OBJECTIVE:To assess the efficacy and safety of the Qingyanyin formulated granules(轻燕饮配方颗粒,QYY),press needles(PN),and their combined application in addressing abdominal obesity(AO).This trial aims to offer a more scientifically grounded therapeutic regimen for clinical interventions.METHODS:From March 2021 to July 2021,a multicenter,triple-blind,randomized 2×2 factorial design clinical trial was conducted across 7 centers in 4 major cities within China's mainland.The trial participants were patients diagnosed with AO.The trial followed a 1∶1∶1∶1 random allocation ratio,assigning participants to one of four groups:QYY placebo plus simulated press needles(SPN)(placebo+SPN),QYY plus SPN(QYY+SPN),QYY placebo plus PN(placebo+PN),and QYY plus PN(QYY+PN).The trial participants received treatment for 12 weeks.Observe the changes in waist circumference,body weight,body mass index(BMI),Beck Depression Inventory(BDI),Beck Anxiety Inventory(BAI)scores,and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)before and after treatment.RESULTS:The QYY+PN group exhibited significant improvements in waist circumference compared to placebo+PN[Difference=-1.59,95%CI(-3.03,-0.16)]and placebo+SPN groups[Difference=-2.01,95%CI(-3.46,-0.57)].QYY+PN demonstrated a significant advantage over placebo+SPN[Difference=-2.01,95%CI(-3.46,-0.57)],and no statistically significant interaction was observed between the two interventions(P>0.05).In terms of weight and BMI improvements,the QYY+PN,QYY+SPN,and the PN+placebo groups all experienced trending greater reductions in weight compared to the placebo group.In terms of the total scores of PSQI,BAI,and BDI,all four groups exhibited improvements compared to the baseline.Specifically,concerning the change in total PSQI scores,the QYY+PN group exhibited a greater reduction;Regarding the change in total BAI scores,the PN+placebo group demonstrated a greater decrease;As for the change in total BDI scores,the QYY+SPN group displayed a greater reduction.CONCLUSION:This study confirmed that QYY+PN can effectively reduce the waist circumference of patients with AO.Furthermore,the combined approach offers greater benefits than either treatment alone,all without any reported serious adverse events. 展开更多

Objective:To evaluate the therapeutic effects of intravenous infusion using intravenous indwelling needles(IIN)versus peripherally inserted central catheters(PICC)in patients with acute leukemia during maintenance treatment.Methods:Eighty-six patients with acute leukemia admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Baotou Medical College from July 2022 to March 2023 were randomly divided into the IIN group and the PICC group,with 43 patients in each group.Results:Significant differences were observed between the two groups in terms of the number of punctures and puncture time(P0.05).However,anxiety,treatment compliance,and patient satisfaction were significantly lower in IIN group compared to the PICC group(P<0.05).Additionally,the incidence of vein-related complications in the IIN group was higher than in the PICC group(P<0.05).Conclusion:Compared with intravenous indwelling needles,PICCs demonstrate superior application outcomes.Although the cost of PICC placement is relatively high,its ability to prolong maintenance treatment,alleviate patient anxiety,reduce vein-related complications,and improve treatment compliance makes it a valuable method worth promoting. 展开更多

In recent years, Xing'an larch (Larix gmelinii) has been seriously infected by pests and drought. In order to improve the accuracy of monitoring the damage to larch by remote sensing (RS) and to predict the health of the larch, We studied fire reflectance features of larch needles under different water conditions at the needle level by using the LIBERTY (Leaf Incorporating Biochemistry Exhibiting Reflectance and Transmittance Yields) model. Before applying the LIBERTY model, we recalibrated it for the needles of L. gmelinii based on ten field-measured spectral curves. After recalibration, LIBERTY can accurately model the needle reflectance spectra of L. gmelinii. Based on the recalibrated LIBERTY model, we extracted and analyzed the sensitive bands to needle water content by simulating the needle reflectance spectra under different drought conditions. Then, we established mathematical equations between the spectral indices (MSI, NDWI, and GVMI) and needle water content. Results show that the variations of larch needle water content can significantly change the needle spectra at the near-infrared and short-wave infrared bands. The higher the water content is, the higher the absorption peak is. We believe that our study will provide the theoretical basis and an optional method to investigate the forest water stress using multi-spectral or hyper-spectral remote sensing data. 展开更多

