Carex sect.Paniceae sensu lato(s.l.)exhibits two major disjunct centers of diversity:eastern North America and East Asia.This pattern,commonly observed in other plant groups,has been associated with trans-Pacific disp...Carex sect.Paniceae sensu lato(s.l.)exhibits two major disjunct centers of diversity:eastern North America and East Asia.This pattern,commonly observed in other plant groups,has been associated with trans-Pacific dispersal from Asia to America and subsequent local extinctions in western North America.This study reconstructed a phylogenetic tree using two nuclear(external transcribed spacer and internal transcribed spacer)and three plastid(matK,trnL-F,and rpl32-trnLUAG)regions,along with 474 nuclear loci from high-throughput sequencing(Hyb-Seq).Dating analysis and ancestral area reconstruction were used to investigate the evolutionary and biogeographic history of sect.Paniceae s.l.A broader circumscription of sect.Paniceae s.l.,incorporating sects.Bicolores and Laxiflorae,is established.Two primary clades were identified:one clade predominantly diversified in North America and the other in East Asia.Biogeographic analyses suggested a likely origin of sect.Paniceae s.l.in the Palearctic during the Late Miocene.The most probable scenario involved dispersal to eastern North America via the Western Palearctic,followed by subsequent dispersal into western North America,other parts of the continent,and back to the Old World.Within East Asia,the group was inferred to have diversified during the Pliocene and Pleistocene,with the basalmost nodes inferred in China's Mainland.Multiple dispersal events from this region to the Russian Far East,Korea,and Japan were inferred.This study highlights the underexplored role of East Asia in the biogeography of grass-like plants and the existence of alternative migration routes in explaining the East Asia-eastern North America pattern of disjunction.展开更多

There are particular challenges in barcoding plants, especially for distinguishing closely related species. Hence, there is an urgent need to evaluate the performance of candidate loci for distinguishing between species, especially closely related species, to complement the rbcL + matK combination suggested as the core barcode for land plants. We sampled 48 individuals representing 12 species in Primula sect. Proliferae Pax in China to evaluate the performance of eight leading candidate barcode loci (matK, rbcL, rpoB, rpoC1, trnH-psb.4, psbK-psbI, atpF- atpH, and internal transcribed spacer (ITS)). The core combination rbcL + matK gave only 50% species resolution in sect. Proliferae. In terms ofintraspecies and interspecies divergence, degree of monophyly, and sequence similarity, ITS, trnH-psbA, and psbK-psbI showed good performance as single-locus barcodes. Internal transcribed spacer displayed the highest genetic divergence and best discriminatory power, both alone and in combination with rbcL + matK (83.3% species resolution). We recommend evaluating the use of ITS for barcoding in other species. Low or single copy nuclear regions would provide more sophisticated barcoding tools in the long term, even though further research is required to find suitable loci.展开更多
Ccirex sect.Confertf/Iorae s.l.is a medium-sized species group(ca.40 species)with its center of diversity in E Asia(China and Japan).According to morphological traits,the section has been proposed to split into two se...Ccirex sect.Confertf/Iorae s.l.is a medium-sized species group(ca.40 species)with its center of diversity in E Asia(China and Japan).According to morphological traits,the section has been proposed to split into two sections(sects.Confertiflorae sensu Ohwi and Molliculae Ohwi)up to five different ones(sects.Confertiflorae s.s.,Molliculae,Dispalatae Ohwi,Ischnostachyae Ohwi,and Alliiformes Akiyama).Recent phylogenetic reconstructions showed Confertiflorae s.l.not to be monophyletic,as species traditionally considered part of it were found to belong to other clades,whereas species traditionally ascribed to other sections were nested within it.In this study,we investigated the phylogenetic structure,morphological affinities,and biogeographic history of sect.Confertiflorae s.l.We employed a taxon-based approach to explore the morphological affinities of the species considered in sect.Confertiflorae and compared the micromorphology of the nutlets of almost all the taxa using SEM.We included 40 samples representing 31 species/subspecies of sect.Confertiflorae s.l.and used two nuclear(ETS and ITS)and three plastid(trnL-F,matK,and rpl32-trnLUAC)molecular markers to reconstruct the phylogeny of the group.The phylogenetic analyses confirmed the polyphyly of sect.Confertiflorae s.l.,whose representatives were found within five distinct clades.From these,two clades,sect.Confertiflorae and sect.Molliculae,were found to be closely related and contained the majority of the species.The composition of the two dades agreed with the morphological structure of the group,and we confirmed an exclusive combination of features(namely color of basal sheaths,presence of bract sheath,peduncle of lowest spike,inflorescence sex distribution,shape of pistillate glume apex,and color and veins of utricle,among others)characterizing each of the two clades.The origin of the two clades was found to be in the early Pliocene;however,the majority of the diversification events within each clade took place during the Pleistocene.This illustrates that although Asia has been regarded as having little potential ecological space for Carex to diversify due to its climate stability,groups of sedges sub-endemic from that area may have a fairly recent origin related to glaciations.We proposed the rearrangement of sect.Confertiflorae as previously conceived as three independent sections:the monotypic Alliiformes,sect Molliculae,and sect.Paludosae.展开更多
Saxifraga L.is the largest genus in Saxifragaceae and a characteristic component of the herbaceous flora of the temperate and alpine mountains in the Northern Hemisphere.Section Irregulares is a small group of 15-20 s...Saxifraga L.is the largest genus in Saxifragaceae and a characteristic component of the herbaceous flora of the temperate and alpine mountains in the Northern Hemisphere.Section Irregulares is a small group of 15-20 species,representing one of the early-diverged lineages in the genus characterized with unique zygomorphic flowers.We used both nuclear internal transcribed spacer and chloroplast DNA regions(psbA-trnH,trnL-F,and matK)to reconstruct its species relationships,estimate divergence times,and infer its historical biogeography.Our phylogenetic results corroborate the monophyly of sect.Irregulares and its sister relationship to sect.Heterisia from North America.The section was well resolved into two lineages corresponding to their morphological features and biogeographic distributions.One represents ser.Stoloniferae including S.stolonifera Curtis and S.nipponica Makino with long-creeping stolonshizomes and small petals with spots and the other comprises the remaining taxa(ser.Rufescentes)which lack long-creeping rhizomes.Spots on leaves(abaxially spotted vs.abaxially without spots)and spots on petals(without spots vs.with spots)are inferred to be phylogenetically informative within ser.Rufescentes.Divergence time estimates and ancestral area analysis suggested a western North American origin of sect.Irregulares with migration into East Asia by way of the Bering land bridge in the Middle Oligocene.The development of drying and desertification belt in the late Miocene could have played an important role in the subsequent restriction and separation of the north and south lineages within eastern Asia.展开更多

