Integrating machine learning and physical models for reconstructing sound speed profiles in mesoscale eddies 认领 引用

Mesoscale eddies significantly affect sound propagation,yet their complex internal sound speed profiles suffer from substantial reconstruction errors,and only few studies specifically addressed this reconstruction.To bridge this gap,we used multi-source satellite data and Argo profiles to identify eddies and build a temperature-salinity-sound speed dataset.Sea surface parameters(temperature,height anomalies,salinity,density)and Argo density serve as inputs for a random forest(RF)algorithm to learn the surface-to-underwater sound speed mapping.Concurrently,a unified eddy dynamic model reconstructs the internal density field.By combining these environmental parameters with the reconstructed density generates eddy sound speed profiles,an integrated PIRF-DEN model that merges machine learning and physical modeling was established.Evaluations demonstrate the superiority of the model.By incorporating density input,the reconstruction accuracy was significantly improved,the mean absolute error(MAE)and root mean square error(RMSE)were reduced to 0.83 and 1.39 m/s,respectively,which is 87.3%and 83.7%less than that of the sEOF-r method.Integration of the eddy model effectively characterized the vertical density structure,whose constraint lowered the overfitting risk and enhanced the accuracy and stability over sEOF-r,sEOF-RF,and RF models.Propagation loss calculations using the reconstructed sound speed showed high correlation(coefficient:0.77)with measured data,further confirming its reliability. 展开更多

Nitrate-to-ammonia conversion presents an effective method to remediate nitrate pollution while transforming waste into a valuable product and has recently garnered significant attention.Beyond the extensively studied Cu-based catalysts,Co has also garnered significant attention.Identifying the real active sites and elucidating the mechanisms are urgently needed for its development in nitrate reduction.Co3O4,particularly its Co3+sites,is an established active phase for nitrate reduction and has been extensively studied.However,unlike the deliberate construction of the Co3O4phase or introducing doping to expose more Co3+in the previous studies,it was found in this work that the active species above could be generated in Ni-Co double hydroxides in the context of nitrate reduction.The in situ generated Co3O4,especially the spontaneously more exposed octahedrally coordinated Co3+,can significantly facilitate the crucial adsorption of Nand thus the following reaction.Furthermore,incorporated Ni sites accelerate nitrate reduction kinetics by promoting hydrogenation,facilitated by their H*-generating capability.This enhanced catalytic activity yields a superior NH3production rate of 7.05 mmol h-1cm-2.Besides,a new and more efficient approach for nitrate remediation that focuses on the nitrate sources was proposed and verified through experimentation. 展开更多

This paper examines the English translations of The Book of Chuang Tzu by Martin Palmer under Big Translation Theory,which emphasizes cyclical cultural reconstructions.Focusing on three phases-full translation,abridged adaptation and back translation-the study reveals how cultural and philosophical nuances are reshaped during interlingual,intralingual,and intersemiotic conversions.Textual analysis demonstrates that Palmer’s translations,while enhancing readability for Western readers,distorts some of the core Taoist concepts.While the full and abridged versions lead to cultural reconstructions,the back-translated text reflects that,under Big Translation Theory,such reconstructions help to integrate traditional Chinese cultural memory with Western discourse,forming a new type of collective cultural memory.By associating translation activities with building collective cultural memory,the study reveals the cross-cultural and social attributes in translating classical texts,which secures the communicative and prolonged nature of cultural essence. 展开更多

For improving global stability of mining environment reconstructing structure,the stress field evolution law of the structure with the filling height change of low-grade backfill was studied by ADINA finite element analysis code.Three kinds of filling schemes were designed and calculated,in which the filling heights were 2,4,and 7 m,separately.The results show that there are some rules in the stress field with the increase of the filling height as follows:(1) the maximum value of tension stress of the roof decreases gradually,and stress conditions are improved gradually;(2) the tension stress status in the vertical pillar is transformed into the compressive stress status,and the carrying capacity is improved gradually;however,when the filling height is beyond 2.8 m,the carrying capacity of the vertical pillar grows very slowly,so,there is little significance to continue to fill the low-grade backfill;(3) the bottom pillar suffers the squeezing action from the vertical pillars at first and then the gravity action of the low-grade backfill,and the maximum value of tension stress of the bottom pillar firstly increases and then decreases.Considering the economic factor,security and other factors,the low-grade backfill has the most reasonable height(2.8 m) in the scope of all filling height. 展开更多

