Two opposite faces of a bar are coated by two isotropie layers with different materials of the original substrate that are perfectly bonded to the bar. With the Saint- Venant torsion theory, the governing equation of the problem in terms of the warping function is established and solved using the finite Fourier cosine transform. The state of stress on the cross-section, warping of the cross-section, and torsional rigidity of the bar are evaluated. Effects of thickness of the coating layers and material properties on these quantities are investigated. A set of graphs are provided that can be used to determine the coating thicknesses and material properties so as to keep the maximum von Mises stress on the cross-section below an allowable value for effective use of the coating layer.展开更多

The Darcy flow model is applied and the viscosity-temperature relation is assumed to be an inverse-linear one. The case of uniform heat flux on the walls, i.e. the H boundary condition in the terminology of Kays and Crawford [12], is treated. For the case of a fluid whose viscosity decreases with temperature, it is found that the effect of the variation is to increase the Nusselt number for heated walls. Having found the velocity and the temperature distribution, the second law of thermodynamics is invoked to find the local and average entropy generation rate. Expressions for the entropy generation rate, the Bejan number, the heat transfer irreversibility, and the fluid flow irreversibility are presented in terms of the Brinkman number, the Péclet number, the viscosity variation number, the dimensionless wall heat flux, and the aspect ratio (width to height ratio). These expressions let a parametric study of the problem based on which it is observed that the entropy generated due to flow in a duct of square cross-section is more than those of rectangular counterparts while increasing the aspect ratio decreases the entropy generation rate similar to what previously reported for the clear flow case by Ratts and Rant [14].展开更多

摘要This paper investigates the torsion analysis of coated bars with a rectangular cross-section. A set of graphs are provided that can be used to determine the coating thicknesses and material properties so as to keep the maximum von Mises stress on the cross-section below an allowable value for effective use of the coating layer.

摘要Effect of temperature-dependent viscosity on fully developed forced convection in a duct of rectangular cross-section occupied by a fluid-saturated porous medium is investigated analytically. These expressions let a parametric study of the problem based on which it is observed that the entropy generated due to flow in a duct of square cross-section is more than those of rectangular counterparts while increasing the aspect ratio decreases the entropy generation rate similar to what previously reported for the clear flow case by Ratts and Rant [14].

摘要Ultra-high-strength aluminumalloy profile is an ideal choice for aerospace structuralmaterials due to its excellent specific strength and corrosion resistance. However, issues such as uneven metal flow, stress concentration, and forming defects are prone to occur during their extrusion. This study focuses on an Al-Zn-Mg-Cu ultra-high-strength aluminum alloy profile with a double-U,multi-cavity thin-walled structure.Firstly, hot compression experiments were conducted at temperatures of 350○C,400○C,and 450○C,with strain rates of 0.01 and 1.0 s−1,to investigate the plastic deformation behavior of the material.Subsequently,a 3D coupled thermo-mechanical extrusion simulation model was established using Deform-3D to systematically analyze the influence of die structure and process parameters on metal flow velocity, effective stress/strain,and temperature distribution. The simulation revealed significant velocity differences, stress concentration, and uneven temperature distribution.Key parameters, including mesh density, extrusion ratio, die fillet, and bearing length, were optimized through full-factorial experiments. This optimization, combined with a stepped flow-guiding die design, effectively improved the metal flow pattern during extrusion.Trial production based on both the initial and optimized parameters were carried out.A comparative analysis demonstrates that the optimized scheme results in a final profile whose cross-section matches the target design closely, with complete filling of complex features and no obvious forming defects. This research provides a valuable reference for the extrusion process optimization and die design of complex-section profiles made from ultra-high-strength aluminum alloys.

摘要Super-large-span and variable cross-section tunnels have proliferated in urban expressway systems across China. However, the deformation behavior and load distribution mechanisms in super-large and variable cross-section tunnels remain inadequately understood. This study systematically analyzed the mechanical response characteristics of super-large-span and variable cross-section tunnels in weak surrounding rock based on extensive field monitoring data.Mechanical tests were conducted to reveal the strain-softening characteristics of weak surrounding rock, and the nonlinear evolution of strength parameters was summarized.Through secondary development,a novel constitutive model based on the Hoek-Brown strength criterion was proposed and successfully implemented in FLAC3D.Furthermore,numerical simulations were conducted using an improved constitutive model. These simulations investigated the evolution of deformation and internal forces within the support system, accounting for the coupled effects of multiple factors. The research shows that the rock pillar compensates for the insufficient stiffness of temporary middle diaphragms. However,it also alters the mechanical behavior of the steel frame system, which leads to significant stress concentrations at the arch shoulders.Additionally, the"asymmetrical loading effect"commonly observed at variable cross-sections substantially impacts the support system within these span transition zones.