Atragene is revised in this paper based on the examination of a large number of herbarium specimens, extensive field observations, and morphometric analyses. Brief taxonomic history and geographical distribution of the section are given, the relationships among the species are discussed, and the evolutionary trends of some characters in the section are evaluated. The staminodes of the plants in this section may have evolved from the outer stamens with petaloid filaments and gradually disappearing anthers. Subsequently, they may have evolved in two different ways. One possibility is that the staminodes elongate and become lanceolate, as long as sepals, and their apices turn into attenuate. The other is that the staminodes are spathulate, but not elongating, as long as stamens, and their apices turn into retuse from obtuse and rounded. The evolutionary trend of sepals may be from thin to thick in texture, and the veins from non-prominent to prominent. As a result, five new series are established and nine species, two subspecies and nine varieties (including three new ranks) are recognized in this section. An identification key is provided, and each taxon is described and illustrated. Clematis sibirica and Clematis ochotensis are treated as subspecies of Clematis alpina due to their subtle differences and lack of, or few, overlapping distributions. Clematis fusijamana and Clematisfauriei are recognized as varieties of C. alpina ssp. ochotensis for the continuous variation of the velutinous strips on the sepal margins. Clematis iliensis is treated as variety of C. alpina ssp. sibirica for the continuous variation of leaf division types. Extensive variations in sepal color and basal caruncle size support degrading Clematis chiisanensis as a variety of Clematis koreana. The North American ser. Occientales may be primitive, whereas ser. Macropetalae may be the most advanced taxon in this section. Ser. Alpinae and ser. Koreanae are closely related to each other. However, the systematic position of ser. Tomentosae cannot be determined based on morphological characters alone in the present study.展开更多