The deciduous conifer larch has been widely distributed around the world,is a high-quality wood species and is also used to extract industrial raw materials and medicines.In this study,we developed an organogenesis protocol for Larix olgensis from both mature zygotic embryos and needles,and analyzed the content of taxifolin in different tissues.The highest callus induction(96.8%)from mature zygotic embryo was found in the Douglas-fir Cotyledon Revised(DCR)medium augmented with 2.0 mg·L−16-Benzylaminopurine(6-BA)and 0.2 mg·L−1α-Naphthaleneacetic acid(NAA),while from needles the highest callus induction(92.03%)was found in the Murashige and Skoog(MS)medium augmented with 3 mg·L−16-BA and 0.3 mg·L−1 NAA.The best shoot regeneration capacity from zygotic embryo-derived calli(83.3%)was obtained in DCR medium augmented with 1.0 mg·L−16-BA and 0.01 mg·L−1 NAA,and needle-derived calli were 77.3%.The shoots achieved the highest elongation(75.6%)in the DCR medium supplemented with 0.5 mg·L−1 6-BA,0.05 mg·L−1 NAA and 2 g·L−1 activated charcoal(AC).The rooting rate was 62.8%in DCR medium augmented with 3 mg·L−1 Indole-3-butyric acid(IBA)and 100 mg·L−1 phloroglucinol(PG).The accumulation of the taxifolin in elongation shoots and lignified elongation shoots have greatly improved along with the development process,were 28.6μg·g−1,and 53μg·g−1 respectively.The content of the taxifolin in callus was 1.99−5.26μg·g−1,adventitious shoots were 4.8μg·g−1,and adventitious roots were 2.86μg·g−1.We report an efficient organogenesis and taxifolin production protocol in larch for the first time. 展开更多

Objective To observe the effect of three vertigo-stopping needles on the contents of neuropeptide Y (NPY), endothelin (ET) and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) in plasma of patients with cervical vertigo, and to explore its mechanism of treatment. Methods One hundred and eighty patients with cervical vertigo were divided into group A [acupuncture at R6nyfng (人迎ST 9) and Fengchi (风池 GB 20), and frontal line], group B [acupuncture at Jing jiaji (颈夹脊), GB 20 and Baihui (百会 GV 20)] and group C [intravenous infusion with ligustrazine and oral administration with flunarizine] according to simple randomization, with 60 cases in each group. For the patients in group A and group B, the treatment was conducted once a day, and ten times were considered as one course of treatment. Two days were free of treatment between two courses, and two courses were needed. For the patients in group C, the treatment was conducted for fifteen days. The contents of NPY, ET and CGRP in plasma before and after treatment were detected in patients with cervical vertigo. Results The contents of NPY in plasma of patients in the three groups after treatment were markedly lower than that before treatment (all P〈0.01), and the differences were not statistically significant when compared the descending degrees among three groups (P〉0.05). The contents of ET in plasma of patients in the three groups after treatment were markedly lower than that before treatment (P〈0.05, P〈0.01), the descending degree in group A was greater than that in group B and group C, and the difference was statistically significant (P〈0.O1, P〈O.05); while the difference was not statistically significant when compared the descending degrees between group B and group C (P〉0.05). The contents of CGRP in plasma of patients in the three groups after treatment were markedly higher than that before treatment (P〈0.05, P〈O.O1), the increasing degree in group A was greater than that in group B and group C, and the difference was statistically significant (both P〈0.05); while the difference was not statistically significant when compared the increasing degrees between group B and group C (P〉0.05). Conclusion Three vertigo-stopping needles, acupuncture and medication can regulate the contents of NPY, ET and CGRP in plasma of patients with cervical vertigo, while three vertigo-stopping needles is significantly superior to acupuncture and medication in reducing ET and increasing CGRP. 展开更多

As one of the three major five-leaved pines in the northern hemisphere, Pinus koraiensis is the most important dominant tree species in the natural mixed-broadleaved Korean pine forests. However, the regeneration of P koraiensis under the canopy of secondary forest stands is poor because of the light limitation. This study was conducted to understand how P koraiensis seedlings adapt to different light intensities and what would be the optimum light level for their establishment and growth. Three repetition plots with four light intensities (15%, 30%, 60% and 100% of the natural incident irradiances, achieved by suspending layers of black nylon net above and surrounding the plots) were set up under natural climate conditions in a montane region in eastern Liaoning Province, Northeast China. A total of 80 P koraiensis seedlings with similar height and root collar diameter were transplanted into four plots. After one year of acclimation to the specific light conditions, the seasonal variations of the photosynthetic variables and needle traits of the current and one-year-old needles, and the growth parameters were observed under four light intensities. The results indicated that: (1) The seedling at 60% treatment exhibited the greatest growth, which agreed with the response of the light-saturated photosynthetic rates (Amax) and the dark respiration rate (Rd) in the current and one-year-old needles, i.e., Rd at 60% treatment was significantly lower than that at 100% treatment, but Amax did not differ between the seedlings at 100% and 60% treatments. (2) The P. koraiensis seedlings have a certain photosynthetic plasticity to adapt the light conditions by adjusting their needle traits and regulating the physiological processes, because Amax, Rd, light saturation point and compensation point, the needle mass area, needle nitrogen and chlorophyll contents were significantly (p〈0.05) correlated with the light intensities. Especially, Am,x at 100% and 60% treatments was significantly higher (p〈0.05) than that at 30% and 15% treatments for both current and one-year-old needles. (3) The needles of different ages played a commutative role during the growing season, i.e., the one-year-old needles played a major role for the photosynthesis in the early growing season; the current year needles did in the later growing season. This ensured the effective photosynthesis throughout the growing season. These findings suggest that P. koraiensis is the in-between heliophilous and shade-tolerant tree species at least for the seedlings up to 8 years. 展开更多

