The global monsoon system,encompassing the Asian-Australian,African,and American monsoons,sustains two-thirds of the world’s population by regulating water resources and agriculture.Monsoon anomalies pose severe risks,including floods and droughts.Recent research associated with the implementation of the Global Monsoons Model Intercomparison Project under the umbrella of CMIP6 has advanced our understanding of its historical variability and driving mechanisms.Observational data reveal a 20th-century shift:increased rainfall pre-1950s,followed by aridification and partial recovery post-1980s,driven by both internal variability(e.g.,Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation)and external forcings(greenhouse gases,aerosols),while ENSO drives interannual variability through ocean-atmosphere interactions.Future projections under greenhouse forcing suggest long-term monsoon intensification,though regional disparities and model uncertainties persist.Models indicate robust trends but struggle to quantify extremes,where thermodynamic effects(warming-induced moisture rise)uniformly boost heavy rainfall,while dynamical shifts(circulation changes)create spatial heterogeneity.Volcanic eruptions and proposed solar radiation modification(SRM)further complicate predictions:tropical eruptions suppress monsoons,whereas high-latitude events alter cross-equatorial flows,highlighting unresolved feedbacks.The emergent constraint approach is booming in terms of correcting future projections and reducing uncertainty with respect to the global monsoons.Critical challenges remain.Model biases and sparse 20th-century observational data hinder accurate attribution.The interplay between natural variability and anthropogenic forcings,along with nonlinear extreme precipitation risks under warming,demands deeper mechanistic insights.Additionally,SRM’s regional impacts and hemispheric monsoon interactions require systematic evaluation.Addressing these gaps necessitates enhanced observational networks,refined climate models,and interdisciplinary efforts to disentangle multiscale drivers,ultimately improving resilience strategies for monsoon-dependent regions. 展开更多

In this study,a new extragradient algorithm is proposed,which combines an inexact projection operator with relative error to solve quasimonotone variational inequality problems in infinite-dimensional Hilbert space.The algorithm integrates a feasible inexact projection operator into the classical extragradient framework,and theoretical analysis shows that the method has weak convergence under the assumption that the operator is Lipschitz continuous.In addition,the strong convergence of the iterative sequence is guaranteed when the operator exhibits strong pseudomonotonicity.The effectiveness and practical performance of the algorithm are demonstrated through numerical experiments on typical problem instances.The proposed approach contributes to the advancement of variational inequality theory by extending the applicability of extragradient methods to broader classes of operators.It also provides a scalable and efficient solution paradigm for large-scale optimization problems involving quasimonotone structures. 展开更多

Projected Runge-Kutta (R-K) methods for constrained Hamiltonian systems are proposed. Dynamic equations of the systems, which are index-3 differential-algebraic equations (DAEs) in the Heisenberg form, are established under the framework of Lagrangian multipliers. R-K methods combined with the technique of projections are then used to solve the DAEs. The basic idea of projections is to eliminate the constraint violations at the position, velocity, and acceleration levels, and to preserve the total energy of constrained Hamiltonian systems by correcting variables of the position, velocity, acceleration, and energy. Numerical results confirm the validity and show the high precision of the proposed method in preserving three levels of constraints and total energy compared with results reported in the literature. 展开更多

This paper studies the consensus control of multiagent systems with binary-valued observations.An algorithm alternating estimation and control is proposed.Each agent estimates the states of its neighbors based on a projected empirical measure method for a holding time.Based on the estimates,each agent designs the consensus control with a constant gain at some skipping time.The states of the system are updated by the designed control,and the estimation and control design will be repeated.For the estimation,the projected empirical measure method is proposed for the binary-valued observations.The algorithm can ensure the uniform boundedness of the estimates and the mean square error of the estimation is proved to be at the order of the reciprocal of the holding time(the same order as that in the case of accurate outputs).For the consensus control,a constant gain is designed instead of the stochastic approximation based gain in the existing literature for binary-valued observations.And,there is no need to make modification for control since the uniform boundedness of the estimates ensures the uniform boundedness of the agents’states.Finally,the systems updated by the designed control are proved to achieve consensus and the consensus speed is faster than that in the existing literature.Simulations are given to demonstrate the theoretical results. 展开更多