As a result, nine species were recognized: Lepisorus macrosphaerus (Baker) Ching, Lepisorus asterolepis (Baker) Ching, Lepisorus marginatus Ching, Lepisorus kuchenensis (Y.C. Wu) Ching, Lepisorus megasorus (C. Chr.) Ching, Lepisorus kawakamii (Hayata) Tagawa, Lepisorus subsessilis Ching & Y.X. Lin, Lepisorus affinis Ching, and Lepisorus nudus (Hook.) Ching. Lepisorus kawakamii (Hayata) Tagawa was reinstated; Lepisorus gyirongensis Ching & S.K. Wu and Lepisorus longus Ching were reduced to synonyms ofL. nudus and L. affinis, respectively. The subdivision ofLepisorus macrosphaerus was not accepted. Rhizome scales and paraphyses are the most useful characters for species delimitation as well as for infrageneric classification. Characteristics of the leaf epidermis and spore ornamentation are usually stable and thus of great significance in understanding the relationships among groups within the genus.展开更多

Persica are not only important fruit trees, but also popular ornamental and medicinal plants. Correct identification of seedlings, barks, or fruit kernels is sometimes required, but no reliable morphological characters are available. Nowadays, the technique of DNA barcoding has the potential to meet such requirements. In this study, we evaluated the suitability of 11 DNA loci (atpB-rbcL, trnH-psbA, trnL-F, trnS-G, atpF-H, rbcL, matK, rpoB, rpoC1, nadl, and internal transcribed spacer [ITS]) as candidate DNA barcodes for peaches, using samples from 38 populations, covering all the species in sect. Persica. On the whole, the primers worked well in this group and sequencing difficulties were met only in the case of ITS locus. Five loci (rbcL, matK, rpoB, rpoC, and nadl ) have very low variation rates, whereas atpB-rbcL, atpF-H, trnH-psbA, trnL-F and trnS-G show more variability. The most variable loci, atpB-rbcL and trnH-psbA, can distinguish three of the five species. Two two-locus combinations, atpB-rbcL+trnL-F and atpB-rbcL+atpF-H, can resolve all five species. We also find that identification powers of the loci are method-dependent. The NeighborNet method shows higher species identification power than maximum parsimony, neighbor joining, and unweighted pair group method with arithmetic mean methods. Codonoprasum Rchb., a...Allium paniculatum L. is commonly recorded from the Euro-Mediterranean and Irano-Turanian regions. Evidence from literature and herbarium collections revealed that many different taxa of A. sect. Codonoprasum Rchb., all characterized by big size, diffuse and densely flowered umbrella, very long spathe valves, long pedicels, and cylindrical-campanulate perigon, have been wrongly attributed to this species thus affecting records on its geographic distribution and morphological characterization. In order to define the true identity of A. paniculatum, we analyzed specimens coming from the type locality (Don River), and provided details on morphology, ecology, karyology, leaf anatomy, seed morphology and seed coat micro-sculpturing. Taxonomic and phylogenetic relationships with related species of sect. Codonoprasum and with other taxa of different sections were investigated by means of morphological characters and molecular data from the internal transcribed spacers (ITS) nrDNA and the trnH-psbA cpDNA region. Maximum parsimony and Bayesian inference analyses of molecular data recovered two main clades in A. sect. Codonoprasum and clearly separated A. paniculatum from related taxa. The taxonomic implications of these patterns of relationships are discussed. To our knowledge, this is the first study documenting in-depth phylogenetic relationships within A. sect. We conducted a phy...The circumscriptions of sections Auganthus Pax ex Balf. f. and Ranunculoides Chen et C. M. Hu in the genus Primula L. have been controversial, due to the different treatments of P. filchnerae Knuth. We conducted a phylogenetic analysis using sequences from the ITS region of nuclear ribosomal DNA. All five species of these two sections and some representatives of other related sections were sampled. The ITS trees show that P. filchnerae could be convincingly placed in sect. Auganthus , together with P. sinensis Sabine ex Lindl. and P. rupestris Balf. f. et Farrer, whereas sect. Ranunculoides contains two species: P. cicutariifolia Pax and P. merrilliana Schltr. These two sections are distantly related and their association with other sections needs further studies. This study also demonstrated that ITS sequences would be a suitable marker for the reconstruction of Primula phylogeny.展开更多
To the Editor:Abeleda et al.[1]recently argued in a perspective article that the Philippines should do better in order to achieve its goal of reducing schistosomiasis incidence to zero in humans,animals,and snails by ...To the Editor:Abeleda et al.[1]recently argued in a perspective article that the Philippines should do better in order to achieve its goal of reducing schistosomiasis incidence to zero in humans,animals,and snails by 2025[2,3].The authors appropriately ascribed the need to ramp up surveillance,WASH(water,sanitation,and hygiene),and veterinary efforts.In this letter,I would like to add to the discussion that the key to achieving schistosomiasis elimination may be strengthening the veterinary public health sector and framing mitigation efforts within the One Health lens.Schistosoma(S.)japonicum infection is a zoonotic disease and it affects more than 40 species of animals,including livestock animals like cattle,pigs,and water buffaloes,and pets like dogs[4].In the Philippines,the prevalence of infection in animal reservoirs remains largely unknown in most endemic areas due to the lack of concerted epidemiological efforts unlike what is being done in human hosts.In areas where studies have been done,infection rates are from less than 10%to 97%in water buffaloes tested[5-7].Indeed,as Abeleda et al.[1]argued,there is a need to do better on this front.展开更多