摘要Continuous variable cross-section recycled extrusion(CVCE)is an advanced technique of severe plastic deformation.Ti–6Al–4V alloy was deformed with different processing parameters by CVCE,and then the microstructure characterization, refinement mechanism and deformation mechanism were investigated simultaneously. The results demonstrate that the average size of grain is refined from 14 to 2.78μm as Ti–6Al–4V alloy is deformed at 800℃ with a speed of 2 mm/s over 6 passes, and the microstructure is equiaxed and distributed homogeneously along the radial direction.Furthermore,in the process of CVCE,basal slip(0001)is transformed to prismatic slip(100)system and pyramidal slip(112)system,with a reduction in low angle grain boundaries from 69.6%to 61.2%.Moreover,the grain refinement mechanism of CVCE is dislocation multiplication and cross-slip migration within the grain at the initial stage of deformation, which results in the formation of substructures and micro-shear bands as well as grain refinement. In addition, the nucleation and growth of dynamic recrystallization grains are beneficial to eliminating the dislocations, subgrain boundaries and other defects in the matrix, which finally results in the grains refinement.

摘要Background:Benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)is prevalent among aging men.Whether exposure to internet-derived health information is associated with disease awareness and symptom burden at initial diagnosis remains unclear. Methods:We conducted a cross-sectional study of 400 newly diagnosed BPH outpatients.Participants were classified by prior exposure to internet-derived BPH content.BPH awareness and International Prostate Symptom Scores(IPSS)were compared using the Mann-Whitney U test and multivariate linear regression adjusted for age, education, and disposable income.Stratified analyses were performed according to educational attainment, disposable income, and content format. Results:Exposure to internet-derived BPH content was independently associated with higher awareness and lower IPSS.Compared with unexposed participants, exposed participants had higher awareness(median 1.5 vs.0)and lower IPSS(median 7.0 vs.10.5)(both p<0.001).In multivariable models, being unexposed was associated with a 1.39-point lower awareness score and a 2.20-point higher IPSS(both p<0.001).In stratified analyses, the associations remained significant across education and income strata.Among exposed participants, those accessing text-based or mixed-format content had higher awareness and lower IPSS than those exposed to videos only(both p<0.001).Conclusions:This study shows that exposure to internet-derived health content is significantly associated with higher BPH awareness and a lower symptom burden at initial presentation.Text-based or mixed-format content may be more effective than video-only formats.

摘要Tree trunk cross-sections are essential for forest condition analysis.Handheld laser scanning(HLS),a portable three-dimensional digitization technology, has captured considerable interest, due to the efficiency brought by its portability and flexibility. However, the accuracy of HLS is limited by its lightweight design, leading to point clouds with a thickness of 3 to 8 cm for tree trunk surfaces. This reduces the accuracy of cross-section characterization. Here,we propose a Kalman filter-based reconstruction algorithm to improve HLS-derived tree trunk cross-sections.The method transforms the point cloud from Cartesian to polar coordinates based on a density-based reference direction, and applies Kalman filtering for reconstruction.Diameter at breast height(DBH)is then calculated using a simulated diameter tape.Validation with HLS data at different accuracy levels shows that the proposed algorithm outperforms traditional geometric fitting methods, providing more accurate representations of irregular trunk cross-sections.It achieves a higher intersection over union of 86.98±7.67%vs.84.33±11.08%,and a lower root mean square error in DBH estimation(1.96 cm vs.2.48 cm). This approach enhances HLS accuracy and provides a promising solution for advancing portable laser scanning technology, which brings opportunity to revolutionize traditional field inventories.
摘要We investigated the impact of convexity and isoperimetric deficits on the accuracy of sectional area estimates of tree stems using traditional methods(caliper, tape, formulas based on stem diameter and circumference). In two complementary experiments, the use of photographs to estimate cross-sectional areas was first validated, then the use of a caliper and diameter tape was computer-simulated.The results indicated that the photographic method offers high precision, with mean relative errors below 0.1%,minimal deviation, and no significant bias, and the traditional methods led to substantial and systematic errors, with deviations from circularity and convexity significantly increasing the errors in area estimation.

