Objective:This study investigates the associations between occupational environmental exposure, occupational depression(OD),musculoskeletal disorders(MSD),and workplace violence(WPV)in the general Korean working population. Methods:Utilizing nationally representative samples from the 6th(2020)and 7th(2023)Korean Working Conditions Survey(KWCs),a total of 55,649 eligible workers(weighted)aged 15 years or older were included in the study.Occupational environmental exposures included vibration, noise, temperature extremes, and smoke/fumes/dust;MSD included back pain and upper and lower limb disorders;WPV included physical, sexual, and emotional violence;and OD was assessed using the WHO-5 Well-Being Index.Multivariable-adjusted regression and interaction analyses were performed. Results:Occupational environmental exposures were linked to 11%-70%higher odds of MSD.Noise(odds ratio(OR)=1.15),high temperature(OR=1.13),low temperature(OR=1.16),smoke/fumes/dust(OR=1.13),and vibration(OR=1.03)were linked to elevated odds of OD.Except for vibration, all exposures were positively associated with WPV(OR:noise,1.35;high temperature,1.33;low temperature,1.29;smoke/fumes/dust,1.31).Significant interaction effects were observed between exposures, gender, and employee type for MSD(P<0.05),with males and non-regular workers demonstrating greater susceptibility.Workers with OD or WPV exposed to vibration and/or high temperature were at greater risk for MSD.Conclusions:Occupational exposures increase the odds of MSD,and OD and WPV may further amplify these risks. These findings underscore the need for integrated workplace health strategies that address mental health conditions and WPV to improve health outcomes and support workers'well-being. 展开更多

Background:Workplace safety faces mounting strain from intersecting pressures, while serious harm persists in high-risk sectors. These shifts can weaken accountability and amplify new risk pathways, creating an urgent need for cross-sector,prevention-focused actions that are equitable and robust amid uncertainty. Objective:This review aimed to identify and prioritise urgent,cross-sector actions to strengthen sustainable workplace safety amid climate change, psychosocial harm, technological transformation, and fragmented or nonstandard employment. Methods:An evidence-informed scoping review synthesised peer-reviewed and grey literature and incorporated stakeholder input.Transparent inclusion criteria and pragmatic evidence weighting were used to distinguish empirical evidence from standards and guidance.Priorities were set using explicit criteria, including harm severity, exposure prevalence,urgency,feasibility,time-to-impact,equity impacts, stakeholder consensus, and robustness under uncertainty. Results:Evidence indicated persistent serious harm in high-risk sectors, growing psychosocial injury burdens, intensifying climate-related exposures, and emerging risks linked to digitalisation,human-robot interaction, and non-standard work(including gig/platform labour),where incentive structures can amplify unsafe behaviour, particularly under extreme heat.Ten priorities were identified:embed Occupational Health and Safety in governance and incentives;strengthen worker voice, equity and inclusion;design out hazards;prevent psychosocial harm aligned with International standard organization 45003;build data, learning and a just culture;improve climate-and environment-ready safety;ensure ethical digitalisation/automation with privacy and bias safeguards;protect Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and supply chains(including"International standard organization 45001-lite"pathways);strengthen competency and lifelong learning;and improve management of transitions and fatigue. Conclusion:Sustainable safety requires a shift from lagging-indicator management to governance-and designled prevention, climate adaptation, psychosocial risk control, ethical technology governance, and equity-centred collaboration to reduce serious harm. 展开更多

This study explores how authentic leadership reduces workplace deviance behavior in the era of artificial intelligence(AI)through a chain mediation mechanism involving positive psychological capital and organizational identification. The sample comprised 619 business professionals who regularly used AI tools in their work(52%male;M=34 years,20.7%from the service education). The results revealed a significant workplace deviance behavior to be lower with authentic leadership.Organizational identification mediated the relationship between authentic leadership and workplace deviance behavior for lower workplace deviance.Although positive psychological capital alone did not mediate this relationship,it exerted an indirect effect on workplace deviance behavior by enhancing employees’organizational identification. These findings suggest that,in the context of AI,authentic leadership can effectively mitigate workplace deviant behaviors by strengthening employees’psychological resources and fostering stronger identification with the organization. Therefore, human resource departments should actively identify and support managers who demonstrate authentic leadership qualities. 展开更多