Cyathophora is a distinctive group endemic to the eastern Himalaya-Hengduan Mountains region. It was regarded as a 'grex' or section and included all four general corolla types of Pedicularis. A unique feature of it is that the leaf and bract bases are fused together to form a cup-like structure around the stem at each node. Pollen morphology of seven species in sect. Cyathophora was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and light microscopy (LM). Two different pollen apertures could be distinguished (i.e. trisyncolpate and bisyncolpate) using LM, while examination with SEM made it possible to recognize three types of exine ornamentation (i.e. microscabrate, microfoveolate and microreticulate). The microfoveolate exine ornamentation was found in trisyncolpate pollen grains for the first time. Possible relationships between pollen data and the corolla types were discussed. Comparisons of floral and phyllotaxy characters of the genus Pedicularis, together with the pollen characters of sect. Cyathophora, could help us to better understand the evolutionary trends in Pedicularis.展开更多

摘要Ccirex sect.Confertf/Iorae s.l.is a medium-sized species group(ca.40 species)with its center of diversity in E Asia(China and Japan).According to morphological traits,the section has been proposed to split into two sections(sects.Confertiflorae sensu Ohwi and Molliculae Ohwi)up to five different ones(sects.Confertiflorae s.s.,Molliculae,Dispalatae Ohwi,Ischnostachyae Ohwi,and Alliiformes Akiyama).Recent phylogenetic reconstructions showed Confertiflorae s.l.not to be monophyletic,as species traditionally considered part of it were found to belong to other clades,whereas species traditionally ascribed to other sections were nested within it.In this study,we investigated the phylogenetic structure,morphological affinities,and biogeographic history of sect.Confertiflorae s.l.We employed a taxon-based approach to explore the morphological affinities of the species considered in sect.Confertiflorae and compared the micromorphology of the nutlets of almost all the taxa using SEM.We included 40 samples representing 31 species/subspecies of sect.Confertiflorae s.l.and used two nuclear(ETS and ITS)and three plastid(trnL-F,matK,and rpl32-trnLUAC)molecular markers to reconstruct the phylogeny of the group.The phylogenetic analyses confirmed the polyphyly of sect.Confertiflorae s.l.,whose representatives were found within five distinct clades.From these,two clades,sect.Confertiflorae and sect.Molliculae,were found to be closely related and contained the majority of the species.The composition of the two dades agreed with the morphological structure of the group,and we confirmed an exclusive combination of features(namely color of basal sheaths,presence of bract sheath,peduncle of lowest spike,inflorescence sex distribution,shape of pistillate glume apex,and color and veins of utricle,among others)characterizing each of the two clades.The origin of the two clades was found to be in the early Pliocene;however,the majority of the diversification events within each clade took place during the Pleistocene.This illustrates that although Asia has been regarded as having little potential ecological space for Carex to diversify due to its climate stability,groups of sedges sub-endemic from that area may have a fairly recent origin related to glaciations.We proposed the rearrangement of sect.Confertiflorae as previously conceived as three independent sections:the monotypic Alliiformes,sect Molliculae,and sect.Paludosae.