摘要BACKGROUND In the rural mountainous areas of Guangyuan, elderly patients with malignant tumors are poorly managed in terms of toxic side effects after comprehensive antitumor therapy, severely affecting their treatment adherence.AIM To explore the factors influencing treatment adherence in elderly cancer patients in rural mountainous Guangyuan and clarify the relative importance of each factor.METHODS This multicenter cross-sectional survey assessed 103 elderly patients with malignant tumors in rural mountainous areas of Guangyuan who completed core scales.Research tools included the Supportive Care Needs Survey Short Form, the Patient-Reported Outcomes version of the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events, the Comprehensive Score for financial Toxicity, psychological sta-tus scales(Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale/Distress Thermometer/Social Support Rating Scale),and the Medication Adherence Scale.Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, multiple linear regression, and relative weight analysis were used for data processing.RESULTS The average Medication Adherence Scale score was 4.12±1.85 points, with 53.9%of patients having poor treatment adherence.Univariate and correlation analyses showed that supportive care needs, symptom severity, financial toxicity,anxiety/depression,and lack of social support were all significantly correlated with treatment adherence(all P<0.05).On multivariate analysis, financial toxicity was the primary associated factor(relative weight 28.40%),with direct medical costs having the strongest negative independent association(β=-0.312,P=0.001).Symptom burden, especially fatigue(β=-0.254,P=0.002),and psychological status(β=0.234,P=0.005)were the second and third most influential factors, respectively, whereas social support was a protective factor.Supportive care needs also had an independent influence. The comprehensive model explained 51.8%of the variance in treatment adherence(R2=0.518,P<0.001).CONCLUSION The treatment adherence of elderly patients with malignant tumors in the rural mountainous areas of Guangyuan is jointly influenced by multidimensional factors.Financial toxicity had the strongest association with treatment adherence, while symptom management and psychological support serve as key supporting elements. This study provides a clear direction for the development of precise medical management and policies for this special population and the construction of a comprehensive intervention model.
摘要BACKGROUND Accurate estimation of urinary bladder volume(UBV)is important for diagnosing and managing bladder disorders.Computed tomography(CT)is often used as a reference standard;however, existing measurement methods vary in complexity and efficiency.AIM To determine whether UBV can be accurately estimated on CT using a single sagittal measurement compared with multidimensional measurements and reference volumetric analysis.METHODS CT abdomen-pelvis studies of 80 individuals without urinary tract pathology were retrospectively analyzed.Bladder volume was determined using manual volumetric tracing as the reference standard.Sagittal long axis[sagittal length(SL)],sagittal short axis[sagittal short(SS)],and transverse diameter[right-to-left(RL)]were measured, and single-and multidimensional products(SL,SL×SS,SL×SS×RL)were correlated with reference volume using Pearson correlation coefficients.Linear regression models were derived, and agreement was assessed using Bland-Altman analysis.RESULTS SL demonstrated the strongest single-dimension correlation with bladder volume(r=0.92),compared with SS(r=0.87)and RL(r=0.68).Multidimensional measurements showed slightly higher correlations(SL×SS:r=0.98;SL×SS×RL:r=0.99).A simplified linear formula was derived:Bladder volume(mL)=5×SL(mm)-222.Bland-Altman analysis showed negligible bias and all values within the limits of agreement for the single-dimension model.CONCLUSION UBV can be accurately estimated using a single sagittal CT measurement in healthy individuals. This simplified approach provides a rapid and reproducible alternative to multidimensional methods without meaningful loss of accuracy and may serve as a reference standard for validating ultrasound-based bladder volume estimation.
摘要BACKGROUND Cognitive impairment is a well-recognized complication of liver diseases, primarily associated with cirrhotic portal hypertension. However, its spectrum and prevalence in patients with non-cirrhotic portal hypertension due to hepatosplenic schistosomiasis(HSS)remain poorly characterized, particularly regarding domains beyond minimal hepatic encephalopathy(MHE).AIM To characterize cognitive performance and determine the prevalence of deficits across multiple domains in a large cohort of patients with HSS.METHODS This cross-sectional study enrolled 200 adult patients with confirmed HSS at a Brazilian reference center.Participants underwent a comprehensive psychometric battery, including Mini-Mental State Examination for global cognition, the animal verbal fluency test for MHE and semantic fluency, the clock drawing test for visuospatial and executive functions, the digit span test(DST)for attention and working memory, and the Goo-Go test for inhibitory control.Impairment was defined using established,education-adjusted cut-offs.RESULTS The cohort had a mean age of 56.4 years and limited formal education(mean 4.9 years).Global cognitive impairment, defined as a Mini-Mental Examination Score<25,was identified in 36.5%of patients.Domain-specific assessment revealed a high prevalence of deficits in visuospatial and planning abilities, affecting 67%of patients according to the clock drawing test.Working memory impairments were detected in 53.5%(forward DST)and 83%(backward DST)of participants.Abnormal performance on the Go/No-Go test, indicating deficits in inhibitory control, was observed in 66.5%of the sample. The animal verbal fluency test identified MHE in 24.5%of participants,a finding significantly associated with lower educational attainment(P<0.01).Notably,while MHE was strongly linked to the presence of portosystemic shunts(P=0.0018),deficits in other cognitive domains were highly prevalent regardless of portosystemic shunts status.CONCLUSION Cognitive impairment in HSS is highly prevalent and encompasses a broad range of deficits, extending well beyond MHE.These findings support the implementation of routine, multidimensional cognitive screening in standard management of HSS patients.