Based on observed daily precipitation data of 540 stations and 3,839 gridded data from the high-resolution regional climate model COSMO-Climate Limited-area Modeling(CCLM)for 1961–2000,the simulation ability of CCLM on daily precipitation in China is examined,and the variation of daily precipitation distribution pattern is revealed.By applying the probability distribution and extreme value theory to the projected daily precipitation(2011–2050)under SRES A1B scenario with CCLM,trends of daily precipitation series and daily precipitation extremes are analyzed.Results show that except for the western Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and South China,distribution patterns of the kurtosis and skewness calculated from the simulated and observed series are consistent with each other;their spatial correlation coefcients are above 0.75.The CCLM can well capture the distribution characteristics of daily precipitation over China.It is projected that in some parts of the Jianghuai region,central-eastern Northeast China and Inner Mongolia,the kurtosis and skewness will increase significantly,and precipitation extremes will increase during 2011–2050.The projected increase of maximum daily rainfall and longest non-precipitation period during flood season in the aforementioned regions,also show increasing trends of droughts and floods in the next 40 years. 展开更多

Matrix completion is the extension of compressed sensing.In compressed sensing,we solve the underdetermined equations using sparsity prior of the unknown signals.However,in matrix completion,we solve the underdetermined equations based on sparsity prior in singular values set of the unknown matrix,which also calls low-rank prior of the unknown matrix.This paper firstly introduces basic concept of matrix completion,analyses the matrix suitably used in matrix completion,and shows that such matrix should satisfy two conditions:low rank and incoherence property.Then the paper provides three reconstruction algorithms commonly used in matrix completion:singular value thresholding algorithm,singular value projection,and atomic decomposition for minimum rank approximation,puts forward their shortcoming to know the rank of original matrix.The Projected Gradient Descent based on Soft Thresholding(STPGD),proposed in this paper predicts the rank of unknown matrix using soft thresholding,and iteratives based on projected gradient descent,thus it could estimate the rank of unknown matrix exactly with low computational complexity,this is verified by numerical experiments.We also analyze the convergence and computational complexity of the STPGD algorithm,point out this algorithm is guaranteed to converge,and analyse the number of iterations needed to reach reconstruction error.Compared the computational complexity of the STPGD algorithm to other algorithms,we draw the conclusion that the STPGD algorithm not only reduces the computational complexity,but also improves the precision of the reconstruction solution. 展开更多

The boost type power supplies are widely used in portable consumer electronics to step up the input voltage to adapt for the high voltage applications like light-emitting diode(LED)driving and liquid crystal display(LCD)biasing.In these applications,a regulator with small volume,fewer external components and high efficiency is highly desired.This paper proposes a projected off-and on-time boost control scheme,based on which a monolithic IC with an on-chip VDMOS with 0.2Ωon-state resistance RDS-ON was implemented in 1.5μm bipolar-CMOS-DMOS(BCD)process.A 12 V,0.3 A boost regulator prototype is presented as well.With projected off-time and modulated on-time in continuous conduction mode(CCM),a quasi fixed frequency,which is preferred for ripple control,is realized.With projected on-time and modulated off-time in discontinuous conduction mode(DCM),pulse frequency modulation(PFM)operation,which is beneficial to light load efficiency improvement,is achieved without extra control circuitry.Measurement results show that an efficiency of 3%higher than that of a conventional method under 0.5 W output is achieved while a step load transient response comparable to that of current mode control is maintained as well. 展开更多

An angular momentum projected potential-energy-surface (PES) calculation, which takes both rotational symmetry restoration and multi-quasiparticle excitation into account, is developed by using the macroscopic-microscopic model and the projected shell model (PSM). Within this method, it may become possible to modify the excitation spectra which are influenced by shape-softness of nuclei, including high-K states. As our first example, this method is adopted to study the collective and multi-quasiparticle excitations of 178Hf~ and the results are in good agreement with the existing experimental data. In addition, as for the dominant structure of non- collective 6+ bands, the conflict between experimental result and the previous PSM calculation is clarified. 展开更多