Objectives:Recently, how family-related factors influence employees’mental health has garnered increasing attention from researchers and practitioners.Drawing on the cognitive appraisal theory of stress, this study aims to examine how and when family financial stress affects the employees’mental health and investigate the mediating role of performance stress and the moderating role of workplace competition. Methods:A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 23,520 Chinese employees by using a voluntary and anonymous structured questionnaire, which included family financial stress, performance stress, symptom checklist 90(SCL-90)scale,and workplace competition. The data were analyzed using SPSS 26.0 software and macro PROCESS.Results:The analysis of the mediating effect showed that performance stress mediated the relationship between family financial stress and psychological depression(b=0.064,SE=0.002,p<0.0001)and physical somatization(b=0.042,SE=0.002,p<0.0001),indicating spillover effects of stress from home to workplace. The moderating mediation analysis revealed that the crossover effects were amplified by workplace competition. For psychological depression, index of moderated mediation was:b=0.012,SE=0.001,p<0.001;For physical somatization, index of moderated mediation was:b=0.008,SE=0.001,p<0.001.Conclusion:Performance stress acts as a mediator in the link between family financial stress and mental health.Furthermore, the mediating effects was amplified by workplace competition. These findings suggest that workplace competition may serve to exacerbate the negative spillover effects from home to work through the mechanism of workrelated stress.Organizations should consider implementing supportive measures to mitigate family financial stress, such as providing financial counseling and fostering a collaborative work environment,to reduce the adverse effects of family financial stress on employees’mental health. 展开更多

Background:In the field of organizational behavior, various aspects that have an impact on employee well-being gradually become a focus of attention.Among them, performance pressure, which is a component of workplace stressors that has a great influence on employees’job performance as well as well-being,has been little studied. Therefore, this paper constructs a research model, which uses workplace anxiety as a mediating variable and vocational delay of gratification as a moderating variable,to explore the impact of performance pressure on employee well-being.Methods:Reliable data were collected by questionnaire method and data analysis was conducted with the help of SPSS 26.0.In this paper, the data statistics are carried out by correlation analysis, mediation effect analysis, and moderating effect analysis, and the regression analysis is further studied. Results:The finding shows that performance pressure impacts employee well-being negatively, and workplace anxiety has a significant negative impact on employee well-being.When the workplace anxiety variable is added, the negative impact of performance pressure on employee well-being is still significant. Therefore,it can be verified that workplace anxiety plays an intermediary role in the influencing mechanism of performance pressure on employee well-being.While high vocational delay satisfaction weakens the influence of performance pressure on employee well-being.It’s interesting that under the adjustment of low delayed gratification,low-performance pressure will lead to higher employee well-being,and the organization’s conscious reduction of performance pressure is conducive to improving employeewell-being,and under the adjustment of high delayed gratification,low-performance pressure leads to higher employee well-being,and high-performance pressure leads to lower employee well-being,which shows the weakening effect of high delayed gratification, that means vocational delay gratification plays a negative regulating role in the influencing mechanism of performance pressure and employee well-being.Conclusion:Under the mediating role of workplace anxiety, performance pressure has a significant negative impact on employee well-being,and in this influence mechanism, vocational delay gratification plays a significant negative moderating role. 展开更多

This study examined the relationships among workplace spirituality, mindfulness, mental well-being,and organizational commitment in professional female dancers.A total of 424 dancers from the United States participated in the survey.Structural equation modeling indicated that workplace spirituality was positively associated with both mental well-being and organizational commitment, whereas mindfulness was significantly related only to organizational commitment.Mental well-being was a significant predictor of organizational commitment and mediated the relationship between workplace spirituality and organizational commitment, but not between mindfulness and commitment. These results suggest that workplace spirituality functions as a psychological resource that enhances emotional health and strengthens organizational engagement.Thesefindings are consistent with self-determination theory, highlighting the role of value congruence and intrinsic purpose in sustaining motivation in high-performance contexts. Moreover, the studyfindings underscore the importance of fostering spiritually supportive work environments to promote psychological well-being and long-term organizational commitment. 展开更多

Background:Though the COVID-19 pandemic recedes, and our society gradually returns to normal,Chinese people’s work and lifestyles are still influenced by the“pandemic aftermath”.In the post-pandemic era, employees may feel uncertainty at work due to the changed organizational operations and management and perceive the external environment to be more dynamic. Both these perceptions may increase employees’negative emotions and contribute to conflicts between work and life.Drawing from the ego depletion theory, this study aimed to examine the impact of job insecurity during the post-pandemic era on employees’work-life conflicts, and the mediating effect of workplace anxiety in this relationship.Besides, this study also considered the uncertainty of the external macro environment as a boundary condition on the direct and indirect relationship between job insecurity and work-life conflicts. Methods:A two-wave questionnaire survey was conducted from October to December 2023 to collect data.MBA students and graduates from business school with full-time jobs are invited to report their perception of job insecurity, work anxiety, perceived environment uncertainty, and work-life conflict. This resulted in 253 valid responses.Data analysis was performed using the SPSS,Amos, and PROCESS.Results:The results showed that:(1)Employees’job insecurity would directly intensify the work-life conflict(B=0.275,p<0.001,95%CI[0.182,0.367]).(2)Employees’workplace anxiety mediates the relationship between job insecurity and work-life conflict(B=0.083,p<0.001,95%CI[0.047,0.130]).(3)The mediating effect of workplace anxiety between job insecurity and work-life conflict exists when perceived environmental uncertainty is high(B=0.049,95%CI[0.011,0.114]),while vanishes when perceived environmental uncertainty is low(B=0.024,95%CI[−0.005,0.068]).Conclusion:Job insecurity combined with perceived environmental uncertainty in the postpandemic era fuels employees’workplace anxiety and work-life conflicts.Post-pandemic trauma lingers, necessitating urgent attention and response. 展开更多