Before 2008,the number of surface observation stations in China was small.Thus,the surface observation data were too sparse to effectively support the High-resolution China Meteorological Administration’s Land Assimilation System(HRCLDAS)which ultimately inhibited the output of high-resolution and high-quality gridded products.This paper proposes a statistical downscaling model based on a deep learning algorithm in super-resolution to research the above problem.Specifically,we take temperature as an example.The model is used to downscale the 0.0625°×0.0625°,2-m temperature data from the China Meteorological Administration’s Land Data Assimilation System(CLDAS)to 0.01°×0.01°,named CLDASSD.We performed quality control on the paired data from CLDAS and HRCLDAS,using data from 2018 and 2019.CLDASSD was trained on the data from 31 March 2018 to 28 February 2019,and then tested with the remaining data.Finally,extensive experiments were conducted in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region which features complex and diverse geomorphology.Taking the HRCLDAS product and surface observation data as the"true values"and comparing them with the results of bilinear interpolation,especially in complex terrain such as mountains,the root mean square error(RMSE)of the CLDASSD output can be reduced by approximately 0.1℃,and its structural similarity(SSIM)was approximately 0.2 higher.CLDASSD can estimate detailed textures,in terms of spatial distribution,with greater accuracy than bilinear interpolation and other sub-models and can perform the expected downscaling tasks. 展开更多

As an important part of land use/cover change(LUCC), historical LUCC in long time series attracts much more attention from scholars. Currently, based on the view of combining the overall control of cropland area and ′top-down′ decision-making behaviors, here are two global historical land-use datasets, generally referred as the Sustainability and the Global Environment datasets(SAGE datasets) and History Database of the Global Environment datasets(HYDE datasets). However, at the regional level, these global datasets have coarse resolutions and inevitable errors. Considering various factors that influenced cropland distribution, including cropland connectivity and the limitation of natural and human factors, this study developed a reconstruction model of historical cropland based on constrained Cellular Automaton(CA) of ′bottom-up′. Then, an available labor force index is used as a proxy for the amount of cropland to inspect and calibrate these spatial patterns. Applied the reconstruction model to Shandong Province, we reconstructed its spatial distribution of cropland during 8 periods. The reconstructed results show that: 1) it is properly suitable for constrained CA to simulate and reconstruct the spatial distribution of cropland in traditional cultivated region of China; 2) compared with ′SAGE datasets′ and ′HYDE datasets′, this study have formed higher-resolution Boolean spatial distribution datasets of historical cropland with a more definitive concept of spatial pattern in terms of fractional format. 展开更多

This study is proposed to reconstruct a high-resolution spatial distribution of historical land use pattern with all land use types to overcome low-accuracy and/or the monotonic land use type in current historical land use reconstruction studies. The year of 1820 is set as the temporal section and the administrative area of Jiangsu Province is the study area. Land use types being reconstructed include farmland, residential land (including both urban land and rural residential land), water body, and other land (including forest land, grassland, and unused land). Data sources mainly refer to historical documents, historical geographic research outcomes, contemporary statistics, and natural environmental data. With great considerations over regional natural resources and social and economic conditions, a few theoretical assumptions have been proposed to facilitate the adjustment on prefecture farmland, urban land, and rural residential land. Upholding the idea that the contemporary land use pattern has been inherently in sequence with the historical land use pattern as well as the land use pattern shall be consistent to its accessibility, this study reconstructs the land use pattern in Jiangsu Province in 1820 with 100 m*100 m grids based on accessibility analysis and comprehensive evaluation. The outcome has been tested as valid by regionalization and correlation analysis. The resulted spatial distribution shows that back in 1820 in Jiangsu Province: (1) farmland, urban land, rural residential land, water body, and other land take about 48.49%, 4.46%, 0.16%, 15.03%, and 31.86% of the total land area respectively; (2) the land use pattern features high proportion of land in farming while low-proportion land in non-farming uses while population, topography, and the density of water body lead to great spatial variations; and (3) the reconstruction methodology has been tested as reasonable based on significant positive correlations between 1820 data and 1985 for both farmland and rural residential land at the prefecture level. 展开更多