摘要Saxifraga L.is the largest genus in Saxifragaceae and a characteristic component of the herbaceous flora of the temperate and alpine mountains in the Northern Hemisphere.Section Irregulares is a small group of 15-20 species,representing one of the early-diverged lineages in the genus characterized with unique zygomorphic flowers.We used both nuclear internal transcribed spacer and chloroplast DNA regions(psbA-trnH,trnL-F,and matK)to reconstruct its species relationships,estimate divergence times,and infer its historical biogeography.Our phylogenetic results corroborate the monophyly of sect.Irregulares and its sister relationship to sect.Heterisia from North America.The section was well resolved into two lineages corresponding to their morphological features and biogeographic distributions.One represents ser.Stoloniferae including S.stolonifera Curtis and S.nipponica Makino with long-creeping stolonshizomes and small petals with spots and the other comprises the remaining taxa(ser.Rufescentes)which lack long-creeping rhizomes.Spots on leaves(abaxially spotted vs.abaxially without spots)and spots on petals(without spots vs.with spots)are inferred to be phylogenetically informative within ser.Rufescentes.Divergence time estimates and ancestral area analysis suggested a western North American origin of sect.Irregulares with migration into East Asia by way of the Bering land bridge in the Middle Oligocene.The development of drying and desertification belt in the late Miocene could have played an important role in the subsequent restriction and separation of the north and south lineages within eastern Asia.

摘要Clematis sect. Atragene is revised in this paper based on the examination of a large number of herbarium specimens, extensive field observations, and morphometric analyses. Brief taxonomic history and geographical distribution of the section are given, the relationships among the species are discussed, and the evolutionary trends of some characters in the section are evaluated. The staminodes of the plants in this section may have evolved from the outer stamens with petaloid filaments and gradually disappearing anthers. Subsequently, they may have evolved in two different ways. One possibility is that the staminodes elongate and become lanceolate, as long as sepals, and their apices turn into attenuate. The other is that the staminodes are spathulate, but not elongating, as long as stamens, and their apices turn into retuse from obtuse and rounded. The evolutionary trend of sepals may be from thin to thick in texture, and the veins from non-prominent to prominent. As a result, five new series are established and nine species, two subspecies and nine varieties (including three new ranks) are recognized in this section. An identification key is provided, and each taxon is described and illustrated. Clematis sibirica and Clematis ochotensis are treated as subspecies of Clematis alpina due to their subtle differences and lack of, or few, overlapping distributions. Clematis fusijamana and Clematisfauriei are recognized as varieties of C. alpina ssp. ochotensis for the continuous variation of the velutinous strips on the sepal margins. Clematis iliensis is treated as variety of C. alpina ssp. sibirica for the continuous variation of leaf division types. Extensive variations in sepal color and basal caruncle size support degrading Clematis chiisanensis as a variety of Clematis koreana. The North American ser. Occientales may be primitive, whereas ser. Macropetalae may be the most advanced taxon in this section. Ser. Alpinae and ser. Koreanae are closely related to each other. However, the systematic position of ser. Tomentosae cannot be determined based on morphological characters alone in the present study.

摘要Dryopteris sect.Diclisodon is a small section of ferns with about 12 species mainly distributed in East Asia.Here,we carried out morphological and phylogenetic analyses of this section.A new species from southwest China,D.gaoligongensis,is described and illustrated.Dryopteris gaoligongensis resembles D.indonesiana and D.sparsa,but differs by having a creeping rhizome and large 4-pinnate fronds.We also show that D.glabrior Ching&Z.Y.Liu is a distinct species;however,because it is a later homonym of D.glabrior Copel.,it should be renamed D.renchangiana.We conclude that a species previously known as D.nitidula,also an illegitimate homonym,should be recognized with a new name,D.sinonepalensis.We resolve the phylogenetic position of D.yoroii as sister to other sampled species of D.sect Diclisodon.Our phylogenetic analyses confirm the distinctiveness of D.gaoligongensis,D.renchangiana,and D.sinonepalensis.A key to species of D.sect Diclisodon in China is provided.

