on the well-established lower-bound theorem and second-order cone programming(SOCP).The heterogeneity of normally consolidated(NC)clays is simulated by adopting a well-known general model of undrained shear strength increasing linearly with depth.In contrast,for overconsolidated(OC)clays,the variation of undrained shear strength with depth is considered to follow a bilinear trend.Furthermore,the inherent anisotropy is accounted for by adopting different values of undrained shear strength along different directions within the soil medium,employing an iterative-based algorithm.The results of numerical simulations are utilized to investigate the influences of natural soil heterogeneity and inherent anisotropy on the ultimate bearing capacity,failure envelope,and failure mechanism of shallow foundations subjected to the various combinations of vertical-horizontal(V-H)and vertical-moment(V-M)loads. 展开更多

It is confirmed that tandem-blade configurations have potential to enlarge the flow turning in two-dimension(2D) studies. However, the potential of tandem blades to enlarge the design space for highly loaded axial compressors was rarely investigated in open literatures. The present work aims to show the capability of tandem blades to break the loading limit of conventional blades for highly loaded compressors. The 2D models of the maximum static pressure rise derived in previous work were validated by a large amount experimental data, which showed a good agreement. An E parameter was defined to evaluate the stall margin of compressor based on the theoretical models, which indicated that the tandem blade was able to increase the loading limit of axial compressors. A single-blade stage with a loading coefficient of 0.46(based on the blade tip rotating speed) was designed as the baseline case under the guidance of the E parameter. A tandem-blade stage was then designed by ensuring that the velocity triangles were similar to the single-blade stage. The performances of both stages were investigated experimentally. The results showed that the maximum efficiency of the tandem-blade stage was 92.8%, 1% higher than the single;the stall margin increased from 16.9% to 22.3%. Besides, the maximum pressure rise of tandem rotors was beyond the loading limit of 2D single-blade cascades, which confirmed the potential of tandem blades to break the loading limit of axial compressors. 展开更多

MgH2 is considered one of the most promising hydrogen storage materials because of its safety,high efficiency,high hydrogen storage quantity and low cost characteristics.But some shortcomings are still existed:high operating temperature and poor hydrogen absorption dynamics,which limit its application.Porous Ni3ZnC0.7/Ni loaded carbon nanotubes microspheres(NZC/Ni@CNT)is prepared by facile filtration and calcination method.Then the different amount of NZC/Ni@CNT(2.5,5.0 and 7.5 wt%)is added to the MgH2 by ball milling.Among the three samples with different amount of NZC/Ni@CNT(2.5,5.0 and 7.5 wt%),the MgH2-5 wt%NZC/Ni@CNT composite exhibits the best hydrogen storage performances.After testing,the MgH2-5 wt%NZC/Ni@CNT begins to release hydrogen at around 110℃ and hydrogen absorption capacity reaches 2.34 wt%H2 at 80℃ within 60 min.Moreover,the composite can release about 5.36 wt%H2 at 300℃.In addition,hydrogen absorption and desorption activation energies of the MgH2-5 wt%NZC/Ni@CNT composite are reduced to 37.28 and 84.22 KJ/mol H2,respectively.The in situ generated Mg2NiH4/Mg2Ni can serve as a"hydrogen pump"that plays the main role in providing more activation sites and hydrogen diffusion channels which promotes H2 dissociation during hydrogen absorption process.In addition,the evenly dispersed Zn and MgZn2 in Mg and MgH2 could provide sites for Mg/MgH2 nucleation and hydrogen diffusion channel.This attempt clearly proved that the bimetallic carbide Ni3ZnC0.7 is a effective additive for the hydrogen storage performances modification of MgH2,and the facile synthesis of the Ni3ZnC0.7/Ni@CNT can provide directions of better designing high performance carbide catalysts for improving MgH2. 展开更多

The accurate measurement of parameters such as the cavity-loaded quality factor(QL)and half bandwidth(f0.5)is essential for monitoring the performance of superconducting radio-frequency cavities.However,the conventional"field decay method"employed to calibrate these values requires the cavity to satisfy a"zero-input"condition.This can be challenging when the source impedance is mismatched and produce nonzero forward signals(Vf)that significantly affect the measurement accuracy.To address this limitation,we developed a modified version of the"field decay method"based on the cavity differential equation.The proposed approach enables the precise calibration of f0.5 even under mismatch conditions.We tested the proposed approach on the SRF cavities of the Chinese Accelerator-Driven System Front-End Demo Superconducting Linac and compared the results with those obtained from a network analyzer.The two sets of results were consistent,indicating the usefulness of the proposed approach. 展开更多

Nano-silver loaded montmorillonite (Ag-MMT) was prepared by ion-exchange and then a UV-photoreduction two-step approach was applied. The silver content in Ag-MMT determined by Volhard method was about 6.4 wt%. The morphology and structure of as-synthesized Ag-MMT were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results showed that the Ag nanoparticles were spherical and their diameters were about 15-20 nm. Moreover, the structure of MMT did not change. The minimum inhibition concentration (MIC) of Ag-MMT was 100×10-6 and the sterilizing efficiency (SE) of Ag-MMT was approximately 100% against Escherichia coli ATCC 11229 (E. coli. In addition, the slow release property of silver in Ag-MMT was also demonstrated. 展开更多