The essence and the main contribution of this paper are consisted of the suggested novel method for estimation of a projected surface area of an irregularly shaped fragment, which represents a significant step toward a new method of an aerodynamic force estimation of a fragment motion through a resistive medium. The suggested method is to use a tri-axial ellipsoid that has a continuous surface(given as a mathematical function) to approximate an irregularly shaped fragment so that the fragment trajectory can be estimated faster taking into consideration that the aerodynamic force is proportional to a projected surface area of the fragment.During their motion, fragments can take any orientation relative to the velocity vector and aerodynamic force is proportional to a projected surface area of fragment perpendicular to the velocity vector,so it is necessary to have a method for correct estimation of the projected area in an arbitrary direction relatively to the fragment.The model was validated with analytical and CAD techniques, and verified using 3D model of a real fragment. The comparison of the projected surface area values for the fragment, obtained using the CAD tools and using our model, are generally in good agreement, This method represents a step toward modeling that does not require a CFD result for estimation of the aerodynamic force of irregularly shaped bodies. 展开更多

Precipitation over the Tibetan Plateau(TP)is important to local and downstream ecosystems.Based on a weighting method considering model skill and independence,changes in the TP precipitation for near-term(2021-40),mid-term(2041-60)and long-term(2081-2100)under shared socio-economic pathways(SSP1-1.9,SSP1-2.6,SSP2-4.5,SSSP3-7.0,SSP5-8.5)are projected with 27 models from the latest Sixth Phase of the Couple Model Intercomparison Project.The annual mean precipitation is projected to increase by 7.4%-21.6%under five SSPs with a stronger change in the northern TP by the end of the 21st century relative to the present climatology.Changes in the TP precipitation at seasonal scales show a similar moistening trend to that of annual mean precipitation,except for the drying trend in winter precipitation along the southern edges of the TP.Weighting generally suggests a slightly stronger increase in TP precipitation with reduced model uncertainty compared to equally-weighted projections.The effect of weighting exhibits spatial and seasonal differences.Seasonally,weighting leads to a prevailing enhancement of increase in spring precipitation over the TP.Spatially,the influence of weighting is more remarkable over the northwestern TP regarding the annual,summer and autumn precipitation.Differences between weighted and original MMEs can give us more confidence in a stronger increase in precipitation over the TP,especially for the season of spring and the region of the northwestern TP,which requires additional attention in decision making. 展开更多

Precipitation projections over the Tibetan Plateau(TP)show diversity among existing studies,partly due to model uncertainty.How to develop a reliable projection remains inconclusive.Here,based on the IPCC AR6–assessed likely range of equilibrium climate sensitivity(ECS)and the climatological precipitation performance,the authors constrain the CMIP6(phase 6 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project)model projection of summer precipitation and water availability over the TP.The best estimates of precipitation changes are 0.24,0.25,and 0.45 mm d−1(5.9%,6.1%,and 11.2%)under the Shared Socioeconomic Pathway(SSP)scenarios of SSP1–2.6,SSP2–4.5,and SSP5–8.5 from 2050–2099 relative to 1965–2014,respectively.The corresponding constrained projections of water availability measured by precipitation minus evaporation(P–E)are 0.10,0.09,and 0.22 mm d−1(5.7%,4.9%,and 13.2%),respectively.The increase of precipitation and P–E projected by the high-ECS models,whose ECS values are higher than the upper limit of the likely range,are about 1.7 times larger than those estimated by constrained projections.Spatially,there is a larger increase in precipitation and P–E over the eastern TP,while the western part shows a relatively weak difference in precipitation and a drier trend in P–E.The wetter TP projected by the high-ECS models resulted from both an approximately 1.2–1.4 times stronger hydrological sensitivity and additional warming of 0.6℃–1.2℃under all three scenarios during 2050–2099.This study emphasizes that selecting climate models with climate sensitivity within the likely range is crucial to reducing the uncertainty in the projection of TP precipitation and water availability changes. 展开更多

Based on the simulations of 22 CMIP5 models in combination with socio-economic data and terrain elevation data,the spatial distribution of risk levels of flood disaster and the vulnerability to flood hazards in China are projected under the RCP8.5 for the near term period(2016–2035), medium term period(2046–2065) and long term period(2080–2099),respectively. The results show that regions with high flood hazard levels are mainly located in Southeast China, while the vulnerability to flood hazards is high in eastern China. Under the RCP8.5 greenhouse gas emissions scenario, future high flood risk levels will mainly appear in the eastern part of Sichuan, in major part of East China, and in the provinces of Hebei, Beijing, and Tianjin. The major cities in Northeast China, some areas in Shaanxi and Shanxi, as well as the coastal areas in southeastern China will also encounter high flood risks. Compared with the baseline period, the regional flood risk levels will increase towards the end of the 21 st century, although the occurrences of floods change little. Due to the coarse resolution of the climate models and the indistinct methodology for determining the weight coefficients,large uncertainty still exists in the projection of flood risks. 展开更多