Background Workplace violence(WPV)is an emerging problem for health workers(HWs)and a global concern in health systems.Scientific literatures infer that WPV against HWs is often attributed to workplace injuries and absenteeism, leading to a series of adverse consequences. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the prevalence of workplace injuries and absenteeism due to WPV among Bangladeshi HWs and its association with factors related to health facilities, work environments, and rotating shift work. Methods This study used participants who had experienced WPV,including medical doctors, nurses,or any form of medical staff.A total of 468 victim HWs were added in the analytical exploration.Participants were generated from our previous cross-sectional study of 1081 Bangladeshi HWs.A logistic regression model was used to find the association between workplace injuries and absenteeism due to WPV among HWs and associated factors. Results The prevalence of workplace injuries and absenteeism due to WPV among HWs were 14.10%(95%CI 11.23-7.57)and 22.44%(95%CI 18.87-26.45),respectively.Injury incidence was higher among males(17.67%)and young HWs(20.83%).Workplace absenteeism was more common among male HWs(25%)and those working in public hospitals(23.46%).The magnitude of injuries and absenteeism varied significantly by hospital departments.Workplace injury was significantly higher among HWs who worked in the emergency(AOR=21.53,95%CI 2.55-181.71),intensive care(AOR=22.94,95%CI 2.24-234.88),surgery(AOR=17.22,95%CI 1.96-151.39),and gynecology&obstetrics departments(AOR=22.42,95%CI 2.25-223.07)compared with other departments. The burden of work-related absenteeism was significantly associated with HWs who worked in the emergency(AOR=4.44,95%CI 1.56-12.61),surgery(AOR=4.11,95%CI 1.42-11.90),and gynecology and obstetrics departments(AOR=5.08,95%CI 1.47-17.50).Conclusions This study observed a high prevalence of workplace injuries and absenteeism among HWs due to WPV across hospital departments, including emergency, surgery, intensive care and gynecology&obstetrics units.Policymakers should incorporate suitable strategies into Bangladesh’s national health policy to combat violence in healthcare settings. 展开更多

Studies have found that employees who felt isolated might also show low performance in their organizations. However, there is very little empirical research about the relationship between perceived isolation and job performance, and most of the studies were conducted on salespeople working in the virtual offices. In this study, it is aimed to investigate the relationship between workplace isolation and job performance in terms of productivity and emotional outcomes of carpet weaver women. In order to do this, job performance of a sample of 238 employees who were exposed to a radical workplace change was analyzed. The means of the performance variables before and after five years of the workplace change were statistically compared via paired sample t-tests and the results indicated significant differences between pre and post means of the performance variables. A qualitative research was also carried out through a number of in-depth interviews with the carpet weavers to enrich the breadth and depth of the findings. Findings of the qualitative study replicated the results of the quantitative study that monotonous and unsocial working conditions lowered the job performance of the employees. 展开更多

Objectives:This study aimed to explore the reporting of workplace violence against nurses and the reasons why they did not reported. Methods:A self-designed questionnaire regarding workplace violence and reporting was used to conduct a cross-sectional survey on nurses who submitted a manuscript to a Chinese nursing journal from 2016 to 2017.A total of 324 nurses agreed to participate in this study and 266 participants from 165 hospitals in 72 cities returned questionnaires. Results:A total of 172 nurses(64.7%)experienced violent incidents during the past year.Of these incidents,45.5%were reported;and the reporting rate of physical assaults(69.0%)was higher than those of verbal abuse(36.9%),threatening behavior(51.7%),and sexual harassment(60.0%).Formal reporting accounted for 25.4%(15.4%in written form and 10.0%through a computer-assisted reporting system).Almost half of the nurses(49.6%)stated that the hospital had no reporting system or they were uncertain about the reporting system. For reasons of not reporting,51.9%of the nurses were unware of how and what types of violence to report, and 50.6%of the nurses believed that the hospital paid greater attention to patients rather than staff. Conclusions:A clear definition of workplace violence and reporting procedures, establishment of a facile system for reporting, and supervisory support following a reporting are urgently required. 展开更多