A developed stereo particle image velocimetry(stereo-PIV) system was proposed to measure three-dimensional(3D) soil deformation around a laterally loaded pile in sand.The stereo-PIV technique extended 2D measurement to 3D based on a binocular vision model,where two cameras with a well geometrical setting were utilized to image the same object simultaneously.This system utilized two open software packages and some simple programs in MATLAB,which can easily be adjusted to meet user needs at a low cost.The failure planes form an angle with the horizontal line,which are measured at 27°-29°,approximately three-fourths of the frictional angle of soil.The edge of the strain wedge formed in front of the pile is an arc,which is slightly different from the straight line reported in the literature.The active and passive influence zones are about twice and six times of the diameter of the pile,respectively.The test demonstrates the good performance and feasibility of this stereo-PIV system for more advanced geotechnical testing. 展开更多

Skidding which occurs when rolling element entering into the loaded zone is prone to cause wear and incipient failure to the raceways and rolling elements. This paper presents a dynamic model to investigate the skidding of a rolling element bearing under radial load when the rolling element is entering into the load zone. In this dynamic model, the effects of the contact forces, friction forces on the rolling element-race and rolling element-cage interfaces, gravity, and the centrifugal forces of rolling elements are taken into consideration. The Hertzian contact theory is applied to calculate the non-linear contact forces. The Coulomb friction law is used to calculate the friction forces. The differential equations of rotational motion of the rolling element with regard to its central axis and the central axis of the outer ring are established respectively. The dynamic equations are then solved by using a fourth-order Runge-Kutta algorithm. The skidding characteristics of rolling element at the entry into the loaded zone are exposed, and the effects of the operating parameters on skidding behavior are carefully investigated. 展开更多

Bone cement has the capacity to release antibiotic molecules if any antibiotic is included in it, and these elution properties are improved as cement porosity is increased. In vitro studies have shown high local antibiotic concentration for many hours or few days after its use. Antibiotic loaded bone cement(ALBC) is helpful when treating an infection in total knee arthroplasty(TKA) revision surgery. The purpose of this paper was to review the evidence for the routine use of ALBC in TKA in the literature, its pros and cons. Many authors have recommended the use of ALBC also in primary TKA for infection prophylaxis, but the evidence based on data from National Registries, randomized clinical trials and meta-analysis suggest a protective effect of ALBC against infection when used in hips, but not(or only mild) in knees. A possible explanation to this finding is that the duration and quantity of locally elevated antibiotic levels after surgery are smaller in TKA, due to the smaller amount of cement used for fixation in TKA-only a layer in the bone surface. There are some concerns about the routine use of ALBC in primary TKA as prophylaxis against infection: Firstly, there is a risk of hypersensivity or toxicity even when the chance is highly improbable. Secondly, there is a reduction in the mechanical properties of the cement, but this can be probably neglected if the antibiotic is used in low doses, not more than 1 g per 40 g cement package. Another significant concern is the increased economic cost, which could be overlooked if there were enough savings in treating fewer prosthetic infections. Finally, there is also a risk of selection of antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria and this could be the main concern. If used, the choice of the antibiotic mixed in ALBC should consider microbiological aspects(broad antimicrobial spectrum and low rate of resistant bacteria), physical and chemical aspects(thermal stability, high water solubility), pharmacological characteristics(low risk to allergic reactions or toxicity) and economic aspects(not too expensive). The most commonly used antibiotics in ALBC are gentamicin, tobramycin and vancomycin. In conclusion, there is a paucity of randomized clinical trials in the use of ALBC in primary TKAs and the actual evidence of the effect of ALBC in reducing the risk of infection is insufficient. This, in addition to concerns about patient safety, risks of increase in the antibiotic resistance of microorganisms and the increase in costs in the procedure, lead us to recommend a cautious use of ALBC, perhaps only in high-risk patients(immunocompromised, morbidly obese, diabetic and patients with previous history of fracture or infection around the knee) unless the benefits of ALBC use were fully proven. Meanwhile, the rigorous use of peri-operative prophylactic systemic antibiotics and adoption of efficient antiseptic procedures and improved surgical techniques must be considered the gold standard in infection prevention in TKA surgery. 展开更多

Plant-derived nanovesicles have gained attention given their similarity to mammalian exosomes and advantages such as low cost,sustainability,and tissue targeting.Thus,they hold promise for disease treatment and drug delivery.In this study,we proposed a time-efficient method,PEG 8000 combined with sucrose density gradient centrifugation to prepare ginger-derived nanovesicles(GDNVs).Subsequently,curcumin(CUR)was loaded onto GDNV by ultrasonic incubation.The optimum conditions for ginger-derived nanovesicles loaded with curcumin(CG)were ultrasound time of 3 min,a carrier-to-drug ratio(GDNV:CUR)of 1:1.The study achieved a high loading capacity(94.027%±0.094%)and encapsulation efficiency(89.300%±0.344%).Finally,the drugs'in vivo distribution and anti-colitis activity were investigated in mice.CG was primarily distributed in the colon after oral administration.Compared to CUR and GDNV,CG was superior in improving disease activity,colon length,liver and spleen coefficients,myeloperoxidase activity,and biochemical factor levels in ulcerative colitis(UC)mice.In addition,CG plays a protective role against UC by modulating serum metabolite levels and gut flora.In summary,our study demonstrated that GDNV can be used for CUR delivery with enhanced therapeutic potential. 展开更多