摘要Objective:To investigate the prevalence of fatigue and identify its associated influencing factors in patients with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD),thereby providing an evidence base for targeted clinical interventions. Methods:A cross-sectional survey design was adopted.A total of 204 patients with confirmed IBD diagnoses were consecutively enrolled from the gastroenterology outpatient clinics and inpatient wards of a tertiary-level hospital in Shiyan,Hubei Province,China, between June 2023 and June 2024.Fatigue was assessed using the IBD-Fatigue(IBD-F)scale.Sociodemographic characteristics,disease-related parameters, inflammatory biomarkers, and psychological status were simultaneously collected.Univariable analyses and multivariable logistic regression were performed to identify independent determinants of fatigue. Results:Among the 204 enrolled IBD patients,142(69.61%)had fatigue(IBD-F≥13).Univariable analyses revealed that sex, disease activity status,anemia,C-reactive protein(CRP)level, serum albumin level, sleep quality, anxiety, and depression were significantly associated with fatigue occurrence(all p<0.05).Multivariable logistic regression identified active disease phase(OR=3.12,95%CI:1.54–6.31,p=0.002),comorbid anemia(OR=2.87,95%CI:1.42–5.80,p=0.004),elevated CRP(OR=2.43,95%CI:1.21–4.88,p=0.013),poor sleep quality(OR=2.19,95%CI:1.10–4.36,p=0.026),and comorbid depression(OR=3.56,95%CI:1.76–7.19,p=0.001)as independent risk factors for fatigue;serum albumin≥35 g/L was identified as a protective factor(OR=0.48,95%CI:0.24–0.96,p=0.037).Fatigue was significantly and negatively correlated with health-related quality of life(r=−0.61,p<0.001).Conclusion:The prevalence of fatigue in IBD patients is as high as 69.61%,and it is independently associated with disease activity, elevated inflammatory markers, anemia, sleep disturbance, and depression, significantly impairing patients’quality of life.Routine fatigue screening and comprehensive multidimensional management strategies should be integrated into standard IBD care.
摘要Objective The relationship between non-high-density lipoprotein(NHDL)cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)ratio(NHHR)and stoke remains unknown. This study aimed to evaluate the association between the adult NHHR and stroke occurrence in the United States of America(USA).Methods To clarify the relationship between the NHHR and stroke risk, this study used a multivariable logistic regression model and a restricted cubic spline(RCS)model to investigate the association between the NHHR and stroke, and data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(NHANES)from 2005 to 2018.Subgroup and sensitivity analyses were conducted to test the robustness of the results. Results This study included 29,928 adult participants,of which 1,165 participants had a history of stroke.Logistic regression analysis of variables demonstrated a positive association between NHHR and stroke(OR 1.24,95%CI:1.03-1.50,P=0.026).Compared with the lowest reference group of NHHR,participants in the second, third, and fourth quartile had a significantly increased risk of stroke after full adjustments(OR:1.35,95%CI:1.08-1.69)(OR:1.83,95%CI:1.42-2.36)(OR:2.04,95%CI:1.50-2.79).In the total population,a nonlinear dose-response relationship was observed between the NHHR and stroke risk(P non-linearity=0.002).This association remained significant in several subgroup analyses.Further investigation of the NHHR may enhance our understanding of stroke prevention and treatment. Conclusion Our findings suggest a positive correlation between the NHHR and an increased prevalence of stroke, potentially serving as a novel predictive factor for stroke.Timely intervention and management of the NHHR may effectively mitigate stroke occurrence.Prospective studies are required to validate this association and further explore the underlying biological mechanisms.

摘要To investigate the effects of the maximum principal stress direction(θ)and cross-section shape on the failure characteristics of sandstone,true-triaxial compression experiments were conducted using cubic samples with rectangular, circular, and D-shaped holes.Asθincreases from 0°to 60°in the rectangular hole, the left failure location shifts from the left corner to the left sidewall, the left corner, and then the floor, while the right failure location shifts from the right corner to the right sidewall, right roof corner, and then the roof.Furthermore, the initial failure vertical stress first decreases and then increases. In comparison, the failure severity in the rectangular hole decreases for variousθvalues as 30°>45°>60°>0°.With increasingθ,the fractal dimension(D)of rock slices first increases and then decreases. For the rectangular and D-shaped holes,whenθ=0°,30°,and 90°,D for the rectangular hole is less than that of the D-shaped hole.Whenθ=45°and 60°,D for the rectangular hole is greater than that of the D-shaped hole.Theoretical analysis indicates that the stress concentration at the rectangular and D-shaped corners is greater than the other areas. The failure location rotates with the rotation ofθ,and the failure occurs on the side with a high concentration of compressive stress, while the side with the tensile and compressive stresses remains relatively stable. Therefore, the fundamental reason for the rotation of failure location is the rotation of stress concentration, and the external influencing factor is the rotation ofθ.