Emissions from industrial activities pose a serious threat to human health and impose the need for monitoring both inorganic and organic pollutants in industrial areas. We selected Masson pine (Pinus massoniana L.) as potential biomonitor and collected the current (C) and previous year (C+ 1) needles from three industrial sites dominated by petrochemical, ceramics manufacturing, and iron and steel smelting plants and one remote site to determine heavy metals (Cu, Cd, Pb, Zn, Cr, Ni and Co) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in unwashed and water-washed needles. Both unwashed and washed C+ 1 needles showed generally higher concentrations of heavy metals and PAHs than C needles, although the washed needles more clearly spotlighted the accumulation effect of PAHs over exposure time. Water-washing resulted in a significant decrease in needle PAH concentrations with more significant effects shown in C needles. By contrast, needle heavy metal concentrations were much less affected by washing. Although heavy metals and PAHs might differ in adsorption and uptake strategies, their higher concentrations in the needles at the industrial sites indicated conspicuous contamination due to industrial emissions there. The PAH distribution patterns in pine needles accorded with the real types of energy consumption in the study sites and were efficiently used for pinpointing local pollutant sources. 展开更多

Incorrect injection technique of insulin is a common problem worldwide,which can reduce the efficacy of insulin therapy and lead to poor glucose control.A cross-sectional,multiple-center survey from 44 hospitals was conducted from Nov.2015 to Dec.2015.Non-parametric Kruskal–Wallis analysis of variance and Mann-Whitney U test were used for multi-parametric analysis.Multivariable logistic regressions were performed to identify the factors associated with independent variables.Overall,a single needle was used at an average of 3.79 times,with the highest of 60 times.Analysis across all study participants showed that the frequency of a single needle was positively correlated with age(P = 0.029),duration of diabetes(P≤0.001) and number of complications(P≤0.001).Multivariable logistic regressions analysis of insulin pen needle reuse and needle compliance showed that age,income,education,marital status,duration of diabetes,quality of life and cost of drug were significantly related to needle reuse.From this survey,we found that reuse of insulin pen needle was common in China.Frequency of needle reuse was related to the patients' demographic characteristics(income level,age,region,education,employment status and self-care),health-related variables(duration of diabetes,number of complications and EQ-5 D index scores) and utilization of health services(clinical visits,hospitalization and cost of medications). 展开更多

Methods press needle (SEIRIN pyonexes) were embedded in EX-UE 2 of patients with postoperative pain of mixed hemorrhoid, once a day and totally 7 treatments. Visual analogue scale (VAS) values were adopted for evaluation. Results Complete remission of clinical pain was observed in 34 cases, accounting for 50.00%; significantly effective in 19 cases, accounting for 27.94%; effective in 13 cases, accounting for 19.12%; and ineffective in 2 cases, accounting for 2.94%; the total effective rate was 97.06%. Conclusion The therapy of treating postoperative pain of mixed hemorrhoid by embedding press needle in EX-UE2 is effectively satisfactory. 展开更多

The biochemical and physiological properties of alpine woody plants responding to elevation are associated with needles and twigs age.However,the interactions with elevation were not well studied.In this study,we investigated age-related(current,one-year and two-year old)functional traits of Abies faxoniana in needles and twigs with elevation(2500 m,2750 m,3000 m,3250 m,and 3500 m a.s.l)at the eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau.The macro-elements(C,N,P,K,Ca,and Mg),nonstructural carbons(soluble sugar,sucrose,and starch)and isotope composition(δ13C)were measured in needles and twigs of adult A.faxoniana trees(breast height diameter about 30 cm).There were significant age,elevation and their interaction effects on these traits(except forδ13C).Compared with twoyear-old needles and twigs,the current and one-yearold tissues possessed higher concentrations of P and K,lower Ca concentrations,as well as a lowerδ13C values and C:P and N:P ratios in needles.The current-year twigs generally had higher sucrose concentration and sucrose:starch ratio than the old ones.This study suggested that more nutrients were invested to young needles and twigs to cope with elevation for A.faxoniana than the old ones. 展开更多