摘要The taxonomy of Lepisorus (J. Sm.) Ching sect. Lepisorus in China was revised based on herbarium specimen examinations, field observations, and microscopic study of rhizome scales, soral paraphyses, leaf epidermis, and spores. As a result, nine species were recognized: Lepisorus macrosphaerus (Baker) Ching, Lepisorus asterolepis (Baker) Ching, Lepisorus marginatus Ching, Lepisorus kuchenensis (Y.C. Wu) Ching, Lepisorus megasorus (C. Chr.) Ching, Lepisorus kawakamii (Hayata) Tagawa, Lepisorus subsessilis Ching & Y.X. Lin, Lepisorus affinis Ching, and Lepisorus nudus (Hook.) Ching. Lepisorus kawakamii (Hayata) Tagawa was reinstated; Lepisorus gyirongensis Ching & S.K. Wu and Lepisorus longus Ching were reduced to synonyms ofL. nudus and L. affinis, respectively. The subdivision ofLepisorus macrosphaerus was not accepted. Rhizome scales and paraphyses are the most useful characters for species delimitation as well as for infrageneric classification. Characteristics of the leaf epidermis and spore ornamentation are usually stable and thus of great significance in understanding the relationships among groups within the genus.

摘要Vicia amirensis has pollen grain with swollen mesocipium, terete style, abaxially sprouting stylar hairs and globes stigma, differing from other five species,V. amoena, V. japonica, V. pseudo-orbus, V. ramuliflora, V. unijuga andV. venosa, in sect.Vicilla of Kupicha’s System. This result further support taxonomic treatmentV. amurensis proposed by Endo and Ohash. The chromosome numbers of 64 populations and karyotypes of 15 populations for sect.Vicilla and sect.Amurense were observed.V. amurensis andV. psendo-orbus have similar karyotype features such as the same karyotype symmetry, comparable chromosome size and the same type, of Sat-chromosomes, and thereforeV. amurensis in seet.Amurense is assumed to be closely related toV. japonica in sect.Vicilla. The primary study of nuclear DNA amount was carried out on nine populations of six taxa in sect.Vicilla in China. It is primarily discussed that evolutionary trend of karyotype, nuclear DNA amount in sect.Vicilla and geographic distribution of different ploidy cytotypes.