A high resolution range profile(HRRP) is a summation vector of the sub-echoes of the target scattering points acquired by a wide-band radar.Generally, HRRPs obtained in a noncooperative complex electromagnetic environment are contaminated by strong noise.Effective pre-processing of the HRRP data can greatly improve the accuracy of target recognition.In this paper, a denoising and reconstruction method for HRRP is proposed based on a Modified Sparse Auto-Encoder, which is a representative non-linear model.To better reconstruct the HRRP, a sparse constraint is added to the proposed model and the sparse coefficient is calculated based on the intrinsic dimension of HRRP.The denoising of the HRRP is performed by adding random noise to the input HRRP data during the training process and fine-tuning the weight matrix through singular-value decomposition.The results of simulations showed that the proposed method can both reconstruct the signal with fidelity and suppress noise effectively, significantly outperforming other methods, especially in low Signal-to-Noise Ratio conditions. 展开更多

Reconstructions of past seafloor age make it possible to quantify how plate tectonic forces,surface heat flow,ocean basin volume and global sea level have varied through geological time.However,past ocean basins that have now been subducted cannot be uniquely reconstructed,and a significant challenge is how to explore a wide range of possible reconstructions.Here,we investigate possible distributions of seafloor ages from the late Paleozoic to present using published full-plate reconstructions and a new,efficient seafloor age reconstruction workflow,all developed using the open-source software GPlates.We test alternative reconstruction models and examine the influence of assumed spreading rates within the Panthalassa Ocean on the reconstructed history of mean seafloor age,oceanic heat flow,and the contribution of ocean basin volume to global sea level.The reconstructions suggest variations in mean seafloor age of~15 Myr during the late Paleozoic,similar to the amplitude of variations previously proposed for the Cretaceous to present.Our reconstructed oceanic age-area distributions are broadly compatible with a scenario in which the long-period fluctuations in global sea level since the late Paleozoic are largely driven by changes in mean seafloor age.Previous suggestions of a constant rate of seafloor production through time can be modelled using our workflow,but require that oceanic plates in the Paleozoic move slower than continents based on current reconstructions of continental motion,which is difficult to reconcile with geodynamic studies. 展开更多

In high-resolution cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) using the flat-panel detector, imperfect or defect detector elements cause ring artifacts due to the none-uniformity of their X-ray response. They often disturb the image quality. A dedicated fitting correction method for high-resolution micro-CT is presented. The method converts each elementary X-ray response curve to an average one, and eliminates response inconsistency among pixels. Other factors of the method are discussed, such as the correction factor variability by different sampling frames and nonlinear factors over the whole spectrum. The decentralized fuzzy inference method(DFIM)is employed as an optimization technique to reconstruct time-and space-dependent heat flux of two-dimensional(2D)participating medium.The forward coupled radiative and conductive heat transfer problem is solved by a combination of finite volume method and discrete ordinate method.The reconstruction task is formulated as an inverse problem,and the DFIM is used to reconstruct the unknown heat flux.No prior information on the heat flux distribution is required for the inverse analysis.All retrieval results illustrate that the time-and spacedependent heat flux of participating medium can be exactly recovered by the DFIM.The present method is proved to be more efficient and accurate than other optimization techniques.The effects of heat flux form,initial guess,medium property,and measurement error on reconstruction results are investigated.Simulated results indicate that the DFIM is robust to reconstruct different kinds of heat fluxes even with noisy data. 展开更多