Methods Pricking needling was carried out on the 65 children with func onal dyspepsia on Shàngwǎn(上脘 CV 13),Zhōngwǎn(中脘 CV 12),Xiàwǎn(下脘 CV 10),Guānyuán(关元 CV 4),Tiānshū(天枢 ST 25) at both sides,Zúsānlǐ(足三里 ST 36) at both sides and Sìfèng(四缝 EX-UE 10). The treatments were carried out once every three days for totally three times,and the clinical efficacy was observed. Results Fiftyeight cases were cured,eff ec ve in 7 cases and no invalid case; the cure rate was 89.2% and the total eff ec ve rate was 100%. AIM: To determine which modification to a vascular puncture needle results in increased visualization during ultrasound (US)-guided vascular puncture. METHODS: We evaluated US images of a phantom made of degassed gelatin and each of the following four modified versions of a commercially available vascular puncture needle (18 G): re-cut needle, dimple needle, rough-surface needle (rough over the sections of needle located 3-6 mm from the tip), and a needle with four side holes (side holes covered by the sheath). An unmodified commercially available puncture needle was used as a control. Five interventional radiologists evaluated image quality according to the following classification grade:?I, invisible; II, poor; III, moderate; IV, good; V, excellent. RESULTS: The highest score for needle visualization was obtained for the needle with four side holes. The re-cut needle scored the same as the control. Multiple comparisons were conducted using overall evaluation scores among the commercially available needle, dimple needle, rough-surface needle (3-6 mm), and the needle with four side holes. A significantly higher score was obtained for the needle with four side holes (P < 0.05/6). CONCLUSION: The needle with four side holes was prominently visualized and gained a significantly higher score (compared with the other needles) in a phantom evaluation. 展开更多

In the early 20th century,French vice-consul George Souliéde Morant encountered acupuncture during his visit to China,and then brought it back to France.After more than a century,his collection was transported from Paris,France to Kunming,China,and later recognized as a Chinese national third-class precious cultural heritage.Currently housed in the Museum of Western Studies on Chinese Medicine at Yunnan University of Chinese Medicine,this set of instruments includes one needle holder converted from a fan-shaped holder,ten acupuncture needles,and eleven paper tags handwritten in English with names of diseases and body parts.This article attempts to present the foundational information and historical significance of this collection of this set of late Qing dynasty acupuncture instruments by reviewing the collection and related research on acupuncture instruments,consulting acupuncture professionals,measuring the detailed information of the set of instruments,and employing a method of translating and summarizing the content of the attached tags. 展开更多

Ultrasonic extraction conditions of polyphenols from the needles of black pine(Pinus thunbergii) were optimized by single factors analysis and Box-Behnken experiment design. The results showed that both of ethanol concentration and ultrasonic time had a significant effect on polyphenol extraction, and there was significant interaction between any two variables in the three parameters of ethanol concentration, ultrasonic temperature and ultrasonic time. The optimal parameters for polyphenol extraction were the ethanol concentration of 52.67%, ultrasonic temperature at 49.21 ℃and ultrasonic time of 30.76 min. Under these conditions, the actual content of polyphenols was close to the predicted value. Therefore, the process can be used to extract polyphenols from black pine needles. 展开更多

The interphase mass,heat transfer efficiency,and flow resistance are strongly dependent on bubble size in gas-liquid two-phase systems,so it is very important for engineering applications to effectively control bubble size.In this paper,the formation,growth,and detachment of single bubbles in Newtonian liquids based on capillary needles were studied in detail using a volume of fluid method.The authors investigated the effects of gas injection velocity,gravitational level,surface tension coefficient,needle radius,and liquid-phase properties(liquid viscosity and density)on the process of bubble generation,and the effects of the above factors on bubble shape,detachment diameter,and time were analyzed.The results show that an increase in gas injection rate,liquid-phase viscosity,needle radius,and surface tension coefficient can lead to an increase in bubble detachment diameter;however,an increase in liquid-phase density and gravitational level can lead to a decrease in bubble detachment diameter.It is found that the effect of the liquid-phase viscosity on bubble detachment diameter and time is slight,but the effect of gravitational level on detachment diameter and time is significant.Among all the forces,buoyancy,surface tension,and pressure are the most important ones that control the generation of bubbles. 展开更多