Based on the outputs from 21 CMIP5 (Coupled Model Intercomparison Project phase 5) models, future changes in the mean temperature, precipitation and four climate extreme indices (annual maximum of daily maximum temperature (TXx), minimum of daily minimum temperature (TNn), annual total precipitation when the daily amount exceeds the 95th percentile of wet-day precipitation (R95p), and maximum consecutive 5-day precipitation (RX5day)) over Hindu Kush Himalayan (HKH) region are investigated under the greenhouse gas concentration pathways of RCP4.5 and RCP8.5. Two periods of the 21st century, 2036e2065 and 2066e2095, are selected, with the reference period is considered as 1976e2005. Results show general increase of the mean temperature, TXx and TNn under both scenarios, with the largest increases found during 2066e2095 under RCP8.5. Future precipitation is projected to increase over most part of HKH, except for the northwestern part. Intensification of the precipitation extremes is projected over the region. The uncertainties of mean temperature, TXx and TNn over the HKH1 subregions are the largest compared to the other three subregions and the overall HKH. Besides RX5day during 2036e2065 over HKH1, the uncertainties of R95p and RX5day tend to be larger following the increase of greenhouse gas concentrations. The multimodel ensemble medians of temperature and four extreme indices under RCP8.5 are projected to be larger than those under RCP4.5 in each of the subregions. 展开更多

This article aims at studying two-direction refinable functions and two-direction wavelets in the setting R^s, s 〉 1. We give a sufficient condition for a two-direction refinable function belonging to L^2(R^s). Then, two theorems are given for constructing biorthogonal (orthogonal) two-direction refinable functions in L^2(R^s) and their biorthogonal (orthogonal) two-direction wavelets, respectively. From the constructed biorthogonal (orthogonal) two-direction wavelets, symmetric biorthogonal (orthogonal) multiwaveles in L^2(R^s) can be obtained easily. Applying the projection method to biorthogonal (orthogonal) two-direction wavelets in L^2(R^s), we can get dual (tight) two-direction wavelet frames in L^2(R^m), where m ≤ s. From the projected dual (tight) two-direction wavelet frames in L^2(R^m), symmetric dual (tight) frames in L^2(R^m) can be obtained easily. In the study of a visual projection field with swarm movements,an autonomous control strategy is presented in this paper for a swarm system under attack.To ensure a fast swarm dynamic response and stable spatial cohesion in a complex environment,a new hybrid swarm motion model is proposed by introducing global visual projection information to a traditional local interaction mechanism.In the face of attackers,individuals move towards the largest free space according to the projected view of the environment,rather than directly in the opposite direction of the attacker.Moreover,swarm individuals can certainly regroup without dispersion after the attacker leaves.On the other hand,the light transmittance of each individual is defined based on global visual projection information to represent its spatial freedom and relative position in the swarm.Then,an autonomous control strategy with adaptive parameters is proposed according to light transmittance to guide the movement of swarm individuals.The simulation results demonstrate in detail how individuals can avoid attackers safely and reconstruct ordered states of swarm motion. 展开更多

The potential change of drought measured by the Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI) is projected by using a coupled climate system model under a Representative Pathway 8.5 (RCP8.5) scenario.The PDSI changes calculated by two potential evapotranspiration algorithms are compared.The algorithm of Thomthwaite equation overestimates the impact of surface temperature on evaporation and leads to an unrealistic increasing of drought frequency.The PM algorithm based on the Penman-Monteith equation is physically reasonably and necessary for climate change projections.The Flexible Global Ocean-Atmosphere-Land System model,Spectral Version 2 (FGOALS-s2) projects an increasing trend of drought during 2051-2100 in tropical and subtropical areas of North and South America,North Africa,South Europe,Southeast Asia,and the Australian continent.Both the moderate drought (PDSI <-2) and extreme drought (PDSI <-4) areas show statistically significant increasing trends under an RCP8.5 scenario.The uncertainty in the model projection is also discussed. 展开更多