The traditional HMM algorithm is extended and adapted to the colored background noise. A new algorithm called EHMM (Extended HMM) algorithm is proposed, and mainly validated by simulation. The convergence of the algorithm is discussed. We make the numerical experiments and test our model using the two famous chaotic systems (mainly the Lorenz and Chen systems). The results show the relatively accurate reconstruction of these chaotic systems based on observational data can be obtained. The potential of dark energy V(φ) and the cosmological parameters, such as the dimensionless energy density Ωφ, Ωm, and the state parameter wφ, are connected to it. Concretely, by giving two kinds of parameterized deceleration parameters q(z) = a + bz/(1 + z) and q(z) = 1/2 + (az + b)/(1 + z)^2, the evolution of these parameters and the reconstructed potentials V(φ) are plotted and analysed. The construction of complex stratigraphic surfaces is widely employed in many fields, such as petroleum exploration, geological modeling, and geological structure analysis. It also serves as an important foundation for data visualization and visual analysis in these fields. The existing surface construction methods have several deficiencies and face various difficulties, such as the presence of multitype faults and roughness of resulting surfaces. In this paper, a surface modeling method that uses geometric partial differential equations (PDEs) is introduced for the construction of stratigraphic surfaces. It effectively solves the problem of surface roughness caused by the irregularity of stratigraphic data distribution. To cope with the presence of multitype complex faults, a two-way projection algorithm between three- dimensional space and a two-dimensional plane is proposed. Using this algorithm, a unified method based on geometric PDEs is developed for dealing with multitype faults. Moreover, the corresponding geometric PDE is derived, and an algorithm based on an evolutionary solution is developed. The algorithm proposed for constructing spatial surfaces with real data verifies its computational efficiency and its ability to handle irregular data distribution. In particular, it can reconstruct faulty surfaces, especially those with overthrust faults. 展开更多

A new method for reconstructing the compressed sensing color image by solving an optimization problem based on total variation in the quaternion field is proposed, which can effectively improve the reconstructing ability of the color image. First, the color image is converted from RGB (red, green, blue) space to CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) space, which is assigned to a quaternion matrix. Meanwhile, the quaternion matrix is converted into the information of the phase and amplitude by the Euler form of the quatemion. Secondly, the phase and amplitude of the quatemion matrix are used as the smoothness constraints for the compressed sensing (CS) problem to make the reconstructing results more accurate. Finally, an iterative method based on gradient is used to solve the CS problem. Experimental results show that by considering the information of the phase and amplitude, the proposed method can achieve better performance than the existing method that treats the three components of the color image as independent parts. 展开更多

After a great deal of numerical experiments, we found that the logistic map, xn +1= 1-uxn2 could be used in monthly mean temperature prediction when it was approaching the chaotic region, and its predictive results were in reverse states to the practical data. Methods: Superior gluteal nerve and pudendal nerve were observed and measured by the gross and microsurgical anatomical methods in 62 sides of 31 adult cadavers. Results: Superior gluteal nerve came out of the superior foreman of piriformis as 1 to 4 branches(29.03%,56.45%,12.90% and 1.61% respectively) and the pelvic-leaving points were mainly in the middle 1/3(85.48%) of the line from the posterior superior iliac spine to the ischial tuberosity. The length of the inferior branch of the superior gluteal nerve was more than 5 cm, and the distance between the pelvic-leaving points of the superior gluteal nerve and pudandal nerve was about 4 cm only. The pudendal nerve left the pelvis mainly in the middle 1/3(48.39%) of the line from the posterior superior iliac spine to the ischial tuberosity,or at the junction of its inferior-middle 1/3(46.77%). In clinic, we have successfully made the operation transferring the superior gluteal nerve to the pudendal nerve in 3 patients suffered from the injury of conus medullaris. Conclusion: Distance between the pelvic-leaving points of the superior gluteal nerve and the pudendal nerve is close, so the inferior branch of the gluteal nerve can be anastomosed with the pudendal nerve directly. Transferring the superior gluteal nerve with higher spinal segemental origin to the pudendal nerve of a lower spinal segemental origin is practical and easy. 展开更多
