In China, the northernmost distribution area of the invasive species Spartina alterniflora is found in the city of Tangshan,Hebei Province. To understand its expansion mechanisms and ecological impacts in Tangshan, this study investigated the expansion dynamics of S.alterniflora and its impacts on the carbon(C)and nitrogen(N)contents of plants and soil based on multi-source remote sensing data,a random forest classification model, and the Google Earth Engine platform data combined with field investigations. The results show that S.alterniflora in Tangshan exhibited a trend of rapid expansion from 2010 to 2023 at a rate of 7.85 hm2/a.Furthermore,the rate of expansion in Tangshan was notably faster when compared with those reported in other regions in China.Rapid expansion was primarily influenced by the accelerated sedimentation occurring on the tidal flats against the backdrop of large-scale reclamation.Field data revealed positive correlations between the colonization age of S.alterniflora and stem width as well as the total organic carbon(TOC)and total nitrogen(TN)contents in soil;conversely, colonization age demonstrated an inverse relationship with the soil grain size.Notably, compared with S.alterniflora in mid-latitude regions,S.alterniflora in Tangshan exhibited increased stem and leaf TN content,as well as elevated soil TOC and TN levels;however, the finding revealed lower aboveground biomass and total carbon content within plants in Tangshan than has been reported in other regions. The findings from Tangshan are similar to those reported for low-latitude areas. This study offers valuable insights into coastal wetland management under future scenarios with the northward expansion of S.alterniflora. 展开更多

Presence of microplastics in soil environment has become an urgent issue for soil ecosystem health and soil functional maintenance.Identifying the occurrence and spatial variability of microplastics in soil is critical to reduce soil microplastics pollution at watershed scale. This study investigated the abundance, spatial variability, and related influencing factors of soil microplastics based on field investigation and lab work in a typical agricultural watershed in southwest China. Results shown that:(1)The average abundance of soil microplastics was 1087.5 n/kg,and the occurrence and abundance of soil microplastics was significantly affected by land use type.Higher microplastics abundance was usually found in facility agricultural land with the highest abundance of 1575 n/kg.Limited or no microplastics were found in forestland and garden soils, with forestland recording the lowest abundance at 580 n/kg.(2)Microplastics smaller than 1 mm predominated in agricultural soil, and main types of soil microplastics were fragments and films, and the most common observed colors were white, black, and transparent. The spatial variability of soil microplastics in abundance, compositions, shapes, sizes, and colors was determined by the land use pattern at watershed scale.(3)Anthropogenic activities and soil texture were important factors affecting the occurrence and abundance of soil microplastics. The presence of microplastics in soil tends to increase as the distance from villages and roads decreases, and this abundance is positively associated with silty particles content and negatively associated with sandy particles. Results of this study provide spatial distribution characteristics of soil microplastics, providing scientific guidance for sustaining soil health in agricultural watershed. 展开更多

As one of typical areas in the world, northern Chinese Loess Plateau experiences serious wind-water erosion, which leads to widespread land degradation.During the past decades,an ecological engineering was implemented to reduce soil erosion and improve soil protection in this area. Thus,it is necessary to recognize the basic characteristics of soil protection for sustainable prevention and wind-water erosion control in the later stage. In this study, national wind erosion survey model and revised universal soil loss equation were used to analyze the spatiotemporal evolution and driving forces of soil protection in the wind-water erosion area of Chinese Loess Plateau during 2000–2020.Results revealed that:(1)during 2000–2020,total amount of soil protection reached up to 15.47×108 t,which was realized mainly through water and soil conservation, accounting for 63.20%of the total;(2)soil protection was improved, with increases in both soil protection amount and soil retention rate. The amounts of wind erosion reduction showed a decrease trend, whereas the retention rate of wind erosion reduction showed an increase trend. Both water erosion reduction amount and retention rate showed increasing trends;and(3)the combined effects of climate change and human activities were responsible for the improvement of soil protection in the wind-water erosion area of Chinese Loess Plateau. The findings revealed the spatiotemporal patterns and driving forces of soil protection, and proposed strategies for future soil protection planning in Chinese Loess Plateau, which might provide valuable references for soil erosion control in other wind-water erosion areas of the world. 展开更多

[Objectives]The paper was to investigate the garden greenbelt in 30 sample plots such as parks, roads, communities, etc.in Shijiazhuang City.[Methods]The species, abundance and frequency of weeds in the greenbelt of public gardens were recorded through point-line-surface investigation, and typical plants were sampled.[Results]There were 56 species of alien invasive plants in garden greenbelts of Shijiazhuang City, belonging to 44 genera and 20 families. In terms of life form, herbaceous plants were absolutely dominant, accounting for 92.8%of the total. The most alien invasive plants were native to America, accounting for 66.1%of the total. In terms of introduction path, the plants introduced artificially and unintentionally accounted for almost half. The species and quantity of alien invasive plants were related to the size of greenbelt area, the length of the build time of the surveyed plot, the composition structure of greenbelt and the level of green management and protection. There was larger distribution of alien invasive plants in the sample plots with large greenbelt area, long build time,herbaceous-dominated greenbelt and low level of green management and protection.Among the 56 alien invasive plants,3 plants were toxic. From the perspective of invasiveness, the alien invasive plants in the garden greenbelt of Shijiazhuang City could be divided into 5 levels:invasive alien species of malignant consequences, invasive alien species of severe consequences, invasive alien species of partial consequences, invasive alien species of average consequences, and invasive alien species to be observed.[Conclusions]This study will provide a reference for the prevention and control of alien plant invasion, and lay a foundation for the prevention and control of existing invasive plants. 展开更多