摘要Species of Prunus L. sect. Persica are not only important fruit trees, but also popular ornamental and medicinal plants. Correct identification of seedlings, barks, or fruit kernels is sometimes required, but no reliable morphological characters are available. Nowadays, the technique of DNA barcoding has the potential to meet such requirements. In this study, we evaluated the suitability of 11 DNA loci (atpB-rbcL, trnH-psbA, trnL-F, trnS-G, atpF-H, rbcL, matK, rpoB, rpoC1, nadl, and internal transcribed spacer [ITS]) as candidate DNA barcodes for peaches, using samples from 38 populations, covering all the species in sect. Persica. On the whole, the primers worked well in this group and sequencing difficulties were met only in the case of ITS locus. Five loci (rbcL, matK, rpoB, rpoC, and nadl ) have very low variation rates, whereas atpB-rbcL, atpF-H, trnH-psbA, trnL-F and trnS-G show more variability. The most variable loci, atpB-rbcL and trnH-psbA, can distinguish three of the five species. Two two-locus combinations, atpB-rbcL+trnL-F and atpB-rbcL+atpF-H, can resolve all five species. We also find that identification powers of the loci are method-dependent. The NeighborNet method shows higher species identification power than maximum parsimony, neighbor joining, and unweighted pair group method with arithmetic mean methods. 摘要[Objective] To utilize the germplasm resources,new systematic evidence for the classification of sect.Paracamellia,genus Camellia is found in this article.[Method] Fruit anatomy of 10 species representing sect.Paracamellia was investigated.And the main component of sect.Paracamellia in the genus Camellia was studied by MVSP software.[Result] The exocarp was thin;mesocarp was broad,having a large number of stone cells;endocarp was lignified,and separated easily from seed.The principle components analysis suggested that the distance between species was far,showing far relation;the current study did not support the formation of Camellia grijsii(C.grijsii)and Camellia yuhsienensis(C.yuhsienensis),Camellia shensiensis(C.shensiensis)should not be recognized as a variety of C.yuhsienensis.In addition,it also proved Ming's combining of Camellia confusa(C.confusa)and Camellia kissi(C.kissi)was unnatural.[Conclusion] The study provided theoretical basis for the development and application of sect.Paracamellia in the genus Camellia.
摘要Allium paniculatum L. is commonly recorded from the Euro-Mediterranean and Irano-Turanian regions. Evidence from literature and herbarium collections revealed that many different taxa of A. sect. Codonoprasum Rchb., all characterized by big size, diffuse and densely flowered umbrella, very long spathe valves, long pedicels, and cylindrical-campanulate perigon, have been wrongly attributed to this species thus affecting records on its geographic distribution and morphological characterization. In order to define the true identity of A. paniculatum, we analyzed specimens coming from the type locality (Don River), and provided details on morphology, ecology, karyology, leaf anatomy, seed morphology and seed coat micro-sculpturing. Taxonomic and phylogenetic relationships with related species of sect. Codonoprasum and with other taxa of different sections were investigated by means of morphological characters and molecular data from the internal transcribed spacers (ITS) nrDNA and the trnH-psbA cpDNA region. Maximum parsimony and Bayesian inference analyses of molecular data recovered two main clades in A. sect. Codonoprasum and clearly separated A. paniculatum from related taxa. The taxonomic implications of these patterns of relationships are discussed. To our knowledge, this is the first study documenting in-depth phylogenetic relationships within A. sect. Codonoprasum.
摘要The circumscriptions of sections Auganthus Pax ex Balf. f. and Ranunculoides Chen et C. M. Hu in the genus Primula L. have been controversial, due to the different treatments of P. filchnerae Knuth. We conducted a phylogenetic analysis using sequences from the ITS region of nuclear ribosomal DNA. All five species of these two sections and some representatives of other related sections were sampled. The ITS trees show that P. filchnerae could be convincingly placed in sect. Auganthus , together with P. sinensis Sabine ex Lindl. and P. rupestris Balf. f. et Farrer, whereas sect. Ranunculoides contains two species: P. cicutariifolia Pax and P. merrilliana Schltr. These two sections are distantly related and their association with other sections needs further studies. This study also demonstrated that ITS sequences would be a suitable marker for the reconstruction of Primula phylogeny.
摘要To the Editor:Abeleda et al.[1]recently argued in a perspective article that the Philippines should do better in order to achieve its goal of reducing schistosomiasis incidence to zero in humans,animals,and snails by 2025[2,3].The authors appropriately ascribed the need to ramp up surveillance,WASH(water,sanitation,and hygiene),and veterinary efforts.In this letter,I would like to add to the discussion that the key to achieving schistosomiasis elimination may be strengthening the veterinary public health sector and framing mitigation efforts within the One Health lens.Schistosoma(S.)japonicum infection is a zoonotic disease and it affects more than 40 species of animals,including livestock animals like cattle,pigs,and water buffaloes,and pets like dogs[4].In the Philippines,the prevalence of infection in animal reservoirs remains largely unknown in most endemic areas due to the lack of concerted epidemiological efforts unlike what is being done in human hosts.In areas where studies have been done,infection rates are from less than 10%to 97%in water buffaloes tested[5-7].Indeed,as Abeleda et al.[1]argued,there is a need to do better on this front.
摘要A new species of Nageia,Nageia maomingensis sp.nov.,is described from the Late Eocene of Maoming Basin,Guangdong Province,South China.According to its cuticular characteristics,the present fossil species is assigned to N.sect.Dammaroideae,showing the most resemblance to the extant species N.motleyi(Parl.)de Laub.At present,this section is mainly distributed in the Pacific islands region from South Asia to New Guinea.The discovery of N.maomingensis demonstrates that plants of this section inhabited South China at least by the Eocene.The distribution and living habitat of extant N.sect.Dammaroideae imply that South China was warmer during the Late Eocene than today,and may represent one of the centers for early diversification of Nageia and its section Dammaroideae during the Eocene.In addition,we postulate that plants of sect.Oammaroideae migrated southward in response to climate cooling after the Eocene.

摘要Pedicularis sect. Cyathophora is a distinctive group endemic to the eastern Himalaya-Hengduan Mountains region. It was regarded as a 'grex' or section and included all four general corolla types of Pedicularis. A unique feature of it is that the leaf and bract bases are fused together to form a cup-like structure around the stem at each node. Pollen morphology of seven species in sect. Cyathophora was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and light microscopy (LM). Two different pollen apertures could be distinguished (i.e. trisyncolpate and bisyncolpate) using LM, while examination with SEM made it possible to recognize three types of exine ornamentation (i.e. microscabrate, microfoveolate and microreticulate). The microfoveolate exine ornamentation was found in trisyncolpate pollen grains for the first time. Possible relationships between pollen data and the corolla types were discussed. Comparisons of floral and phyllotaxy characters of the genus Pedicularis, together with the pollen characters of sect. Cyathophora, could help us to better understand the evolutionary trends in Pedicularis.
